I was on Reddit for a while before I nuked my account since there really is some interesting stuff on a platform like that, but the one thing I consistently noticed was the need for AGPs to comment about their perspective as a "trans woman" despite how irrelevant it was for the topic at hand.

Yeah, my dad was the same -- but this was nothing surprising, all men of his generation were like that. They'd grown up during World War II when nobody had enough food to eat. What food there was, was rationed. If you were a kid who lived in the inner city, you were evacuated -- sent off to live with strangers in the country. If you were lucky, the family you were sent to treated you well. If you were unlucky (as my mother was) they worked you like a dog on their farm, and fed their own children well while starving the evaccuees that were living with them.

Why do poor Asians do so well in the education, when compared with westerners? Because this kind of poverty is within a single generation's memory. In the 1970's, South Korea was as poor as the poorest African states. The shadow of the cultural revolution still falls all over Chinese people. These people know how close to starvation and malnutrition they really are -- so they work like fucking donkeys to do everything that they possibly can to ensure that they create as much of a defence as they possibly can between themselves and that poverty -- and that best defence is MONEY.

So you don't see them doing Gender Studies or Black Studies -- or any kind of social studies at all, generally. They sign up for the hard sciences. Accountancy. Engineering. The kind of degrees that white westerners are generally too fucking lazy to get their heads around. The stuff that takes hard work and application -- qualities that are pretty well lost to our white western children.

If you don't work hard at your studies, those Asian parents will beat their fucking kids. They aren't beating them out of anger, or hate -- they're beating them out of love. But here’s one via a friend.

We haven’t really talked in a while, but caught up this weekend. A while back she was diagnosed with endometriosis. Took it pretty hard. She sought out a support group.

This is a liberal, feminist, trans-ally (who fits every stereotype.) She was basically one of those straight cis women who wanted to be rainbow special so was starting into the non-binary stuff.

That has all ended. And I found out why.

She attended an endo support group meeting. There were 8 people there. Two of them were TIMs. She described one as being stealth but clockable, and fairly quiet.

The other was your trashy-dress wearing AGP with 3 days worth of stubble and hulking male physique. And he was not quiet. He shared his struggles with menstruation and endo and trying to conceive. She said it would have been laughable if it wasn’t so creepy. He really thought he was fooling everyone. (He claimed PCOS too.) He dominated the entire meeting, interrupted and spoke over people, and interjected with his LARPing when women were talking about their issues.

Anyway, after the meeting her and another woman there (they’ve become good friends since this) reached out to the facilitator of the group to express their discomfort.

The end result? They were told they aren’t welcome at future meetings, and that it’s an inclusive space.

She’s unfortunately convinced that this experience was an anomaly and not the norm. But she’s learning.
