The last article posted to OAG was the controversy surrounding
Total War: Rome II. Gamers got angry because they tend to not like forced updates patching in Diversity™ and People of Color™. There was also the matter of historical inaccuracy, because, you know, women were totally treated as equals in Ancient Rome and allowed to lead invading armies. And it’s not like invaders raped the living shit out of women in every town they raided, either.
The developers took on the standard “If you don’t like, you can just not play it” ‘fuck you’ to their actual customers in response.
Feminists, of course, got outraged at the backlash on places like the Mary Sue, renowned for its objective journalism and integrity.

This Tweet, from unexceptional individual Mark Brown, has been cited on 8chan and OAG’s comment section as being the biggest source of discontent over the OAG article. From Mark Brown the story was picked up by Kotaku and Newsweek. Here he blasted OAG for not only being pro-GG but also being linked to/endorsed by The Daily Stormer, a Neo-Nazi site.

Whether any of this is connected to what followed is yet unknown, but One Angry Gamer spent the entirety of last week being hacked and then knocked offline in a DDoS storm. According to Billy, the site was hacked not once but twice. After the site’s files were corrupted, a technician restored a 2016 backup, only to have the attacker(s) immediately strike again.

Over on Billy’s official Twitter account, he was very quiet and short about addressing the OAG situation:

I have been unable to find any other threads on the subject, which would have been nice for verifying credible sources. There is talk that Billy was doxxed during the hack, and that it was carried out by Nigerians, and that Billy has called it quits:

Billy is still writing articles over on Cinema Blend.

His readers over on OAG remain on standby with no word from Billy on the state of things.
