What really happened with the Hunter Biden story suppression by Twitter will be published on Twitter at 5pm ET! - CONSPIRACY THEORY YOU RACIST!!! (Let the shit show begin...)

Lovely. The opposition is already selectively highlighting parts of the story ("it was revenge porn!!") and ignoring the damning parts, then dismissing it as a nothingburger. Manufactured narrative in real time.
The difference is, this time, the manufactured narrative has competition with… well, reality.

We’ll see how well it sticks, without the ability to ban anyone who dares deviate from the party line.

"Journalists are scum" - Null.

The thing I find creepy is how these talking points seem to come out of nowhere and then spread like wildfire. I was browsing Reddit on this Taibbi thing, just to hurt my own feelings, and the "revenge porn" take was all over the place, it was one of the primary pivots toward nothingburger. The guy in this thread is adopting the talking points in real time, very far out, are we all just bots?

A fair number of people have outsourced their thinking to social media. If their friends repeat a story, they assume it is true -- or, more precisely, they assume that it is what they are expected to say if they want to be accepted by their friends. I've seen multiple people I knew casually in real life become indistinguishable from bots in social media because most of their posts were retweets or restatements of bot posts.

Former Twitter exec, Vijaya Gadde, who was appointed adviser to President Biden’s DHS in 2021, played a key role in suppressing Hunter Biden story a year earlier

Twitter owner Elon Musk has revealed that under the previous management regime, former Twitter Legal, Policy and Trust & Safety Lead, Vijaya Gadde, played a key role in censoring the infamous Hunter Biden laptop story in October 2020.

Not only did Gadde play a pivotal role in censoring a story alleging that Joe Biden and his son Hunter engaged in a corruption scandal just weeks before the election that saw Joe Biden ascend to the presidency, but after Biden became President, his administration appointed her to an advisory role on a committee that helped shape the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS’s) “misinformation and disinformation” work that same year in December 2021.

The DHS’s misinformation and disinformation work has faced growing scrutiny and public backlash throughout 2022. Most notably, its “Disinformation Governance Board,” which was introduced in April 2022, was paused one month later, and officially shut down in August 2022 after raising First Amendment concerns and being threatened with legal action.

The Hunter Biden laptop story was one of the top stories of the 2020 election cycle and was heavily suppressed by Twitter weeks before the presidential election. Twitter blocked links to the story, locked accounts that attempted to share the article, and even censored memes and tweets that criticized the censorship.

This week, Musk shared documents about Twitter’s censorship of the story with journalist Matt Taibi who posted highlights on Twitter.

Taibi tweeted that the decision to censor the story was “made at the highest levels of the company but without the knowledge of [then-]CEO Jack Dorsey.” Instead, Gadde played “a key role” in the censorship. Taibi shared a document showing Gadde discussing the warning label that would be applied to the story when Twitter censored it.

On the day that Twitter censored the story, Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna emailed Gadde to let her know that the decision was “generating huge backlash” on Capitol Hill and that the censorship “seems a violation of the 1st Amendment principles.” He also suggested that by censoring the story, Twitter had made it “become a bigger deal than it would have been.”

Dorsey also forwarded Gadde a copy of an article by Taibi that blasted Twitter for censoring the story.

Taibi noted that employees inside Twitter were “struggling to understand the policy basis” for censoring the story and that the justification executives used to censor the story (claiming that it violated Twitter’s “hacked materials” policy) was just an “excuse.”

In one internal communication, Twitter’s former Vice President of Global Communications, Brandon Borrman, asked: “Can we truthfully claim that this is part of the policy?”

One former Twitter employee told Taibi that “everyone knew this was fucked” after Twitter started censoring the story.

In addition to playing a key role in the censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story, Gadde also reportedly played a key role in banning former President Donald Trump from Twitter.

Elon Musk teases MORE explosive Twitter censorship revelations today, as it's revealed just one Dem stood up to 'gutless' execs for blocking Hunter Biden laptop story

  • Musk vowed to release second installment of his 'Twitter Files' on Saturday
  • Journalist Matt Taibbi Friday began publishing the internal Twitter documents
  • They showed the shocking political influence on content moderation at the site
  • Taibbi conducted his probe with the cooperation of new Twitter chief Elon Musk
  • Emails showed staffers censoring tweets at the behest of the Joe Biden's team
  • His campaign made requests for tweets to be taken down - and Twitter complied

So my takeaway from this is that (pre-Musk) Twitter were literally god damn jannies and they did it for free.

Hell not even for free. They paid the dems for the prestige of being their fucking mods. :story:
Then the question becomes if the paycheck makes things better or worse.
The difference is, this time, the manufactured narrative has competition with… well, reality.

We’ll see how well it sticks, without the ability to ban anyone who dares deviate from the party line.
The only question becomes if Democrats go knives out to save their own skin.

I was very pleasantly surprised/shocked that this actually had some teeth to it and wasn't just a "lmao made you look thanks for the stress testing" by Elon.

Eh they just recontracted their thinking to a new supplier. Before social media everyone's adamant political beliefs were whatever they'd just read in the newspaper that morning.

Quoting matt

Did you bother to read the tweet thread? It's actually kinda creepy how quickly you and other people on Twitter all adopted the same exact talking points near instantly

Still didn't address the dem/republican contact imbalance btw

We already knew the bullshit extraordinary measures Twitter took to suppress the story. They publicly disclosed them at the time.

I want this to be something as much as most of us do, but it's really showing nothing new other than that the Biden team and other power players had priority access to Twitter employees and could report content and get quick reviews, but all Taibbi showed last night was that Twitter came up with the policy all on their own.

This whole thing kind of stinks. Taibbi doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would do this, but it almost comes across as an attempt to whitewash what really happened and clear Dorsey and government actors of any wrongdoing suspicion.

I'm just gonna leave this here lol

It is something - it's actual evidence that could be used to actually do something (make this kind of conduct illegal, force legislation that bans the government from censoring shit without going through courts, literally just doing SOMETHING) but don't expect the cuckold GOP to do jack shit, because they never do. Democrats sure as hell aren't going to do anything, because this benefits them. The most important thing to take away here why in the fuck do politicians even have tools to knock shit off of social media?

This is the same guy who harassed a random Asian at a bar who he thought was Andy Ngo and made him leave. He's not particularly attached to reality.

Dammit, you beat me to the Benson Tweet!

And for the record, Glenn Greenwald and Matt Taibbi are great journalists, because they're the only journalists who actually do journalism: speaking truth to power rather than sucking the troondick and swallowing everything that comes out of the establishment hook line and sinker.

The GOP isn't going to do anything that could vindicate "rigged election" claims, so expect nothing more than some "hearings" or whatever.

The ultimate problem is that tech is totally dominated by US companies (except TikTok, which anyway caters massively to the US audience). Naturally the government isn't going to sabotage this incredible tool of soft power. This news combined with the Brazil thing though, we could actually see more countries blocking US social media and setting up their own.
