Why has the world suddenly become such a hilarious shitshow?

I guess it's partly to do with a generation of having the internet become mainstream which caused hugboxes/echo chambers and combined with cultural bubbles in rich metropolitan areas/academia it lead to a rude awaking in the 'progressive' left when they suddenly realised not everyone follows their ideology.

That's true, echo chambers work both ways too but the hard left were under the illusion they were in the majority despite losing connections with their working class roots and many still seem to be in denial about it and still don't understand why people voted for Trump or Brexit.

Primarily because of the media if anything; in recent decades with the proliferation of mass media, people have decided to "opt out" of real life and live in fantasy world of reality TV, Tumblr communities, video games and the like.

Though for what it's worth, the media is biased to propagating negative information because it sells better, so spending too much time watching the media can also give a person an exaggerated negative impression.

Pretty much because now, when you try to control the madness, your being racist or sexist or misogynistic, the world has always been this way, it's just that butthurt, sensitive people have now trumped common sense because "your being mean to me how dare you ;'''(((((((((("

It's also a time where now, since common sense no longer reigns, people are no longer afraid to let their true insanity out and there will ALWAYS be a white knight to their defense when someone says their being a fucktard.

I'd be lying if I said GI Joe, Afterburner, Ikari Warriors and Top Gun were not to blame for me joining the Marines when I got out of college

Abuse and misuse of Religious practices (see the Bible Belt and other examples of forcing Christianity into applications of law & order in the US, and Islam... Just Islam in general) are only part of this (growing) problem of the world being a more noticeable shitshow, m8.
