Ah, man. I really wanted Japan to win. They were so close.

Poor Japan. Such an epic upset on the way :(
At least they went out with honor.

I'm only paying attention this World Cup because I decided to participate in the office sweepstakes and got Colombia.

This means the next game's a win-win for me - if England win my country gets through to the Quarter Finals. If they lose, I get my fiver back.

Unfortunately greed trumps national pride (what little there is left to have for England), so I will be cheering for Colombia. But if England does get through, as I said, it'll be one of the few things to be proud of them for these days.

Last of the R16 left with these two games:
Sweden-Switzerland

Colombia-England

I really don't know what to expect from the first match. Both sides have their weaknesses and strengths. Sweden had a good game against Mexico, but also managed to lose to a very messy Germany. Switzerland got through with two ties, though their game against Serbia showed they could push themselves towards a win. I'll give an edge to Sweden.

England has to show they can win against better countries. I'll excuse their performance against Belgium since they were both through and resting players, but if they can't beat Colombia, then they got just lucky. Colombia needs to be careful to not lose their cool and make mistakes, like in their first game against Japan. Another close match, but I think Colombia can win it.

I love when Mexico think they're going to achieve big things and get a dose of reality.

If we write "Round of 16" on the border wall, Mexicans won't get past it for sure.

Japan vs. Belguim was a intense as All might vs. All for one.

I honestly don't care about England nor Colombia but if England losing means bong shitposters on /sp/ will stop spamming "IT'S COMING HOME LADS" then I'm rooting for Colombia.

According to Mexican posters on /sp/, they already saw it coming. Very few Mexicans had any hope. Just how many times could Mexico get past ro16 again? 2?
Also yesterday was Election Day in Mexico so they have more important stuff to worry about.

Belgium 3 - 2 Japan
THAT... Was one hell of a match - Japan put up a damn good fight here, if those 2 goals in succession were any indication in the 2nd Half. Of course, that's all it took for Belgium to wake up and kick ass at the end; that was one enjoyable comeback and I look forward to them kicking the shit outta Brazil when Quarterfinals start up.

Good job, Belgium; keep on kicking ass for me, please & thank you.

Nice effort, Japan; didn't know you had it in you. Hope you make it back and kick more ass in 2022 than this.

Great offensive play from Sweden from time to time. Rarely seen such offensive qualities from the team. They did perhaps back down a bit too much after the goal and allowed themselves to get pinned down in something looking like a really long ice-hockey powerplay, but Switzerland didn't have more than one or two really hot chances in the 2nd half despite all that possession. So it turned out to be a good strat in the end.

Sweden has a great historical record against England. I'd almost put Sweden as the favorite if England beats Colombia.

Colombia vs. England - they're spending more time free kicking and recieving yellow cards than playing (Colombia specifically - the ref hates them) England got a single goal from a penalty kick at 57'.
EDIT: Holy shit! Colombia equalizes. Extra time it is!
