He's gonna have a hell of time with Pokemon when this takes effect. Despite anyone in the know, knowing better, Pokemon is a child's market. It doesn't matter that the average age group is somewhere in their mid to late 20's; people see Pokemon as a kid's game.

I wanted to see if he was just being a scum bag and bombarding his vids with ads to off-set for lower views....is his channel currently completely demonetized? I turned off my ad blocker and clicked randomly throughout his first page of vids, while clicking on his pre streams--zero ads on all vids. Not even one on his pre streams and I thought he use to have 8 ads on those things in the past. Even did the same to 9 year old videos with the same results.

Anyone else getting the same thing?
YouTube quietly pushed through an update this summer that hides Ad Breaks in the video progress bar on certain web browsers. They haven't pushed this through on the Android App yet for example.
Not surprisingly almost no result pop up anywhere on Google searches about it, and on this thread the person with a 'Gold Product Expert' label is pretending that the user's problem is being unable to see ads as they are placing them in Creator Studio when clearly they are talking about watching YouTube videos, and they suddenly don't respond when the user clarifies when before they had been so gung-ho to help.

I just have to add, this sounds like every Microsoft Windows 10 "expert" (or many companies pretending to be helpful on Reddit). They are useless and a disgrace.

These changes are bothering him so much. :story: He has been talking about this and the content ID shit constantly the past few days.

I'm really looking forward to the moment when Youtube's system deems one of his videos as "content for children" or slap him with a warning/strike because he didn't label a video accordingly, causing him to miss out on add revenue. He'll be fucking livid, I bet.

Oh wait, no, he doesn't give a fuck about Youtube anymore, it's just an archive for his fans. I forgot, my bad. He'll probably be able to compose himself and be cool about it when it happens, not making himself look like a total assmonkey.

Oh, Pig will squeal and screech in narcissistic rage if it happens anyway, because he still wants all the money from all the sources. Plus his shitty channel is where his beggacy comes from, so losing it would probably make him drink alot purely due to the blow to his fragile and bloated ego. Plus he can then honk and snort to his base of literal re.tards that this bad thing happened, even if it minimally affected him because that's how all his cryfests and beggathons work, and then oink in greed as he makes more money than usual.

If Phil goes for the children entertainer's route he'll just go "STOP LIVING IN THE PAST DOOD THAT WAS THEN AND THIS IS NOW!" or something equally exceptional then go on as if nothing had happened.

Oh he's always got some bullshit ready to pull off. He's like that one kid who always keeps changing the rules just so he doesn't lose in a game. DSP really hates losing.

Pausing the game to read donations? The world's not black and white.

Getting a review copy despite bitching about everyone who gets them? It's a dog-eat-dog world.

Halloween event failed? It's the nigger's fault.

Memeology's latest video has Phil talking about the change, including wrongly summarizing it as "youtube was showing the wrong ads to kids" not what it actually is in that targeted ads are illegal to use on children. As always our valedictorian totally understanding everything perfectly. So much of what he says in his little rant is so wrong. Of course he's going the "I'm not a children's entertainer" route, this may get interesting.

It's funny how he says other streamers color their hair or make dumb faces on their thumbnails thus they are advertising to kids. He does realize he has thumbnails on dspgaming of his fanart so kids may think this cartoon phil is "funny" thus he just advertized to kids. Also his kogaming channel has plenty of cartoon phils and phils making weird faces. He is truly an idiot about his own industry and job. Also i love how nowhere on his twitch or youtube channel it says his content is not meant for kids. Hell on twitch you can put the option of 18+ to notify viewers that your content isnt for younger audiences but he doesnt put that option on. So technically phil is admitting he is advertising to kids. "Im not a childerns entertainer" my ass lol

Don't worry, I'm here to save Phil and paint his future excuses.
EH HEHE. Excuse me.
He hasn't created those lazy cartoony fanarts, his fans did, therefore it says nothing about his real content. He just uses what his fans offer to him.
He also doesn't make weird faces, debunked! But those other content creators do that on purpose and with malicious intend.
Also it's quite obvious his khantent is not for kids if you watch his stream for just 5 minutes.
PS: Pledge today.

Of course Phil wouldn't admit his content is targeted towards children, he prides himself to be a mature adult business man (exactly what nobody wants for a chill fun livestream). And I agree! His toxic content isn't fit for anybody, neither kids nor adults. Parents shouldn't stick their childs to Phil, the man who shakes a virtual baby to make it stop crying.
Educational mandate, Bildungsauftrag, either Phil wants it or not but he has a responsibility towards those growing little humans and he has the potential to ruin them, if he hasn't already.

The toxicity alone will prevent any demonetization. He could play a literal baby game and nothing would happen. The magic of being a disgusting prick.

COPPA specifically says it's illegal to knowingly collect data on people under 13. That's exactly what they got nailed for.
No it doesn't, it does allow collection of data for under 13 year olds, providing a consent is provided by parents/legal guardian. Now, how one would implement a workflow for getting this consent is a different can of worms and not an easy problem to solve.

DSP is going to get destroyed by this new coppa law and he isn't taking it seriously at all because he spends almost all his time streaming and isn't putting thought into it, it doesn't matter how you mark your videos (he just marked his entire channel as not for kids and thinks its over lol) and it doesn't matter what your content actually is. It just matters what the FTC person checking your video thinks, and if he is playing minecraft with a goofy outfit on he is boned. He can get a fine of 42k per video and he splits his videos up bigtime.

Youtube have pushed all the risk onto the video uploaders, and the fines are insane.

DSP has spent his entire career (probably life) trying to get around things because of technicalities.

He probably thinks "it's not children's content dood; I curse!"

One day, there's going to be a mass classification of all videos like Pokemon and Luigi's Mansion 3 as "children's content" and DSP is going to be completely blindsided by it and call out those book-smart Youtube developers and their stupid automated algorithm for fucking him over.

It's funny because he chose the worst possible way to go and it's all because of ego. I mean all that we know points to him not making much on youtube anyway, so really he should just take the hit and label his channel as for children. Still, I expect Youtube to start flagging his videos as for children against his will with their algorithm before the FTC come knocking.

I watched Pixel Dan explain this (he has tons of videos of action figure reviews) and he was shitting it because most of his videos even though they are technically filmed for adult collectors will absolutely get 6-10 year old frothing at the mouth - which makes it kiddies content.

daves options as I see it:
  1. Play it safe: Manually go through his video archive (lol) and if something looks like it might be kids content - mark it as kids content and demonetise those videos .
  2. Go full entitled DSP: Take to twitter and rant about how his content has always been for adults - no exceptions., and that these no brain moron trolls at the FTC have no clue how to run a company and that he is not liable for any fines.
He's so fucking GREEDY and LAZY I think we all know what is going to happen.

I can not (Repeat: CAN NOT) wait for this to hit dave like a sack of bricks - he is a lazy fuck and it gets him into shit situations all the time which he always seems to somehow wriggle out of.

Remember gay operatives, COPPA/FTC could really use those TIPS right now. HINT, HINT.
