Worst RPG members ever

Geno is great for clearing trash (and hilariously Exor is not immune to his death beam). Mallow... well he can be decent but not enough monsters are weak against lightning to make him useful.
Mallow is all about clearing groups of enemies, which he's quite good at. Usually when people say he sucks, they're either trying to use physical attacks, or found an enemy resistant to lightning (with counters against it). Mallow shines in places like the Sunken Ship or parts of Land's End and Bean Valley where most enemies can be taken out by Thunderbolt in one turn, and anyone else can be kicked around by Mario. And he's excellent in Barrel Volcano where everything is weak to either Thunderbolt/Shocker or Snowy and can be taken out in one move.

We aren't friends anymore.

You really can't list anyone as useless in trails of cold steel 1 considering there's a glitch that allows you infinite shining Poms and you can level up everyone to 99 by chapter 2 or 3. At that point you're still killing shit even on nightmare with ease, it boils down to who has the biggest AOE to hit every member of an enemy group and Elliot has Nocturne bell.

Yeah but he's also an annoying ginger pussy

Cosmic Star Heroine -
I haven't played this game in a long time, but I remember there being a gimmicky party member that involved way too much strategy to actually make him worth using. There's a character named Clarke who's a disco dancing robot. His whole schtick of dealing damage revolves around using moves that kill him in the process, making it necessary to revive him.

It's all just way too much of a hassle when you have enough characters that can actually fight without ridiculous gimmicks.
there are many not useful characters in that game.

You know for all the trail fans i'm surpised no one mentioned josette.
edit, personality wise Anise from tales of abyss, its like luke expect without the good character development.

From a game mechanics perspective, he's pretty good, but from a storyline perspective, he's kind of obnoxious until the later games. Not nearly as annoying as FF13's Hope though.

Dang I have been playing this game wrong as long as some of the people here have probably been alive lmfao
The rule with "equipping" party members in Fallout 1 is that they're typically locked into a certain weapon "type" based on sprite model. This is something that carried over to Fallout 2 (but Fallout 2 had proper party management screens) - Sulik, for example, cannot use most pistols because he has no sprites for wielding them, but he CAN use the .223 pistol, a lot of SMGs, and the H&K G11 because they all use the same sprite.

IIRC there is a mod for Fallout 1 that will drastically improve party management (and let you avoid things like Ian or Dogmeat blocking doorways, as in vanilla Fallout 1 you didn't even have the ability to "push" party members away from doorways and such to unblock them).

FF6: Gau, the Yeti. I'd say Gogo as well. He's....useable but by this point in the game you can just beat down anything without having to time your attacks for him to work.
I don't think anyone else addressed this, but you DO know that you can go into the character screen and assign Gogo skills other then just Mimic right? He has 3 slots that can be filled with literally every skill other then Magitek, Terra's transformation and Bannon's health. Gogo has shit for stats but it doesn't matter by the time you get him and having someone with support shit like Magic, Runic and Steal is nice so the other 3 people can just focus on pumping out numbers.

I remember being so grateful the first time I saw those party management screens in f2 if I were less of a pussyfoot I’d have been in those mods ages ago 😓

Tbh most of the staff in 3H aside from Seteth, Flayn and Catherine, with Alois and Shamir sometimes. Which sucks because a lot of them are interesting.

But fuck Gilbert since 1. He’s a shit father to Annette and 2. If you know what your doing, he gets shafted in the only fucking route he’s in like 2 chapters in.

and Meg, she couldn’t tank hits for shit in her debut, so I didn’t reset. Sorry brom, but natural selection does it’s thing.

Lucia from Shadow Hearts Covenant. Gimmicky character, every oil combination she does can be replicated with crests or another characters abilities, and the tarot cards reverse mechanic happening on the party instead is stupid unless you want to make the game slightly more difficult for yourself by randomly handicapping yourself.

Also Kurando. He’s a budget Yuri with two transformations that just wastes a slot in your party. Keep Yuri and Joachim if you need melee.

Phantasy Star 2 - Hugh slightly edges out Shir for worst, both are worse than your other options in battle, but at least Shir will steal Star Mists and Moon Dew for you. Amy's not great either, but there are a couple points in the game where she's useful.
PS 4 - Agree with the other poster, Gryz is just too damn slow.

Persona 1 - Yuka/Alana - I don't think I have ever used her in a playthrough.
P2:EP - I don't even dislike them, but I think it would have been fine without the P1 characters joining your party.
P3 - As everyone else has said, Ken. He really doesn't do anything well enough to ever warrant being in the party.
P4/P5 - Mascot characters a shit. Haru comes in too late to make much of an impression, but I seem to remember some Mementos dialogues that implied Haru's kind of a psycho. I think if they had played that up a (very) little bit in the rest of the game, she would have been more memorable.
DDS 1 - Heat gets perma-benched as soon as you get your 4th
DDS 2 - Roland, just because he hasn't gone through everything with you like the rest have.

Persona's a weird game in that it's great variability means you can cover any offensive holes you need to without much trouble. But the downside to that is your character can do anything as well as/better than any other character, just takes swapping out personas, so the other party members can feel like they're just along for the ride once you've got the hang of fusions.

Yakuza 7 - Would have been Eri, but darts and thumbtacks too stronk. I just ran Ichi, Adachi, Saeko, once Eri was available.

Honestly, there are some party members I'll occasionally use because I'm the type who wants to keep everyone within the same level range (because hey, you might need to have Karol from Tales of Vesperia in your party to help heal in battle when a certain character who's the main medic goes missing) and also I'm a bit of a completionist, so I've never really had too much of a dislike for characters when it comes to game mechanics.
However, it's completely different when it comes to story and character development.

I dont think I've had a dislike as strong as Sera from Dragon Age: Inquisition. She's such an annoying, unlikeable bitch, I never used her aside from finishing her personal quest (which, from a storytelling perspective, was total shit too). Honestly, none of your party members were interesting or likeable...expect Varric, because Varric is a true bro.

Don't know if anyone played any of the Xenosaga games, but I found Jr. to be a whiny, egotistical brat - despite him actually being an adult in a twelve year old's body. It gets worse when in later installments, he gets into a relationship with an AI who looks and acts like a twelve year old girl. But I guess it's not a big deal because it's Friedrich Nietzsche's future?

Poo from Earthbound. Paula already does what he does, and she isn't as picky about the equipment you get. What, you can't swing a baseball bat like the rest of us, you little shit?

Also, Zell from Final Fantasy 8. Punchable twerp.

Poo has a number of perks - unlike Paula he can cast healing PSIs, Starstorm Omega is ludicrously strong, he gets a ton of benefit from water bottles and brainfood lunches (making his PSI easier to sustain without those sometimes-scarce Magic Truffles/Puddings) and if you manage to find his Kings gear he can actually do good damage with strikes and soak hits like a champ.
