Is the advertisement a 100 days Minecraft video? Honestly that's funny enough for me to give it a pass. A sloptuber forcing people to watch his videos is golden. Reminds me that a few years back the Lego movie was doing the same thing in YT ads. Although it was skippable.

I'm honestly surprised they don't have a regulation on how long ads must be to allowed on the platform, but then again I don't think even the FCC has any guidelines for it either except for children's TV.

I swear there was once a time I got one of those 60min ads a couple years ago and it didn't even show how long the video was. Luckily it let me skip it after 30 seconds but could you imagine being forced to watch an ad that long with no idea when it will end? Literal torture

YouTube now can show you 60-minute unskippable ads
I've powerleveled about this before but recently, I've noticed that my PS5 has been playing longer... unskippable ads. Like I've been getting forced to watch back to back 1 minute ad rolls every couple of minutes. You used to be able to just report the ads, but they've completely removed the option to do so.

Oh well, you fuckers want to play this game? TOTAL ADBLOCK DEATH.

Frustrated YouTube viewers seek explanation for hour-long unskippable ads (Updated: Clarification)

TL;DR
  • YouTube users are experiencing extremely long, unskippable ads, sometimes up to an hour long.
  • There’s a good chance that ad blockers might be contributing to the issue.
  • Google maintains that it restricts unskippable ads to a maximum of 15 seconds on mobile and 60 seconds on TV.
Update: January 27, 2025 (10:14 PM ET): We’ve heard back from Google, and the company offers the following statement:
The YouTube owner explains that normal non-skippable in-stream ads are limited to just 15 seconds in length. The company further acknowledges its efforts to detect users attempting to block ads, and its interest in discouraging them from the practice. If that still continues, Google reserves the right to disable playback. It emphasizes that this is a last-ditch response to the most incalcitrant ad blockers, but if that’s what it comes to, Google’s willing to cut them off.

The company further explained that some ad blockers can distort the playback experience, which is possibly why some viewers are experiencing extremely long unskippable ads. It pointed us towards YouTube’s ad format rules, which clearly state that in-stream unskippable ads on mobile are limited to 15 seconds in length and those on TV are limited to a maximum of 60 seconds. YouTube maintains that it does not intentionally serve unskippable ads that are minutes long, let alone an hour.

So basically they gave a non-answer and then pinned everything on adblockers...somehow (source: trust me, bro)

You dont hate this company enough, you think you do but you dont.
remember guise, ad blocking is piracy :smug:

remember, goys, adblocking hurts creators (that we constantly buttfuck through our awful algorithm and extremely vague and inconsistent rules)
Bet that would cause PR problems for Youtube though if people ran with the idea that was a real response. If they get enough heat for that it, they'll come out with "clarification."

Not sure what they would be worried about, google has boycotted the shit out of any major alternatives and normies will keep using them no matter what.

Bad PR is almost irrelevant at this point.
If someone tries to make me watch a 60 minute ad, I will kill them. I refuse to be hinged and sane about this.

Getting pissed is the hinged and sane reaction sooo...

Many companies are kept from doing this right away not out of a moral barrier but a practical one.

YouTube clearly wants to funnel people into Premium, but at the same time they are always increasing it's price, which is turning people away from it.
I enjoyed premium for ~$2 and personally wouldn't mind up to ~$5, but they are approaching $20 for a single account. The worst is though, that they seem to put more features behind premium that were free before.

Fucking NBC put up an entire episode of The Hunting Party as an "ad." I've gotten it a few times. Maybe some of you have as well.

Thankfully, that one is skippable after about a minute, but this shit is getting ridiculous.

60 minutes is not an ad, it's a long infomercial.

if you want something local i like yt-dlp interface now. used to recommend yt-dlp-gui but that is tragically dead now.

They literally shot themselves in the foot with a (confusing and unrelated) bot answer, and yet no one will care. Crazy world we live in.

On PC, I've had no issues with either Brave or other browsers with Ublock. That said, for Android, there's plenty of answers, depending on your tastes:
- Plenty of "Revanced" modded versions of that are functional, even if based on an slightly older APK.
- FOSS apps like New Pipe.
- Invidious instances and apps that use it as source.
- I believe some apps like AdAway are able to block ads on YT through VPN too? Not sure.

I think you get the idea, you literally only see ads if you want to. So many options and alternatives.
