Your first exposure to Chris

Like milkshark, through poetv.com. Forum members posted his videos as they were released, but at the time I generally disregarded them, since there was a whole lot of confusing backstory, and the world is full of weirdos. But after fifty or so fucking videos, I realized that there must be some reason why there was so much interest in this particular weirdo, and I made a deliberate effort to put the pieces together. I was floored to discover that folks had constructed an entire fucking wiki about this one guy. I spent four solid days reading it. I had never even heard of Encyclopedia Dramatica. This was mid-2011, and there was very little new content, but about a week later Tomboys and Tomgirls of Virginia was revealed.

Same here, but it wasn't until later that I looked into it.

It was cracked.com that had an photoplasty on weird internet subcultures that really got me started.
I remember that photoplasty. A lot of white knighting in the comments section as I recall.

Now that I think of it, the guy that first showed me Chris is dead now.

Huh. Anyway, he amused me the same way Tourette's Guy did.

I found CWC on a particularly boring night when I ended up googling "weird creepy web sites". Among other things, the search produced: sonichu.com, planecrashinfo.com/lastwords.htm, and a site about some crazy lady who likes to wear a creepy mask all the time.

Before Chris, I didn't even know what a "lolcow" is. I was sooo missing out.

Edit: To be overly specific, the google search led to a Reddit list which had those aforementioned gems and many more that I can't recall at the moment.

My friends and I, while looking through ED articles on lolcows, came upon CWC's page. Just.....everything about it was so.....beautiful to behold in it's car-crashiness, that we were just hooked. (This was around....I want to say 2012ish)

The Megan Sega, or around then...it was when the first pics of him in Barbs underwear came out and he drew Sonichu on his duck... I always wonder with each new development what Megan thinks or if she knows...

I think in 2009, a little before the Kacey saga. CWC's name came up on a podcast called Distorted View, and they played a few clips from the "Rape of Ivy" video. I looked up the video on youtube and was hooked from then on. (I distinctly remember being surprised that he was white because "Chan" made me think he was Asian.)

My first exposure was a Linkara video about comics he would never review and Sonichu was mentioned.

I only got into it when a friend mentioned him again and gave me a link to CWCwiki
Pretty much this, except I got into it immediately after watching that episode. I binge read the CWCwiki that night. That night being a few days ago.

My brother showed him to me around 5 years ago, or so. I thought he was a troll at first, but then I saw everything.

Saw his "article" on ED around 2009.

Was not interested.

Found the CWCKI in 2011. Was enthralled.

The horrow, the comedy, the sorrow, the many actual LOLs, the sadness.

Still hooked.

ED, in mid-2010. I don't remember how I stumbled onto CWC's entry there, but when I first read it, I thought, "Okay, it's just another troll/snark piece by those smartasses." Then I clicked onto the Sonichu.com link, and after some cursory reading, I realized that not only was he at least as repulsive, pathetic, and hilarious as the entry said he was, but that there was this bizarre Internet subculture of trolls, white-knights, and lolcow-junkies fixated on every last detail of his life. I once likened the OPL phenomenon to a three-way cross between A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES (classic early-1960s comic novel about a very CWC-ian antihero), THE TRUMAN SHOW, and DUMB & DUMBER.

Mine was a reddit post from about 14-15 months ago? it was talking about how dedicated trolls could be. Someone mentioned people had been trolling Chris Chan for 8 years, so i went and googled it..

TV Tropes. I was an addict (now somewhat less addicted) of the site, and I noticed Chris Chan's name popping up in a few articles. However, I never actually decided to take a look at his life until about May this year. I feel like I'm in too deep already, but I'm still really new to this whole thing.

Actually, seeing this in the "Random Thoughts and Questions" thread reminded me of this, but I guess my first exposure to OPL was technically reading his letter about Sprung in Nintendo Power when I was younger.
