With Tango, Mikami said shortly after leaving he wanted the younger staff to develop talent by making smaller games and Microsoft's statement makes it sound like they want to double down on shitty AAA games that take 18 years to make. Must have been a bad fit.

I don't think Sony or Microsoft understand their own business strategies anymore, either. The console market has destabilized on multiple fronts and it's going to be extremely difficult to predict how things shake out over the next 5-10 years.

I had the impression that they thought giving the developers they bought a shit ton of freedom was the choice to make because game journo and RetardEra were constantly bitching about how EA and Activision and Ubisoft ruin everything with interference.
But if that was the case, holy shit what a disaster cause they haven't been able to get anything out, let alone anything anyone who spends money actually gives a shit about.

as bad as this is, i'm sure every studio took these deals the last 5 years knowing they're on borrowed time. if it wasn't microsoft giving them the boot it would have been the studios themselves shutting down.
console gaming effectively died with the ps4/xbone generation. mobile took the casuals and PC the hardcore types. there were so few exclusives to force people to buy a system the way the 360 forced people who wanted to play halo or gears to buy it.
Sony did as best as they could with the ps4, but overall consoles are fucking dead. much like movies are, the costs and dev time for both vidya and film make it obsolete. there's a reason only the indies are thriving

If not for the closure of the studio, I wouldn't have any interest on the game. I just started it and it doesn't seem too bad, I just don't like the DMC type of gameplay mixed with the music beat timing, but I am willing to give it a chance and see if I click with it later on.

candy crush and PC games are free, You're looking at $70+ for console games. and its not the 360 era where everything is locked to one platform. Halo was notoriously shit to play on pc in the 2000s. We were already halfway through that gen before PC gaming and steam especially got normalized. for fucks sake barely anyone heard the term gpu when the 360 launched. by the time of the bone it was a standard part of any pc.
