Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Realistically any alternative would probably just need to charge people outright to upload or possibly to download videos, that's how Youtube should have been from the start.
Photobucket imploded from switching to this kind of model and now exists as a skeleton that randomly emails people about their old account being deactivated/deleted if they don't log in and pay up. Every fucking time I see a proposal about internet shit where "oh just make people pay money for it!" My mind just gets flashbacks to image hosting sites doing exactly that and fucking disintegrating.

due to economic pressures and attitudinal generational shifts long form content is fucked, and will be more and more fucked going forward. Change it up a bit or perish.
Interestingly, YouTube claims (claims, mind you!) that more and more watch time is coming from TVs as opposed to phones, at least for long form content. I know I mostly watch it on TV instead of my phone or desktop. Desktop is second, mostly if I need an informational video on something about a software or digital editor I'm using.

Facebook also has short form video, but I hate that fucking site. I've been interested in maybe using Tik Tok, but Uncle Sam is trying to kill it off, so who knows how long that will be available.

Guess I'm lucky, I've been archiving everything I watch for years at this point because at the time my slow internet speed made video watching nearly impossible, so I'd just watch locally. I even bought a big dedicated harddrive for it. And when I noticed shit getting butchered with after the fact with blurring, cutting out parts etc that youtube forced people to do to keep the video up I started archiving even sooner. Learned quickly that nothing is safe on that site, even shit that isn't even controversial. When the adblocker war started, I basically signed off youtube for good if adblocking became impossible. I got years worth of shit on my drive to watch when I'm bored, anyways. But I need to archive a few things that I forgot to do, so thanks for the heads-up.

I detest being advertised to. If I can't skip an ad, I just mute and let it have a quiet retard moment until what I actually want to see pops up. I wouldn't be harmed if I just cut YouTube entirely, place is shit. Guess I don't care enough either way, so I get to just watch the fire spread and consoom everything impartially.
This is kind of how I deal with it on the television and now (apparently) on my home computer. Back out of the video/refresh, over and over, until YT stops holding the video hostage and allows me to watch it. I don't care if that takes 20x longer than it would've taken to beam whatever garbage they're helping shill into my eyes, it's the principle of the matter.

I kind of love this because it wastes their bandwidth and processing power, just a little, as it tries over and over again to match you with an ad and serve it in a way they can count as a delivered ad. Fuck them, you're an ubermensch.

Brave still blocks ads, how long until it doesnt?

I'm getting occasional Youtube ads. So they are embedded? I had a bad feeling that was the case.
Who wants to bet that this is the beginning of the end of you-tube? This is the first domino that will cause people to give up on it.

Too many normies just use the official Youtube app to binge videos. They will never be smart enough to see the light.
I’m sure you know by now, but Brave doesn’t block ads anymore…IF you’re signed in.
My work around has been to sign in to see new videos from my subs, but copying the link into a incognito window to watch it.
Brave on mobile still blocks videos though, which makes me think that this is only being tested on the desktop side,

I'll try that. I only use desktop to watch videos.
how many people actually use adblock?
isn't it just a tiny percentage because most youtube watchers are retarded normies watching from their phones?

On mobile probably not that many. The average mobilefag will watch a two minute ad just to get to a 30 second video without even noticing how fucked that is.

Gentlemen.

It's 2024 and we are experiencing late stage YouTube. The economical situation of the United States and the world at large is forcing the largest companies to make sudden and drastic decisions to try and keep their income higher than their operating expenses, whereas in the past it seemed even the largest companies were happy to operate at a loss or with no profit for years. YouTube in particular had been terminally unprofitable for years, and it seems that pajeet CEOs are calling it: make some fucking money.
I understand why they are doing this. Making money is better than losing money, or breaking even.

Sadly, and I hate to say it, TikTok.

You can upload long-ish videos to it. Will the fine gentlebroccoli of TikTok watch? Well, that's for you to find out. But it is an alternative if you change up your presentation style and video length a bit.

There's also X.com, yes. Although run by one of the biggest idiots on God's green Earth you can upload shorter stuff to it just fine.

tl;dr due to economic pressures and attitudinal generational shifts long form content is fucked, and will be more and more fucked going forward. Change it up a bit or perish.
Short form videos combined with that specific UI gives you brain death mate. Fuck that.
Maybe after the backlash YouTube’ll get, they’ll wake the fuck up. Or maybe they will drop this ”experiment” before they make the actual change. Who knows. In the meantime, fuck this. Seriously, who even comes up with these things over there? And who agrees?

I noticed totalsize python3 utility is broken. It is stuck on a cursor and it isnt able to detect videos.
Has anyone found a working alternative?

It only gives you zoomer brain death if you allow it to. The way they use that shit in China is fine, it's just that the chinaman, who has absolutely no friends, only business partners, obviously has an interest in fucking the rest of us over so they win the Great Game.

He's also trying to use it to produce videos, not watch them. I would never recommend that anybody get on TikTok to casually browse the app without anything in mind, but a creator has to consider that there's a whole slew of dopamine deficient ferals in that shithole who could be willing to watch your content. They watch complete fucking slop like some schizo retard mumbling conspiracy theories into their dollar store mic, and onto 60% quality JPEGs so it's not really hard to get people to watch you there.

What if big youtube channels made tutorials on how to block ads on Jewtube in retaliation? So many of them are already crying about how they get screwed over by the algorithm.
The old joke also comes to mind of a realistically probable situation where someone searches "how to save someone from choking" on youtube and get served some unskippable ads instead of lifesaving information.
Bottom line is fuck youtube. ITs fall from grace has been long and ugly.
