Why are people writing OPs in the Community Feature Submissions thread

I don't intend on changing the way I write and what I write because I enjoy it and I hope my style/sense of humor is something people enjoy, but if I can use spoiler tags a bit more and do my part to at least reach a compromise I will work toward doing that (I can't speak on behalf of the other people that post long updates)

Essay writing in community happenings is just masturbation. If you can't hook someone in the first sentence they're not going to read all the garbage you posted there any way. If it's a happening worth sharing it doesn't need to go into lots of details and back story. It's either funny as it is, or it isn't. If your cow is worth investigating further they will read the thread OP and if it isn't then why are you bringing attention to it? Probably because your ego is tied to being The kiwi farms thread maker. Too many posters have their identities tied up to kiwi farms threads and need to touch grass. We know you aren't posting in the happenings thread because the event is interesting but because you want more posts in the thread you made and want to be popular.

Masturbation is fun!

I don't agree with this. There are certain people who are already well known and who put out regular updates to the extent that a one line description is appropriate. There are other people who only do things sporadically - so when I write a lengthy post about DSP doing an interview it is long because DSP has only ever done like 2 or 3 interviews in his entire online career.

I think something also needs to be said about making the website a little accessible to outsiders or even old-timers who may not know some particular lolcows. Like the update for Jack Scalfani's son getting his wife pregnant: https://kiwifarms.st/threads/community-feature-submissions.114933/post-20611124

And as to ego and being "the kiwi farms thread maker" when I posted about Nathen (the Garfield Eats guy) I have rarely if ever posted in his thread and never even made the OP - the reason why I started making posts about memecoins a bit more is because I want to see more people writing about them and taking an interest in them (there are some highly technical/analytical users on here so hearing their insights is really interesting), and again, I didn't make that thread either.

Technically this update is the perfect length. But with at least a few more words explaining who Jack Scalfani is and why this is relevant (for instance just mentioning he strangled his other son) it can make his story a bit more appealing for those that aren't already familiar with him. It also doesn't lean into the fact that this means the Scalfani bloodline (The Wendigo) will live on - if that had been mentioned it makes it a bit more appealing since it isn't just his son getting pregnant.

Agreed, paragraph max of the HAPPENING, then if you want additional context put it in a spoiler
I'd use the metric of, I often use a steam deck wtih 1280 x 800 resolution. I think as soon as a community post gets above like, 1.5 the size of the sceen height, its getting a bit too long. Theres exceptions, some situations are just TOO fucking complex to leave out a bunch of context, media can bloat stuff up, but if you are past that size, you REALLY need to consider if its IMPORTANT to get the idea across.

and by important, I dont mean "I understand the entire scenario from the post" I mean, if you DIDN'T have it, would someone call you a fucking retarded for making a post that doesn't give them the foggiest idea whats going on.

Another analogy which might work for the autistic, remember dragon ballz where it said "ON THE LAST EPISODE OF DRAGON BALL Z" and it summed up a 25 minute episode in like 15 seconds? yeah, do it like that, Ideally.

I think this is the perfect way to do it. An excellent compromise. People can write just enough to cover why anyone should give a shit, and then if they are interested, they can read more or jump right into the thread. This should be the style adopted for the Happenings thread.

Masturbation. Shitting up threads and making them annoying to browse because "I enjoy it" is more important than posting something others would find useful.
Then it's mutual masturbation because you read what I wrote and it lead you here in the first place.

Did you miss all the people saying they don't read them? If you write an essay people skip past it or burn out before you even get to the point. It's a summary thread, not an OP.

Plenty of people do seem to actually read them and find them interesting, and plenty more people who find them to not be interesting simply skip past them.

A lot can be fixed by writing shorter sentences. Omit unnecesary information. Lower the amount of jokes that only thread regulars get.

Just skimming through the happening threads, I see multiple sentences that are quite literally THREE lines long
That builds up, is boring to read. Use punctuation.

Everybody values effort, but that also includes making it nice and easy to read.

Wow, complaining about effortposts on a forum. Gtfo to Twitter, I guess.
We desperately need a reels feature for zoomers and phoneposters on Kiwifarms. I think that could help to strike the right balance.

I'm thinking the future of Kiwifarms Community Happenings posts should look more like this:

I raised this with Null last year and got told politely, but firmly, fuck off. Now I just rate any post that is overly long as dumb.

The issue with overly long posts is that people won't engage with the content and then the cool content that it is trying to promote will be ignored.

Posts in the community and happenings thread should be no longer than 5 sentences and a single piece of media. If that doesn't work for you, then you suck at english and should kill yourself.

I dare null to actually enforce his rules in the community and happenings thread.

Edit: for those saying we should report the overly long posts. I did that until the Jannies got triggered and banned me from reporting posts in the community and happenings thread.

The effort post goes in the thread. The teaser/announcement goes in the community happenings. Rekieta spergs are specially bad at this concept and will put entire live stream summaries in a community happening.

Come to think of it the directions say "Look at how other posts are written before posting". Maybe I'm the one doing it wrong?
I need to make longer, and more frequent, austingambles posts.

I apologize to all the long-post fans for my previous brevity, and will endeavor to make up for it in the future.
