Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Sometime this week possibly earlier the channel TheNightingaleOfficial was terminated from youtube.
This channel hosted a few ai generated hitler speeches translated into english which can still be found here on odysee.
Only found this out today because i put off archiving them locally, let this be a reminder to all to archive as soon as possible.

Looks like all remaining Invidious instances are down or nonfunctional now. Seems they are either getting "502 Bad Gateway" BS, and endless loading "operation time out" BS. Or the various "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot" or "content unavailable" error message BS. Looks like Piped has been down for awhile. So if you see a vid that will not play in youtube.com/embed/[code here] because "Video unavailable Watch on YouTube" BS, you most likely will not be able to watch unless you go to the main ad-ridden YT crapsite.

I can't begin to express my seething rage over YouTube's insane censorship of comments, the degree of bias and magnitude of triggers it sets for deletion is absolutely unreal. It's virtually entirely unviable as a platform, it's way too good at catching even heavily obscured wrongthink.

I hope the rest of the YouTube staff die exactly like that cunt Wojcicki.

So is Yewtube and Invidious as a whole just done? Been barely able to get it working with only a handful of working instances for days now.

Yeah, their censorship algorithm as gotten quite good in many ways, but what's strange is I'll have certain comments hidden or even outright auto-deleted even when they didn't have any sort of wrongthink in them. Completely mundane comments just get zapped into the shadow realm, while some of my spicier comments go through and are visible just fine. Makes no goddamned sense.

I think it doesn't just evaluate the post itself, but the user. Users probably have a hidden "score" of some sort which determines not only what they can say, but where, when, and how much. Wrongthinkers with low scores probably can't do shit usually, while an account in otherwise good standing can get away with more. That's my assumption anyway.

YouTube has been buggy recently; it acts like it's going to play an ad and even sometimes shows the yellow bar, and it starts videos at 15 seconds for some reason. Is there more adblock crackdowns happening?

Yes, it is actively trying to disable or remove adblockers on Chrome including already-installed ones.

Anecdotally I am seeing something similar on Firefox - more ads getting around my blocker and an uptick in 'please sign in to protect our community' screens on videos that are clearly not 18+. No idea what triggers it, even seemingly meaningless differences like whether it was accessed via a link on Youtube vs. clicking on the entry in browser history can change whether the 'please sign in' screen appears.

Edit to Add: Is there a good browser other than Firefox or Brave? Brave's use of Chromium makes it vulnerable to these crackdowns and the article linked above claims Firefox has been caught tracking users.

Edit x2: Sometimes a video will load without automatically starting, forcing me to click 'play' to start it. In vacuum that would be a non-issue but with everything else that is going on it sure looks like some kind of fuckery is going on under the hood.

Seems like youtube is fucking with the skip button now. Words cannot express how much i fucking hate subhuman youtube employees and their retarded advertisers.

"Google says ad monetization is one of the chief ways it makes money and helps creators get their rightful share."

Now thats a fucking lie and everyone knows it

I love how they keep moving the goalpost. Adblockers were the issue but now the skip button is too? It will never be enough for them, ever.

You do not hate Google enough, you think you do but you dont.

Can't find any articles on it but autoplay is also being set to 'on' by default for me, even if I turned it off in a previous session. Between that + messing with adblockers + recommendation quality being terrible now, a good chunk of the time all I see of the autoplayed video is a few seconds of the opening advert.

The sooner the tech + Commiefornia bubbles burst, the sooner humanity can be free.

Sometimes Google will flag your account and IP and force you to always login or force you to click on the "I disabled my ad blockers" button or whatever. They also have been flagging IPs that were using yt-dlp and throttling or banning them from accessing YouTube at all. A few years ago they would throttle your account and IP down to dial-up speeds if they flagged you as using a downloading tool. "Do no evil".

I almost always use a VPN, is it possible that most/all of the nodes on the VPN have been red-flagged for using YT-DLP due to other users' activity?

Failing that, if I use yt-dlp behind a VPN (not that I would do such a thing of course . . .) could Youtube see my True and Honest IP address despite the VPN?

Seems the remaining few Invidious instances are all down now: they either won't load at all, or get BS error messages* from YT.

Shouldn't be too surprised if the Invidious project is discontinued soon, with all the crap the advertisers are trying to pull.

* ("please sign in", "this helps protect our community", "content unavailable", etc.)

edit to add: And looks like all the other online frontends of YT are also blocked or nonfunctional in ways just like Invidious.

Marge, what is this?

Am I going to have to go back to simply downloading everything I want again? Yewtu.be still works for browsing purposes and that's all I need

PreserveTube and GhostArchive both seem to be shitting the bed. I don't know if that's related or just happenstance.
