Tiny isn't a tiger. At all. He's a Tasmanian Tiger, which, apart from the name, is not related to tigers, or even big cats. I know Tasmanian Tigers have been extinct since 1936, but... come on, it's Crash Bandicoot, a game series that can be weirder than Spyro and Ratchet & Clank. And Tiny, if you really ponder it, is more realistic than splicing a dingo and a crocodile together = Dingodile (Well, no, then!). Tiny could be explained away with, "He's from a lost part of Tasmania, that no one's ever been to - at least not in many, many, many, MANY years.", or what have you.

I don't know if anyone brought this one up before me ages ago, and I couldn't be arsed trawling through a spunkload of pages, and I know most fellow Crash fans disliked the redesign, too.

His voice, and this is a bit of a... hot take: I can get past it. I actually find his Mike Tyson thing chuckle-worthy, and, in the NDS version, Nolan North voices him, and gives him a squeaky voice. It makes me think of the mouse from Bear in the Big Blue House, which I used to watch religiously as a tot.

I looked up the aforementioned mouse, in order to jog my memory, and it's Tutter:

I realise this is Art & Literature, but Tiny Tiger instantly popped into my mind when I came across this thread.

That reminds me:

Original PS1 design. Iconic.

What was Radical Entertainment thinking with THEIR redesign?

Looks like a methed up Daxter.

It's not that bad to me, but I miss his gloves. And I never really understood the "sudden" tribal tattoos. Perhaps, if I'm remembering correctly, they're linked with Aku-Aku, and controlling the Titans.
A lot of these weird 2000s era redesigns happened within a few years of each other, sometimes it kind ofmakes me wonder if it was like a ripple effect from sonic getting green eyes and smoothed out a little. To anyone who had not paid attention to sonic, they woudn't know it was technically already in the game art albeit inconsistently. They just took it as "modernized/remastered" or some shit and then rolled with the extreme degree of redesigns we saw like with crash and frogger.

With both sonic and mario, as well as some other stuff like megaman, there was a gradual but slight evolution/change in the artstyle of the games as the series progressed it didn't come out of the blue and was mostly confined to promo art and small noticable details in the sprite work. Once Mario and sonic made the jump to 3d they both got smoothed out in a way that was a continuation of that with small additional details. This gets distorted with sonic because for the last 11 years now since sonic generations happened, classic sonic's been like a small short fat light blue bean thing based on the first game's in game sprite. This was to differentiate him from Modern sonic, but classic sonic in art was (almost) always a darker shade of blue. When you actually look at the official promo artwork for classic sonic, ESPECIALLY TOWARDS THE TIME RIGHT BEFORE SONIC ADVENTURE, he's pretty much the same as modern sonic but with black eyes.

This is not a "bad redesign", this is an example of a good/natural evolution.

Man's literally the same save for different shading and small details.
You know what IS a bad redesign?

The redesign of modern super sonic that made people go "UHHHH WHY DO THEY SAY SSHADOW LOOK SLIKE SONIC?" Granted people that never played the games would think this regardless, but Shadow is quite literally a palette swapped SA1 super sonic for a good portion of his model. This was used as a thematic tool in Sa2 when they both go super at the end. 1727945972669.png
Despite this, you see people who apparently played THROUGH SA2 somehow not getting this anymore.
Why is that, you may ask?
Why, the same thing that killed Sonic's perception to almost everyone. Sonic 06.
1727946199047.png1727946225626.png

They redesigned super sonic to just basically being a constant falling animation for the hair and as a result this reference is lost.

Sega is delisting Crazy Taxi (among with other classic titles.) Crazy Taxi's box art is generic as hell.

Original Dreamcast release:

1731021843046.png

Cool. Looks like I'm a taxi driver in some metropolis.

PS2/GC re-release:

1731021923612.png

Just a yellow background with the logo. How would I know what game Crazy Taxi is?

At least the XBLA port restored the original art (but is missing the product placement and licensed songs).

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day ruined. This is a leaked icon for Viktor from Arcane/League of Legends.
Screenshot_20241107-185722_(1).png
If this is what he looks like in the show, no one, and I mean NO ONE is going to draw him like this in fanart. A supposed leaker who's seen the other acts has said this is not his actual appearance, and I hope they're right. He looks like he belongs on Drag Race while cosplaying as Ludwig the Accursed.

By contrast, this is him from Legends of Runeterra:

I better get my cyborg. He's the MACHINE HERALD, not a JEHOVAH'S HERALD (which it appears he'll be).

Here's Warwick:

People have said this is him mid transformation. He better be. Here's Warwick in game:

From the Wrath of Zaun to depressed furry man . This entire season is looking to be a downgrade.

Jaguar is currently undergoing a rebirth, by going all-EV with the vehicle lineup, as well as changing their logo. And the logo changes are a MASSIVE downgrade:

Current logo:

New logos:
1732070026241.png 1732070038807.png 1732070048458.png

The new "JaGUar" typeface has some similarities to the Chinese brand Lynk & Co's logo:

And it's likely that Jaguar's rebirth will flop HARD, and it will likely to get snatched by the Chinese from their current Pajeet owner (Tata) at discounted prices.

Transformers franchise is (unfortunately) a gold mine for this, especially the movies. A few examples...

I detested what Bay did with the Transformers designs. They all look like nothing but piles of car parts and are almost completely indistinguishable from each other unless you know exactly what you are looking for. You put animated Hot Rod and Wheeljack next to each other and you know they are seperate characters. You put "realistic" Hot Rod and Wheeljack together and you would be hard pressed to tell them apart if you weren't already aware of who was who.

Someone once said the fight scenes in the Bay movie was like throwing engine parts in a dryer and just watching them fly around. That is so very true.

Yeah, but the Bayverse toys are good because they have some very complex engineering to accommodate those crazy designs, and the realism allowed them to make Transformers of really weird vehicles (biplane, ice cream truck, bank truck, NASCAR racers) rather than "sci-fi-ish sports car #Ϫ". Also the vehicle modes for preexisting characters were really cool -- Ratchet, Optimus Prime, the Constructicons, and all the real-life car alt modes readily come to mind as improvements forced by the realism. This even translates to the toys; you wouldn't know stuff like Legends Barricade are Transformers at first glance!

An easy way to improve the Bay designs would be to give them their G1 color schemes, it's amazing how much more distinct in makes them.

GTA2's box art from the UK compared to the original.

Context: this is the box art for the original release in the US circa October of 1999.

1735421591602.png

Well, for the PS1 and PC.

Here's the European reprint:

1735421752781.png

This is just the original GTA box art from the US with a 2 on it. Actually, that's not exactly true. That's the box art for the PS1 release of GTA1 in the US.

1735421967074.png

Even more confusing: this was GTA1's box art for the PC in some European countries.

1735422021822.png

I'm confusing myself with the inconsistent box arts. At least from GTA3 onward, the box art template is standard for almost all regions.

This is true for like a BIG chunk of the first movie's cast. Jazz especially because as people have pointed out constantly over the years he's just the g1 design modern mecha-ified but silver and a different (bit still similar enough looking) car. Something that gets REALLY obvious when you look at the g1 color scheme toy they put out for him around that timeframe.

WARNING: AUTISTIC SPERGING AHEAD

IMG_2317.png
Stumbled across this while browsing. These are supposed to be fanmade redesigns of the pac-man ghosts but they look like shit to be honest.

IMG_2318.webp
One of the most noticeable problems is how you feel like your eyes are damn bleeding when you stare at it for too long. another problem is the weird shapes and eyes. It’s like it’s trying too hard to be different in a bad way. For some reason the blue one look like Sans from Undertale, The pink one looks like the artist was trying to draw it as a horny freak. The problem isn’t adding more “complex” details onto what can be considered blobs with eyes because I’m going to provide another example similar but works for different reasons:

IMG_2320.jpeg
As before, these renditions are more cartoonish and wildly different to the official ones, and the artist seemingly knows how to use colors properly. They lean much more into the “bedsheet” look of the OGs while adding distinct features that fit the ghosts’ characters individually if your autistic enough to know what parts of the franchise the artist pulled from, and it doesn’t make the average viewer cringe in comparison. The only questionable thing is the orange one with it’s tiny moobs but iirc the hard-reboot Ghostly Adventures depiction was a fat dumbass so I digress. iirc the blue one was also “chill” in the reboot but it’s done in a much better way then the eyebleeding Sans ghost. Anyways that’s the end of my MATI spergout.

I saw another live action HTTYD trailer and it made me MATI.
Toothless1.pngToothless2.pngToothless3.pngToothless Live Action.png

Every single movie after the first dumbs down Toothless' design slightly. He gets slightly blockier, slightly lumpier, slightly grayer, even his pupils get slightly more squarish. In the first movie he was sleek, with a bluish black color and subtle camo markings, now he's a solid gray potato of a dragon.

And that's not even getting into the live action version. That thing looks like a frog with extra chromosomes.
