XenForo 2

The user list, primarily. It's already got more features than the current chat.
Being honest with you, unless I'm missing something, I don't think the user list is that important. (To my knowledge) all it does is show you who has chatted in the past 3 minutes, which you can already tell by timestamps. Will the new user list have any other features?

Adding posting options to the chat is a good idea :like:, people who don't know the BBcode sometimes ask how to embed images etc.

It'd be useful if you could click names in the user list to reply to people instead of having to click names in messages. Would make it easier to not fuck up and click the wrong name.

Starting to feel like home.

What's your ETA on this actually getting rolled out to the live site?

I don't do ETAs. Stop asking.

One of the things I've had planned for a while is rolling out a list of media features we've had. I was going to hard template that into the new design but I figure I can do that one better by updating the quote rotation mod so quotes can be split into different lists.

I just quickly whipped up such a thing and will now template some media references we'd had into the design to show you what I mean.

Being honest the new discord style looks like it's gonna take up more screen real-estate, especially for individual messages (users posting only one line). Chat moves pretty fast fairly often and people commonly throw down one response and it's followed by a response from a completely different user. As soon as chat begins moving fast, messages are going to start flying off the screen much faster because the dividers and larger avatars are gonna be inflating things.

Even with that aside, I'd keep the old style too purely for originality as well as familiarity/nostalgia.

Edit: Old style, you fit 11 messages in 350 pixels (height). New style, you fit 8 messages in slightly over 350 pixels, in four different "groups" of messages. Discord style looks nice but I'd personally rather have more on screen.

Just discussed it in the chat that a nice feature for X2 might be something to prevent double posting. Say, if the previous post is yours and it hasn't been a certain amount of time (like 2 hours or something) you can't post. It'd force users to edit and not double post. @Ride mentioned that in a certain thread, it doesn't matter how much you merge and tell users not to double post, they all do it anyway.

Double posting for irony.

I'm working on boring stuff that isn't interesting to show off, but so far things are very tight and the code is running well. @ tagging is back in chat and I added a little hack to get it working in a vertical viewport with locked height.

And there's not a considerable height loss. There's certainly no 8 messages per viewport. In fact, even with new wasted space, the new chat saves space in instances where one person is submitting multiple messages.

I'm committing myself to breaking the entire site.

XF2 is out and has been out for a very long time, but I've not had the opportunity to upgrade the site because there are custom mods (notably chat) that I feel need to be implemented before I can do the upgrade and I can't work on those mods when I have to do shit for cash. Well now I have cash coming in thanks to the efforts of our benevolent Jewish Merchant's Guild and I can align my sights primarily back to the forum for the first time in 3+ years.

I'm forcing myself to just getting the update done and fixing things as we go. Shit'll be missing but as long as there's basic functionality and we can laugh at tards who gives a fuck.

I am forcing the upgrade February 24th, CWC's Birthday, regardless of readiness.
