The "people" that freaked out only did so because the protagonist of Stellar Blade is a conventionally attractive woman. If the game had featured a hairy troon with stubble and stinkditch they would have praised it to high heaven.
No one complained about women poisoning someone and therefore technically being an assassin. They complained about them being the AC kind of brawler assassin in Brotherhood onwards where they fight men straight up. From what I recall this wasn't really the case in 2 yet. Women were part of the Assassins but they dealt in information and such, like the madam of the brothel who teaches Ezio how to pickpocket.
