Which movie sequels are better than the originals?

I genuinely liked that, and wished they continued telling stories in that universe.

Alas, it was not a Marvel property, so Disney buried it. Shame.
You'd think they would have done something with it to coincide with the opening of the Tron roller coaster state side. I'm glad I've been shorting Disney. Questionable decisions from all levels of that company.

I've always liked Nightmare on Elm street best. I thought it was put together pretty well and had that cool Dokken song. Also Laurence Fishburne.

Depends on which version of evil dead original you give me because Sam raimi edited out some of the practical effects in some of the later dvds and I really appreciate the charm of the lower budget in the first one.

My picks are:
The dark knight
National lampoons Christmas

I actually have to say there’s more original movies that I liked better than later renditions than sequels I liked more.

I like Final Destination 3 and 5 (although 5 was revealed at the end to be a prequel) more than the first movie. Final Destination 2 was kind of forgettable for me, and 4 was a mess for several reasons.

And although this isn't technically a sequel, since it's more of a "re-imagining", I liked the 2008 Prom Night movie more than the original 1980 one, even if it was a much worse film.

Don't Breathe 2. The first movie was good up until the stupid 'twist' reveal of blind old man has a weird dungeon with a kidnapped girl in that he has force impregnanted (with a turkey baster) because she killed his daughter or something? It was lame and pointlessly gross., which ruined all of the buildup for me and made me wonder why you had to root for old blind guy at the start.
Sequel seems to retcon all of that and instead make a much better story, with better action/violence sequences and a much more sympathetic stance for the cool blind old guy.

Probably an unpopular opinion but:

I like Ghostbuster 2 more than GB1. While I like the first GB, its held back by feeling like it serves more as an "origin story" and exposition fest on who these guys are and how all their stuff work, meaning the actual interesting plot--the Zuul stuff--is scrunched to the end of the movie. The second movie however assumes you've seen the first and thus gets more time to let the paranormal investigation breath.

Also my favorite Indiana Jones movie is The Last Crusade.

I wasn't that impressed at the theatrical cut of Fellowship of the Ring, but then Two Towers made me a believer. The extended cut of Fellowship improved it quite a bit, but the extended on TT helped too so I still liked it more. And of course ROTK goes into another level.

Call me crazy, but I liked John Wick 2 more than 1.

Empire Strikes Back, Wrath of Khan of course.

There's a lot of sequels and trilogies that stay almost or close as good through out like Indy 1-3 and Back to the Future. I think Lord of the Rings is the only one that truly improves, by a lot, with each one.

ETA and I forgot Spiderman II. Probably my favorite superhero movie of all time. Dark Knight also is way better than Batman Begins, I just never got into BB. And Goldfingers over Dr No and original Casino Royale. The more you think about this the more you can come up with.
