And he could've gotten the surgery years ago by his own admission where he said he had the money for it multiple times.
He could've gotten it in America where it would have been better and safer when he was at his peak, and probably recovered much more easily as well. Instead he bought a new truck every few months or something, from the sounds of it.
This is likely due to Wings practicing what I call "gesture mentality". It's where you come up with this series of grand gestures that you're going to perform that is going to knock over the string of dominoes that results in you having the perfect life you think you deserve and can have if you just accomplish This One Thing, or This List Of Stuff.
The problem that sometimes arises with gesture mentality (beyond the fact that it's a problem in and of itself) is that even the person practicing it sometimes begins to detect the pattern where even if they accomplish their arbitrary goal, this has failed to suddenly resolve everything else without any further effort on their part. They don't want to examine what's actually going wrong with this sequence of events, so they instead begin procrastinating on their gestures. (Which is even worse, considering the gestures themselves are essentially a form of procrastination.)
It's why I said awhile back that the surgery was unlikely to do anything for Wings, because the surgery itself was just a gesture in his mind. The very fact that he put it off so long, threw up all these self-imposed blocks to doing it, was indicative that for him it was just another essentially meaningless goal he'd set that would fix everything... except even he knew it wouldn't. In his research he must have discovered all the people saying "It won't do anything if you don't change your lifestyle and work to get healthy", and he knew he wouldn't do that because he's failed to do that every time he's tried, on his own or with help. Not just failed, but actively rejected it. He knew that once he got the surgery, what it meant was coming up with a new excuse for why he wasn't moving forward.
The surgery isn't going to make him better his life. Driving him off Twitch or throwing his flaws and misdeeds in his face isn't going to make him better his life. The only thing that is going to make Wings better his life is if he sincerely decides he is ready to begin making that change and really, actually working for it, and no one, not his (former) friends, not his trolls, not his anti-trolls, is going to make him do that, because no one is going to make him do that, he has to choose it.
