Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition

Look, this is the biggest thing a console maker can do to discourage consumer confidence short of announcing the entire thing's end. It is a given that there's lots of people on the hardware and advertising side of things that hate this because it indirectly threatens their jobs. The only question to me is whether this is coming from the beancounters within MGS or if its from Satya Nadella, himself, and my bet is the later.
I've heard it's from the MS side rather than the gaming side but not anyone in particular.

Random Thought: The real reason they would cancel the XSX refresh is because there are too many unsold Series X on the market still.

I heard that they put them on sale for 350 during the holidays and they didn't sell. I didn't even know tbqh, I probably would have bought one if I had known at the time.
I kept an eye on them last Christmas and I always saw them for like either $400, or $500 with a game and an extra controller bundled.

Unfortunately I think the only thing Microsoft hasn't fucked up in the past decade has been Forza. So the outlook is grim.
Their new controllers are pretty nice now, they've just taken the 360 controller and kept refining it.

I managed to snag the Diablo IV bundle at Walmart for around $360. I personally blame the economy and lack of innovation in the gaming industry.

If that's true then I hope to God and Heaven above that they don't completely fuck it up and ruin everything like they did with Banjo Nuts and Bolts.
Its going to be paint by numbers slop farmed out to whatever gun for hire studio bid the lowest on it. If you're lucky you'll get something a bit better than Super Lucky's Tale.

Yeah, thats what everyone is saying. But they aren't saying it because of "confidential sources", they're saying it because it makes sense. Nadella has always talked about wanting to be on open platforms without exclusivity, but so far has seemingly held back and let the game people do the game stuff. Now all of a sudden things are being done the way he likes. Is it because Phil and Matt suddenly saw the light and started agreeing with him or did he put a gun to their heads and remind them who's actually boss? Probably the later but none of the big leakers have confirmed it as such.

Maybe they, or someone else, retires soon or even gets fired, and if that happens then we can take it as proof. But even if that doesn't happen the big boss Satya theory seems to be the most logical, and is thus what people are saying. A decade from now the book will be written and we can all look back on this and parcel out who was right and wrong.

I doubt that the Xbox brand has been in the black for even five random years in the almost 25 it's been a thing. The Xbox barely scratched into 2nd place that gen when the PS2 might as well have been the only console it blew away the competition so hard, the 360 sold well but MS shit the bed with having to comp half of them because of the RROD, and Mattrick freaked people out by mandating a camera with always online functionality on the X1 when the NSA leaks about how they were spying on literally everybody was in the news. Then we're in the middle of this gen which is so fucking barren that the total amount of games you need to buy a current console for wouldn't even match a launch lineup from years past, and we're well into year three.

MS pulling the plug on the console has been a decade-long rumor, yeah, but for good reason. But nobody wants to be the guy who ended the one normie-facing product the company has that's somewhat liked.

Despite everyone sperging out about Xbox supposedly "dying" next week I've been thinking about picking up a Series X since I should be getting my big PTO payout with my check next week. I can't really say that I'm interested in any new Xbox games coming out but I'm pretty interested in trying out Game Pass and that Goldeneye remaster is right up my ally.

What sold the Xbox wasn't the Xbox or even the exclusives, but the Xbox Live functionality. It practically set the standard of what to expect for an online gaming ecosystem. Achievements, parties, cross-platform, specials.

Are you pro or anti buying digital? Because a lot of Xbox output just skips physical entirely.

If you do want to pick one up, wait until the announcement and then buy from a panic seller on ebay.

You'd do better just buying a pre-built gaming PC.
Already built my own gaming PC in 2022, it's my main gaming platform. Still bought a Switch for the Nintendo games and then I bought a PS5 mainly for Final Fantasy, even tho those games will end up on the PC anyway, I barely touch both consoles anyway.

I'm mostly interested in the Series X for the backwards compatibility since I learned that a lot of 360 games have upgraded patches at no extra cost (from what I've been told anyway) that run most of the games at 60FPS in 4K, not to mention I would love to play the remastered versions of Perfect Dark and Goldeneye since the N64 versions have aged horribly and are completely unplayable now because of the N64 controller retardedly only having one analog stick. Not to mention I learned that the Xbox store has quite a few Sega Saturn games like Radiant Silvergun, Guardian Heroes, Virtua Fighter 2 and even Fighting Vipers and none of those games ever came out on Steam.

You could buy Rare Replay on a sale and get the remaster with your digital copy for cheap.

I tried the Goldeneye remaster; the Activision remake is better IMO. Of course that's telling of my age.

Don't you get the Goldeneye remaster for free if you buy a digital copy of Rare Replay? I think the game is a free bonus if you own a digital version regardless if you have Game Pass or not.

...do they actually call it a remaster and not a port? It isn't even the XBLA version with the updated textures I thought.
It's a remaster. 4K resolution, updated controls, smoother frame rate/pace.

Rare dropped the ball by having no online with the remaster. The Switch does.

I heard that they put them on sale for 350 during the holidays and they didn't sell.
They put them on sale right after telling retailers that they were phasing out physical games. And retailers began entirely removing their physical media sections for movies and television shows. And consumers know this. They are not going to go to a store to purchase a console that has no games that they can take with them. They are not going to purchase a bluray player when they can't buy any blurays. These companies are killing themselves to try to force an all digital and streaming future on everyone. Rent seeking.

Majority of PS5 games are physical sales for their first party games. Switch is still slightly more than half for physical. Yet Microsoft wants to go all digital when there is zero demand for it. All those digital sales that these game companies get are for digital exclusive games. When consumers get a choice they still go with the physical. But because so many games are digital only it skews the numbers.

I've been hearing Xbox is doomed for 20 years now.
They are doomed though. Doomed to be the best console platform on the market. Nintendo, yeah keep your handheld bing bing wahoos and handheld games where you play as kids long enough to be put on a list. Playstation? Last I heard they only make movies nowadays pimp.
