What should be done to stop mass shootings?

I'll try to keep this as short as possible.

First of all we need to define mass shootings, are we talking about blacks having a turf war? Because that's the vast majority of statistical mass shootings a least that's my understanding. I have a hard time seeing how we are going to stop that, my best advice is to heavily enforce straw purchase laws, and stamp straw purchasing parties with manslaughter charges where appropriate.

The two "real" mass shootings I'm aware of can be categorized into two groups:

group A: White retaliation/fed posts, for this to go away we need simply to get rid of BLM and start charging blacks with hate crimes where appropriate, especially the blood pressure raising news pieces like random attacks on Whites/Asians ie "the knockout game". Without need for racial attacks there won't be any.

group B: the soft target narcissists. ie the "Nikolas Cruz's. "Adam Lanzas" These people are %100 fucked in the head, they are after fame and blood. Reinforcement of school resource officers like keeping two on duty with actual longarms and active shooter training is a good start. Optional firearms training/arming for teachers is something to consider. These people are after soft targets they are literally afraid of police officers who will shoot back. In addition we need to shame them as much as possible, memes are a good start, beyond that we need to erase their presence from media, they are after noteriaty after all.

Taking firearms away from law abiding sane people is wrong, to the argument: "the founding fathers could have never imagined an AR-15", I have a hard time believing they forsaw the internet, where one opinion can be viewed easily 1 million times over, yet we do not infringe on the first amendment nor should we. If this debate is truely about saving lives limiting vehicles speeds to 80mph by law, installing breathalizers in every car ever made in north america would save 10 fold the lives taking firearms away would, start there then talk to me about firearms.

Shoot everyone on the planet, and then yourself. Problem solved.

Well, uh, ackshually, unfortunately people do use this argument and arguments similar to it to argue for "hate speech" laws and so forth. Regardless, otherwise great post.

To be honest the most common denominator for mass shootings (and killings in general) is mental illness/"neuroatypicality". This is impossible to deny, and this applies even to many "ideologically" motivated mass killings and not just the aforementioned "soft target narcissists" who are just more obviously mentally ill as they have no "rational" ideological/political motive. It's usually the prerequisite to make someone with radical ideological positions and simple anger over the state of the world decide to take violent action.

You'll see twitter posts whining about this line of thinking "unfairly stigmatizing" the mentally ill/neuroatypical but it really does seem to be the common denominator even if 99.9% of mentally abnormal people are not mass killers. In fact, this is how most stereotypes are true—replace "most" or "all" with "disproportionate amounts". Most blacks are not criminals but blacks are overrepresented in crime, for example.

Let's enumerate here:

Port Arthur: Conspiracy theories notwithstanding, Martin Bryant is a turbo schizoid autist if not flat out savant (which could explain his insane accuracy without conspiracies). He also had sociopathic tendencies from a young age.

Thurston High School Shooting: Guy had obvious untreated schizophrenia and heard voices in his head.

Columbine: Eric Harris is generally agreed to have been a clinical psychopath. Klebold was a depressed loser who looked up to him. All evidence shows they were extremely edgy and without empathy.

Virginia Tech: Probably borderline splitting issues or bipolar disorder. Had anxiety and depression and the guy was introverted and insecure if I recall.

Aurora Shooting: James Holmes was probably a schizoid weirdo and a mental health professional also claimed he had borderline personality disorder.

Utøya Massacre: Breivik obviously has borderline personality disorder, which causes black & white thinking which can easily trigger selective empathy and hatred towards people one disagrees with as opposed to more severe things which are typically required to trigger it in normal people. Men with BPD are also likely to act on the disorder violently compared to women (note that female BPD symptoms are the stereotype). Furthermore, mainly with men, the line between "borderline" and "narcissist" is blurred, as the latter is basically a more extroverted borderline who obsesses over public self-image and narrative. He clearly got a massive ego boost over "hurting" the political tendency he hated so much and causing them immense suffering. He's also probably a very high-functioning autistic. A lot of the observations and views outlined in his manifesto had merit semantics notwithstanding, but it was his mental abnormalities that were the prerequisite to crossing over the threshold and becoming a mass killer.

Sandy Hook: Adam Lanzy was extremely autistic and introverted. Probably sociopathic. Potentially schizophrenic according to some reports. Strangely articulate and reasonably intelligent if that radio call-in about Travis the Chimp is any evidence. Before learning about that I didn't believe such; I was kinda surprised.

Charleston Church Shooting: Dylan Roof is a generic neo-nazi sperg. Autist. Sociopath. Not very articulate and very basic bitch going by his writings.

Stoneman Douglas Highschool Shooting: Nikolas Cruz has an entire slew of mental problems. Not much else to say about this sperg.

Something for consideration: without military conditioning, can we reasonably infer, by near definition, that most domestic premeditated mass killings of civilians that aren't caused by flat-out schizophrenic delusions are the result of sociopathy/psychopathy? Crimes of passion wouldn't usually count because they're done on a whim out of anger and extreme emotions.

Note that also being extremely introverted ("schizoid") is alone a prerequisite—if not also de-facto synonymous with "autistic"—because when you're totally in your own world and under-socialized you may invariably develop weird moral ideas and dehumanize people. I also wanna ask what the firm difference between "autistic people having an empathetic disconnect" and "psychopaths being incapable of empathy" is in practice in a medical sense, considering that psychopath isn't even in the DSM. "Anti-Social Personality Disorder" basically just means criminal behavior—it's very imprecise.

I guess I would argue preventing mentally abnormal people from getting access to guns would be the solution, but that would still be unfair to the vast majority despite also being "logical". Japanese internment camp logic. Maybe only at least if they show continuous violent tendencies. The arguments that we should definitely prioritize and pool resources into mental health are very valid. Personally, regarding my own issues, I've recently discovered that Zinc and Iodine, if not also Magnesium, Vitamin D, and NAC, have mostly nullified the worst aspects ADHD/OCD/Anxiety/BPD. It seems a lot of mental issues are caused by nutrient deficiencies, which is strangely overlooked. Perhaps because they make more money with SSRIs and such.

Replace them all with hammer guns.

im pretty sure if we just made gun licenses work like drivers licenses there would be less issues. as in you gotta do gun training and safety and not have any problems that would make it bad for you to have a gun and there could be a whole course and a renewal period. and if that dont work fuck it just legalize all weaponry and invest in iron man armors.

We've built a society where fame is a hot commodity, the majority of kids want to be "influencers" now. But fame is hard to get, or you've got to be lucky. However there is a third way, just got a 4th of July parade with an AR15 and spray into the crowd and you're destined for the front page of Reddit. Sure they'll hate you, they'll fear you, but that's what so many of these retards like Elliott Rodger want.

I don't think it's responsible to give spergs that kill people a parade through the media.

It'd stop the mass shootings, but you'd have a new problem where everybody would have to negotiate every little thing in life while having a gun pointed at them and it'd be a mess...
Well hello Mr. Government man can I not pay taxes this time?

Easier access to mental health treatment and affordable medication that is provided by psychiatrists and doctors who genuinely care for their patients.
The number of people I see on the daily (myself included) could have a lot of their problems solved if they were simply given the care they needed. It's amazing how one's life can change if they had proper treatment.
Fuck you big pharma

Edit; It won't solve ALL of the mass shootings but it could reduce a good amount of it based on mental health. I think a lot of them are angry at society in general so it is a sociological issue but I have no idea how one could solve that. At least not me it's fucking 5am here my brain is fried.

The right to own guns is protected by the second ammendment. It doesn't say anything about the right to own bullets.

I have a bit of an odd idea: what about 2 years of mandatory military service for males when they turn 18?

It would cost an absolute fortune, but I think it would solve a lot of problems. Fat and retarded? The military thrives on retarded kids anyway, so maybe some of those retards would appreciate the order military life gives to them and stay in, plus you won't be fat by the end of it (assuming the program bothers getting people to combat weight through training and diet control).

So many of these shooters are either incels or lonely spergs. These people will learn discipline, they'll become part of a brotherhood, and they'll learn to become adults with responsibilities (or else). They'll get jacked and learn how to interact with people who aren't on the internet; maybe find a Dependapotomous of their own. I think a lot of kids these days are lacking a firm transition from adolescence to adulthood and this could be that if everyone was forced to take it seriously.

On the flip side, everyone in the country becomes a trained shooter. Guns no longer become "scary" to faggots from New York or California. For the most part, gun free zones go away (because I've never met a military guy who doesn't want to carry at all times anyway). The gangbangers no longer spray and pray and instead eliminate their targets with precision, reducing civilian casualties.

The US is probably going to need to do something like this eventually anyway, because our volunteer army is already dangerously understaffed and it's only going to get worse. May as well use it as an opportunity to inculcate values of responsibility, sacrifice and hard work, plus make your population a lot healthier.

Turn schools into Wild West kill zones. Unironically, machine guns, rifles, bazookas, bayonets. Handguns and shotguns.

From kindergarten to High school teachers, students, janitorial staff should own any weapons they want and be free to use them on school grounds.

Either loser loner kids die or they kill their bullies and become popular, and bullies either kill anyone that would go on school shootings or get killed.

This policy will result in a loads of dead bodies, but eventually it will even off and schools will become polite cordial places where people who don’t like each other can at least agree to keep their distance.

(Obvious shitpost if wasn’t obvious).

Simple answer is that there is no simple answer, no one straight answer..
mental health is an obvious part, BUT people have to accurately be diagnosed, seen regularly, be willing etc. one HUGE issue with this right now is that many places are not taking new clients for therapy or psychiatry or have months long wait lists. This is especially for children and youth who’s parents know they need therapy but can’t even get in.

Second- responsible gun ownership. This seems an obvious one but some under age have access to family guns as they want and while nothing is really wrong with teaching shooting at ranges or hunting, if a kid is planning something like the sandy hook kid and has compete access to weapons it makes it that much easier. But, that doesn’t apply to all mass shooters. I mean, at the very least things like guns safes and trigger locks might help prevent some accidental child deaths.

Third- sensible gun laws. There’s always a lot of push back when any left says gun laws even when something might not make much difference to right gun owners. But gun laws are tricky because what might have been a preventative for one mass shooting might have not for another.

Schools- are NOT always helping. Bullying and isolation has played a part in some masa shootings and many districts turn a blind eye to those who are bullies if they are sports players or claim hands are tied due to behavior plans for known behavior. Teachers hands are tied because they can’t do very much anymore.
