Well, generic rapper #158 needs new rims on his Benz, yo!I saw some speculation that profits from concerts and sales were way down due to lack of concerts
Even if the code and all the devs were moved to Taiwan, the repositories (managed by American/EU companies) would be DMCA'd next.Heh, nothin' personnel, RIAA.Bash:apt source youtube-dl
That's easier said than done: https://www.debian.org/mirror/listEven if the code and all the devs were moved to Taiwan, the repositories (managed by American/EU companies) would be DMCA'd next.
Debian maintains that list. "Debian is a registered trademark of Software in the Public Interest, Inc."That's easier said than done: https://www.debian.org/mirror/list
Yes, and the youtube-dl source code is available through each and every one of the primary mirrors, and I imagine most of the secondary mirrors would have it as well. Don't forget that the source is on the youtube-dl website, too.Debian maintains that list. "Debian is a registered trademark of Software in the Public Interest, Inc."
Its an open source program, it needs a stable, centralized location for people to contribute to it at. A million mirrors only helps to distribute the compiled code, not develop it and patch it every time google changes how youtube works.Yes, and the youtube-dl source code is available through each and every one of the primary mirrors, and I imagine most of the secondary mirrors would have it as well. That's not really an issue, though. Even if RIAA somehow manages to get youtube-dl taken off of GitHub, someone would just have to set up a git server hosted outside of the US, and then it's back to business as usual. Its an open source program, it needs a stable, centralized location for people to contribute to it at. If?Even if RIAA somehow manages to get youtube-dl taken off of GitHub
However it's supposed to work, right now it's a big rape stick that puts an urgent onus on platforms to hedge against creative rights and it is not surprising Github has already folded.I'm fairly sure that this isn't how the DMCA works
And hosted outside any country that has copyright laws on par or stricter than the us.That's not really an issue, though. wtf I love China now?And hosted outside any country that has copyright laws on par or stricter than the us.
My point is that Youtube is the one hosting the material, youtube-dl is just a tool to download videos, so the onus is on YouTube for hosting copyrighted material. Youtube-dl is not branded as a piracy tool in any way. I'd wager most people techy enough to use it probably use it to edit actual videos. If?

Microsoft ain't about to eat that dick for these retards and their FOSS project. It folded immediately. If GitGud tried to eat that dick they'd get sued and I know the people running that can't afford it. Unless the EFF funds this it's over. Google also sometimes funds these landmark fair use fights, but - uh - there's an awkward relation between YouTube and Google which would inform RIAA negotiations with Google in terms of its current use of copyrighted music via Google Music / YouTube Red.

Well shit.
youtube-dl is a program I use alot![]()
Youtube-dl uses python though, you have to install it through pip on linux IIRC.Use Jdownloader2, it captures copying the link even.
Pros: easy to use, made in Java so it works on all platforms, lots of options for youtube like culling 2160p VP9.
Cons: Made in Java, made by german Linux spergs, there's some optional pay shit I don't understand and it's probably meant for porn.
