Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition

The legend goes that one MS executive thought so in a visit to Rare, he saw a poster of DK in the office and had the belief that they also bought the franchise alongside the studio.
I always heard it was Ballmer himself who believed it.

Then again, I also believed that Yamauchi told Ballmer "suck my little yellow balls" so...

Microsoft should buy Monolith so they can remake No One Lives Forever with a Lizzo-sized black tranny as the protagonist. With the skin-tight suit of course. We've mastered breast physics, time to focus on blubber physics.
already done

I had the impression that they thought giving the developers they bought a shit ton of freedom was the choice to make because game journo and RetardEra were constantly bitching about how EA and Activision and Ubisoft ruin everything with interference.

But if that was the case, holy shit what a disaster cause they haven't been able to get anything out, let alone anything anyone who spends money actually gives a shit about.
that was almost always the case, it's basically what made people shit on EA for the longest time (like how it was never bioware's fault etc.). molyneux outright said as much after they did magic carpet and the executives came in just dumping loadsa money, stalling any creativity or progress. or look at ion storm after they got fuck-you money and how they spend it. meanwhile you got devs coming out listing all the limitations and circumstances they had to deal with and still produce great fucking games.

that being said there also was a time when MS was messing hard with their studios, iirc ryse was one of the victims of that (similar to EA and dead space 3, so it seems to be always either too much or not enough).

I always figured there were million and millions of people who wanted stuff more involved than Candy Crush, but were also too normie for PC gaming.

Based on sales this generation, it appears I may have been full of shit.
I feel that pain, mate. I'm dying for a PC-quality deep strategy (sci-fi themed 4X, TRPG or whatever) game I can play on my Android tablet that also isn't gacha shit. I'm absolutely willing to pay PC game prices for such a thing, though it'd better work (completely) if the tablet is offline and had better not beg me for more money as I play it or show any ads.

Such a thing does not exist, alas, and likely never will because of how radically different the two markets are.

Feels bad, man.

tabletop simulator? any of the old ones like master of orion?

there might also be indies since it doesn't require that much expensive assets, just autistic numbercrunching and code someone can do on it's own.

For those curious, this is only a minor inconvenience in game, you just move camp and rebuild it. Still funny.

Does Fallout 76 tell you who bombs your settlement/camp? Because if that turns into a trend, I'd imagine they'd get banned for harassment. Doom and gloom I know, but given how restrictive gaming interactions are, it wouldn't surprise me.

It gives a server wide alert. People on reddit complain all the time about their rainbow flag camps getting nuked, but its also part of the game so Microsoft wont do anything about it. You can also straight up murder anyone that doesnt have paacifist mode on and wreck their camps the old fashioned way, but most players are always on passive mode.

MS should call this gen the last and start folding these studios under Activision as a 3rd party company rather than waste effort on more hardware people won't buy. Use what ever money they would be wasting on hardware on setting up studios to handle games like Tony Hawks 3/4 remakes or to get bigger ips such as Fallout out faster. Use this gen to get their devs in shape for the future as a 3rd party

Their hardware sells like shit, already had to start porting games to other consoles, they paid to much money for Activision to make them go 3rd party, Gamepass growth as stopped, number of ips are a mess and now got more bad press from killing these studios.

Maybe it's a good thing that Toys for Bob went independent from Activision.
Pretty sure only reason that happened was MS couldn't legally close any Activision studios at the time

That is true but I'm sure as soon they get the chance, they'd close Toys for Bob and maybe High Moon

And yet Crash and Spyro are sadly within the hands of Microsoft and they're still gonna do nothing about it, like how they're doing nothing with classic Rare IPs
The Spyro 4 dream is dead unfortunately

you can emulate certain dos games on your tablet nowadays. magic dosbox is like 3 bucks but has a lite version that should work just as well. you'd just need to track down the games from that era to play. also certain titles can be done through the game streaming stuff which works as a decent compromise though i doubt you'd be interested in that.

a rushed out of desperation current year falout seems like hell on earth
New Vegas took 18 months. It would be utterly hilarious. Side splitting. To see Bethesda churn out a Fallout game with their team in 12 months. I could not even begin to imagine the depths of mediocrity and failure that they could achieve. And the new levels of astroturfing required to market the game.

Yep. It may be for the best as I wasn't personally impressed with Crash 4. On the other, just have the IPs fall under public domain
