It makes even less sense if you think about it, because why would the ipad allow him to login to the account? Presumably, all it would have is the autologin information saved, it's not like the information would magically update itself with the account's new password. So, either the totally real person who bought the account didn't change the password, in which case DSP could attempt to login from any device and it doesn't matter whether it was an ipad or not, or the password was changed and it makes no sense to try resurrecting the ipad. That part of the story made no sense for a couple of reasons. The ipad thing was clearly just the pointless extra details that pathological liars throw into their stories to attempt to make them more believable.
For one, he said the ipad didn't work so he tried charging it fully and got it to work, so was it broken or not? Why mention it was broken if it just needed to be charged? Or if you knew it was broken, why would you even think to log in to wwe champions with a broken ipad?
And then like you said, even if he could log in to the old account, what if the other guy was actively playing it when phil logged in? He had no problem possibly kicking the new guy out of the account? What if he was in the middle of a super important wwe champions match?
It was an already flimsy and unbelievable lie, but by trying to add details to legitimize it, Phil just presented further proof that he doesn't understand how selling an account works.
I don't think it's taxes related, in no small part because Phil doesn't have that kind of foresight. If it happened like, a week before taxes were due, maybe. I think this is just Phil finally realizing he can actually play a game he enjoys on stream without giving detractors a win because he really thinks he's fooled people with his lie about selling the account.Am I missing anything? So my overall theory on this insanity is that he is playing and spending big on stream as a safety net for claiming his Scopely bills on his taxes, as he fears he might be in the line of sight for an audit.
I mentioned it in the main thread, but he picked the worse possible way to try and capitalize on Champions. We've seen in real time pretty much everything he makes in tips goes right into the new account on stream, so he's already not making much money when the stream ends. But because it isn't even his main account, he's presumably spending just as much once the stream ends on DownFromTheRaftors, so he's basically taking two financial hits.
