Why are people writing OPs in the Community Feature Submissions thread

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Personally, I think it's better to write a short to medium sized summary based on the complexity of the situation and link to a more detailed post in the thread. I use the thread to quickly sample everything that's been going on and read more into the stories that interest me so if a post is too long, I honestly only read the first couple sentences unless it hooks me or is related to something I already care about.

On the other hand, I don't think it's really enough of a problem to warrant a big discussion. Longer posts don't really impede my enjoyment of the thread but I think it'd be better for the people who make really good long posts to post those in the thread then link to their own post in happenings with a summary.

Check the OP in the community and happenings thread, null says something about the posting having to be shortm
He says a concise description must be included - this doesn't mean that a longer explanation cannot follow. And "concise" is up to interpretation anyway.
There is no "don't" about including more detail/khantext.
Come to think of it the directions say "Look at how other posts are written before posting". Maybe I'm the one doing it wrong?
I need to make longer, and more frequent, austingambles posts.
This is the thing, no two situations are ever going to be the same and sometimes a lengthy post really is warranted and is of interest to a lot of people. Having some standardized formatting ("only 3 sentences") makes everything boring like Twitter is.

I obviously do it a lot but my justification is that there are interesting stories that are worth a bit of additional khantext - I do check the ratings and if they're overwhelmingly negative then I would reconsider or edit stuff down (or even fully delete a post). But for the most part they seem to generate a decent amount of interest.
i like how you write an entire novel to even justify why you longpost

The Concise Oxford English Dictionary is 1,728 pages long: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concise_Oxford_English_Dictionary

Concise is highly subjective and in my opinion really depends on the subject being discussed - you can of course boil everything down to a one line summary if you really want to but at that point you may as well just post this and add a reels feature:

And if you're going to boil everything down to one sentence you're basically violating the ethics of the Kiwifarms Code of Conduct which states: "Kiwifarms, where no detail is too small"

dude your point of reference is a fucking dictionary lol. i don't know how much more "subjective" you can get as that.
My point of reference is more that if there is a complex situation involving many people and events it is difficult to boil it all down into one paragraph and also keep it interesting and appealing, so "concise" really depends on what your goal is and what the situation is in the first place.

Here's a good example: https://kiwifarms.st/threads/community-feature-submissions.114933/post-20549281

They could of course just write "Kanye is going nuts on Twitter again" but they included a few pertinent screenshots, made a note that Elon unfollowed him, that he admitted to beating women, that he deactivated his twitter account and then updated his clothing store to leave nothing but a t-shirt with a swastika on it.

I would vastly prefer the detailed update that they did vs just "Kanye is going nuts on Twitter again"

(even the post following that which was about some lolicon shit - I only read it because it included enough detail to entice me as to why it was interesting. If it was a one or two sentence post I wouldn't have gone and read about it at all)

A short paragraph of about 4 sentences is fine. Don't need an explanation of what the ramifications of the happening means.

And depending on what your happening is, that context paragraph absolutely matters. I remember having to explain how the fuck Emily Cassidy is implicated in murder because the thread itself didn't have a post to link to that accurately described the situation.

Masturbation. Shitting up threads and making them annoying to browse because "I enjoy it" is more important than posting something others would find useful.
I find "shitted" up threads useful and not annoying. Perhaps you're the one using the site incorrectly?
Just because a certain amount of people speak up to let others know that they're annoyed, doesn't mean there aren't a certain amount of others who silently enjoy the status quo.

That said, I do find it slightly annoying when I see a lot of repeat updates for singular threads like rekieta. But I just scroll past them because it takes literally one second, and I appreciate the fact that there are people who are so passionate about these crazy situations that they are willing and able to dedicate the effort needed to write these summaries that span days or weeks for an update.
I'm certainly not going to read every single page of
1) rekieta's thread
2) rekieta's criminal lawsuit thread
3) rekieta's civil lawsuit thread
4) rekieta's homosexual cuckold's thread
5) rekieta's orbiter's threads

Very true.

The thing with Rekeita and some other cows is that they may be in the middle of a "peak" cycle where there is actually tons of significant stuff happening every single day that is actually notable enough to warrant an update. But as you said it takes almost no effort to just scroll past them. Those updates are very justified in my opinion - even if people think they may be a bit redundant. It's really is not every day that an internet famous lawtuber descends into a fucking cocaine addiction and ends up getting busted and having CPS involved with his polycule.

I think Rekeita already peaked so I have seen relatively less updates about him/his orbiters since then.

I agree, and I vaguely recall Null actually telling some guy (it may have been @Balldo's Gate) to knock it off with all the Rekieta updates, or make them more concise, or something, when it was at its peak. This was when the Balldo News Network logo appeared at the top of every post.
