Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

I tried to say "Zenig(g)er" in a comment and I got banned from commenting for a day to "protect the community".

They must be using some software or AI to identify the words even when they are altered like that.
I went ahead and tested this myself since I have never gotten banned for posting "le hate sbeech" comments, and I didn't get banned, however I was greeted with this shitheap of a warning

As if the fucking gay little warning about how "we gotta keep our community respectful and safe, wholesome chungus 100, no fuckywuckys teehee~ ☺️" above the comments wasn't bloodboiling and rage-inducing enough, holy fuck I want everyone in Silicon Valley beheaded, skinned and burned alived. Fuck these safe, soyfilled faggots.

This isnt nothing new necessarily. The issue is that even if you give it some alterations, it can somehow still be detected. Now, one can say my attempt wasnt subtle enough but how many alterations can one make where its still understandable what you meant to humans but not to the frighteningly more intelligent by the day bot/AI? It will get to the point where they will be able to read intention good enough from comments like "The nose knows" or something. Fuck.

I miss 2000's/early 2010's internet, it truly was a magical place looking back.

This and the autodelete system is the reason I very rarely make a comment on YouTube. Sucks that they have to add restrictions to the comments section. And we all thought the Google+ integration was bad.

This is also a problem with fail/meme compilations. Beer? Blurred. Someone falls down? "No one was harmed." Someone does a backflip? "Do not attempt! These people are professionals!". Even if we go with the premise that some gen alpha kid would copy anything they see on YouTube, it still doesn't make any sense. Because it makes it seem that falling off a ladder and landing skull first on a flight of stairs results in no harm, but skiing should only be done by professionals as falling over in the snow could be lethal without proper training.

You can thank this culture of irresponsible parents with access to eager lawyers for a case. There is a reason most toys and meds and tools have "idiot warnings" on their labels or manuals or even inprinted on the product itself warning people to not do "X" and "Y", its because said things did happen and the darwin award winner either died or got seriously hurt (alive enough to sue).

Legal cases, even more than ever, go straight for the jugular, even more if they are Saul Goodman types who will milk said "tragedy" for every penny. Putting the "idiot labels" covers them legally from most cases with the "they were warned" argument.

There we go, it begins. They have officially developed a strike system for the fucking comments themselves now. 3 strikes and you are out.

It was either that or removing comments altogether.

It's a non-issue on a computer due to ad blockers, but if you're using something like a Roku, it's obnoxious as fuck, and considering it's voting year, the political ads have ramped up.
I've noticed this to, but in the UK, there doesn't seem to be many people advertising with them. Half of the ads seem to be for google products. (That "LOOK AT YOU NOW LOOK AT ME!" ad for a google phone is bloody annoying)

Every time, regardless of what content I may be watching, the third video from the top of the 'suggested' list is always some random absolute nobody with <15 views on a vaguely related subject.
I wouldn't mind that kind of discovery feature in theory. The problem is that it's always some "diverse" person making low effort content.

Probably the most retarded thing about YouTube is it's COPPA update.
Rip the original Fred Perry You Are A Pirate upload.

Is there even anything worth watching on YouTube now?
There's some, but the home grown spirit of much of it is missing. The closest these days are edited twitch streams like Asmongold and DustinEden.

Are there any old YouTube channels that are still around and put out worthwhile stuff? Most old YouTubers either had a decline in quality, had a limited shelf life (eg, YouTube atheists, Sarkeesian debunkers), or simply had a decline in relevance. But some have lost view count likely due to algorithm bullshit.

Recently I learned the music channels Diversity and Monster Cat are still going. Gone are the days when the songs they featured would get millions of views. There are loads like this. PewDiePie is still going albeit with less views, likely due to the bridge moment. JonTron puts out videos occasionally. Examined Life of Gaming was posting videos until 3 years ago. SFDebris, Linkara, Cinema Snob, ProJared all are (or were until recently) putting out content like they used to, but have either stagnated in viewership or have slowly dropped off.

I haven't watched most of these people in a while, but the few I've skimmed their recent works of don't seem that bad. I watch Cinema Snob occationally, and he certainly has that "guy with a webcam making whatever for fun" feel of old YouTube.

Others are debatable too. LGR, while I love him, seems more interested in weird hardware than software these days, which is fine (I love his old camera videos) but I kind of miss his themed months like LGR Christmas and Edutainment Month, and I think it's telling when I'm in the mood for LGR I tend to watch his old videos.

today i just found out that YouTube (on my PS5) is playing ads while I pause my video. now before anyone wants to be a smartass:
  • yes, i use brave
  • yes, i use instances
  • yes, i use adblock
  • sometimes i like using my console to unwind and watch youtube because i don't want to be on my computer 24/7
i know youtube is called jewtube for a reason but it sometimes amazes me how low companies are willing to go to shove another fucking ad into your face. i can deal with ads if im in the mood to deal with them, i usually just go on my phone or just report them but for the most part, they removed the "report ad" feature (it still shows up sometimes, i don't overly report ads but i usually do if there's some woke shit)

Imagine what would happen if suddenly there was absolutely no censorship on what you could say on youtube. I truly believe that many people would actually kill themselves if they could hear unfiltered opinions of them. It really sucks not being able to call someone a stupid fagget. Even the most mild insults get removed immediately.

So you mean very early Youtube? Things were mostly free and it all ran just fine...

That is until Google came about.

One of them is an instagram link, sorry!
I was too retarded to actually link the post. Here it is
Unrelated but does anyone remember demolition d/douchebag chocolat? He was a fairly popular anime reviewer during the early 2010s. I remember him leaving youtube due to frequent channel takedowns due to copyright. he resorted to streaming. I was going to say it seems like he's got a niche following till I looked at the view count of his vods. Some of them reach ten thousand but most don't break around five thousand. I don't know much about twitch or live streaming. Any ideas? View botting?

I notice my comments are getting shadow banned even when there arent any bad words in them. I get notifications from the thread (that happens when you comment in a thread) but then I dont find my comment.

I wonder if this is just Youtube being itself or if the fact I got blocked from commenting for a day left me with some sort of mark that makes my comments just get shadow banned nearly everytime.

Fuck I hate this site so fucking much

Nebula is dying.

The Nebula/Curiositystream bundle is no more. Nebula is now $300 for a lifetime subscription for a service that probably won't make it into 2025.

YouTube creators are complaining about their viewers not being able to comment, so I'd say it's a YouTube thing.
