I'm not saying that I pirate games, but coming from a pretty poor country I can tell you that you just don't want to give your hard earned potato money to bullshiters like Ubisoft who charge the same ammounts for lesser and lesser quality or thugs like Microsoft who used to put in a bunch of GFWL spyware in their games, some of which you can't find to buy anywhere besides the pirate bay.
But yeah, you should pay for games, especially from small developerinos.

This is gonna sound retarded, because I do actually buy games to support the devs but I prefer to download repacks out of convenience because I have a crappy internet (thanks, fitgurl) and I really don't give a f about achievements and other social media crap, I don't play games to talk to people. GOG is my go-to platform because you can just download games w/o using their crappy launcher, but if a game is more than 5GB downloading all archives is an ass, so torrenting is once again a better option.
Emulators became good over the years because have fun finding retro shit at a reasonable price.

I mostly buy retro shit now, which is retardedly expensive. Doesn't leave much room what are effectively DRM rentals, and i haven't really paid more than 5 bucks for a steam game in years. Ones i do buy though i pirate first.

If it's a game from a series I really like and I want it I'll buy it.

If I just want to try something out but it isn't cool enough for me to want it indefinitely or it's a game I can't find anymore the legit way, or it has a ridiculously high price tag I'll pirate it.

Justifying piracy is gay. It's like you're insecure about the fact you don't pay for shit.

Personally I don't pirate games because I mostly play on console, or if I'm on PC I play games I'd actually like to support. I'll pay money for Gloomwood when it comes out, but any other PC game I'll take for free.

There are some games that are so extremely rare there is no way to play them if it not have been for emulation and copies on sale would be completely out of stock. Unfortunately forms of media are susceptible to natural decay which would cause previous working forms of media like Cartridges and CD's to no longer work later on. There are probably some rare games that are completely lost due to this.

Tenshi no Hohoemi has very little information on the Internet and is probably released in very limited quality. Masys, the developer and publisher don't even feature this game on this site. Getting this medium is the only way of getting the game which luckily there is no high demand for so you'll probably effortlessly get a copy of it yourself. If anyone is willing to spend 15 dollars to create a torrent for this item for anyone to experience, be my guest because eventually this game is going to become extremely hard to find. The game itself is released in November of 1996 and it's about time that games released on this medium around that time are gonna succumb to disk rot.

If I were to pirate, it would only be from devs who have displayed even a modicum of faggotry publicly and the game looks interesting. My favorite games recently happened to have been made by the most based: Factorio and Brigador. So I give them my money and buy their game and gift it to others.

Of course I wouldn't pirate, and my steam library is so full I probably won't ever get through them all...
But in the hypothetical scenario in which I did pirate, and needed to provide a hypothetical reason then it would probably be that a lot of exclusive games were released on the 360 and PS3 and with increase in PC power and better emulation it's finally gotten tot the point where it's feasible to play these long lost exclusives.

Games no longer provide demos and many developers suck ass and I don't want to support them. If I play a game of the former category, I am likely to buy it later. The latter I almost never purchase in the future, unless on a heavy sale. In general though it's if I want to try a game that I would likely never buy otherwise, either because of category B or because the game just looks like it will be a funny glitch fest.
