I get targeted content for traveling and alcohol despite looking up neither, if I had to guess I'm getting profiled as a young adult male, and they are reccommending things based on that

i figure they have me for a weeb which makes sense since since i watched some things related to that, whats weird now is that is so specific, rather than other videos about the broader topic its several videos about specific franchises.

Yewtube and other Invidious instances are being targeted by Youtube again, this time they're disabling the videos and writing that this is for "the good of the community"

Google tongues my anus, I shall not be using Youtube as long as there are alternatives floating around(and other Invidious instances work for now), and even when they won't I would rather download every single video over actually going to that site. I can only imagine how the cattle actually uses it, with all the ads and targeted content lmfao

Just a fun thing I noticed: I'm using vivaldi and when I had ad blocking enabled, it blocked the "skip" button ON ADS, if you unblock ads it lets you skip them again. 14 minute unskippable ads resulted.

I really hope people just stop watching. Just stop fucking watching YouTube. I put on random videos all the time to listen while I work and stuff but if there's ads I'm not going to do it. I literally used to have YouTube Red/Premium, but I got rid of it because of the AdBlocker. I switched off YouTube Music for Tidal. I switched off Gmail for Protonmail. I'll switch off everything Google related if I have to. I'm not paying them anything.

As far as replacing the random YouTube slop I listen to, I'll find a way. I might just listen to more music or something.

Like Twitch is super aggressive with ads so I just don't watch. I never use Twitch, ever. I spend zero minutes a year watching Twitch streams. I can do that for other shit.

It does make me wonder, are they so far down in a hole (after that thing recently where they had been lying to ad-buyers about the placement/exposure/reach/etc of ads) that they are pushing both the manifest v3 (lobotomizing adblockers) and now the server-side ad infection shit.

I guess its a blessing that all of the YouTubers I watch are demonetized.

That said, even though people I recommended Brave to have occasionally gotten ads, I personally haven't seen a single one since I downloaded it.

One might well ask: how? This is kind of the nuclear option from the Tubes.

A dumb approach that might work: fingerprint every frame of the video into a small hash (that is 216,000/hour at 60 FPS). Once you get a miss, that's an ad sneaking in. But you have to distinguish between video and ads when you get these, so it might require multiple viewings by a bot.

If the ads are only inserted at specific times for everyone and those are visually indicated in the duration bar, or if there's anything to hook onto coming from YouTube that proves it's an ad, then it could be a lot easier to defeat. SponsorBlock time stamps could be fixed if there's any on-screen indicator for ad duration.

I don't have AdBlock on my Xbox for youtube (didn't find a way to install one) and it's really a nightmare. They have 30 to 40 seconds of ad before every video and ads during the video. Even for people who are demonetized sometimes. I just stopped to watch youtube on the TV via Xbox because it's not worth it. And if they manage to kill brave's protection I will reduce my youtube viewing a lot.

Internet advertising went from just banners on websites to this extremely intrusive clown crap in Current Year. With pop-up ads and adware along the way. I've despised it.

I find youtube is only bearable with an adblocker. I don't have any desire to give them money for the content they provide.

If they don't want me to use an adblocker, too bad. They went from one sensible ad on a video to 3, then they stuck them in the fucking middle of the video, (Midroll) regardless of how the video was made, then they just started injecting them in music playlists however they liked.

Fuck google. They can literally burn money, and instead they're doing this.
