"Zero Punctuation" and "Dev Diary" by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw - The only thing worth watching on The Escapist

So I just watched the "Adventure Games Never Died, They Just Stopped Being Good", and while I appreciate the distinction between computer and video games of the 1990s, he acts like they just merged together, instead of the "computer games" portion dying off--all the M&As, bankruptcies, and corporate shakeups...and doesn't really go into the "stopped being good" part, only going into the transition into 3D, but missing other nuances, like how having four CD-ROMs was annoying or why Telltale's games were incredibly weak, even in their prime.

Just wanted to hop in and say this British "person" is a dumb cunt who no one should have ever listened to when all he ever made was a bunch of shitty point and clicks. Also a hypocritical loser who retracted on jokes even though his whole shtick is being a super cynical and caustic "comedian". Anyways, that's your over 2 week later bump for this thread, see ya.

Nigger nigger spic chink wap gook kike? He walked that back? I thought he just never mentioned it again

Nah, it had to do with transgenders. Twice, actually, though only one he edited out, which was a joke involving "pre-op transsexuals".
Do you know which episode it was? Is it unedited on the Escapist website or did they censor it there as well?

YouTube I get, you poke fun at a tranny, you're fucking gone, but it makes no sense to do it on their own site as well unless the entire site is full of tranny supporters.

Consider the fact that two of their most known prominent members/former members are British. You have your answer there. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if The Escapist is based in the UK now, with how much Anglo filth accumulated on the site's domain over the years. It was the Papers Please/Tales of Two Brothers episode. Both of the transgender comments I mentioned appeared in that same episode. The pre-op one was the one edited out. As an aside; I've discovered our hotshot game reviewer here grew up with the goddamn Commodore 64, so his opinions definitely don't mean shit, lol.

Was it this?

Sigh. Yahtzee here is a guy I'm an on-again off-again fan of. Like others have said its nice he hasn't really changed all that much.

Someone somewhere compared him to Jim Sterling. I don't know what that person's problem was, but my own is that both can get irritating/depressing to listen to after awhile. The first time you hear a caustic game takedown with a snide rant about the games industry, its funny. But after you hear it 20+ it becomes soul crushing and probably inspires An Hero somewhere.

As such the absolute worst ZP videos to watch are his compilations of a full year's content. By the end you need to binge Rainbow Brite and David the Gnome just to get your head back into a normal space after hours of listening to doom and gloom largely offered up as game reviews.

Basically, if you watch ZP, only ever watch one or two videos a day, and maybe only stick to the videos on games you're interested in.

Also I'm glad he's one of the few people who makes fun of horror games instead of trying to pretend they're legitimately creepy. Everyone else I looked up said nothing but good things about the Remothered games.

I think reason why people said good things about those games, is because they are remiscent of the Clocktower games. Like, seriously the last attempt at a Clocktower gane we had is that weird one that takes place on a ship.

It's called Night Cry. According to that one GDQ speedrun, its horribly broken.

Which itself is a sad trend... people who once made good games getting crowdfunding to give the fans more, but then somehow shitting the bed. Insert a "Mighty Number Two" joke here. It really makes you think a lot of such projects are nothing but has-beens trying to reclaim former glory.

Well, the thing with Night Cry is this was originally a phone game that was later ported rather badly on the PC. I cannot remember where, but I believe the Kickstarter campaign was about porting this from phones onto the PC.

This week's episode on both Card Shark and Postal: Brain Damaged is probably the peak of Yahtzee's increasingly outspoken political commentary.

"No games are politically convenient to target anymore." and "Nothing will shock people anymore because there's so many school shootings." sure are some spicy takes.

That was typical whiny Yahtz you mostly saw around 2011-2013. The real fucking stickler was him complaining about furries being made fun of.
It almost made me want to buy the damn game despite POSTAL 4 being a giant dog turd and Brain Damaged looking pretty dodgy.

Postal Brain Damaged is full-on nihilism? Are we sure he ain't mixing it up with Postal 1 or Hatred? Because from what I played of Brain-Damaged it's just going into the Dude's screwy head while the game is a sort of watered-down version of Painkiller rather than Doom Eternal.

Problem is GTA is very much part of the establishment and for all the edge, it amounts to nothing more than "Everything sucks" brand of political humor and not willing to go after the really juicy targets who threatened their income. When you are rich and share the same Publishing umbrella as a cuck and miserable shell of a human being who drove a game to the ground and then come back with another title that kept their company is business there isn't much to draw controversy from anymore.

I mean for all the controversy GTA and Postal caused, there are no achievements for deliberately killing civilians, only people who can shoot back.

The only thing left controversial are mobile games and mobile games with the audacity to allow tits and revealing outfits because sure as hell the West is going full on dry state with a neo puritan/phobition on anything remotely arousing as the horny and impotent generation turn to the equivalent of wood alcohol mixed with carbonated sewage water or overpriced watered down beer to get their fix.

You should try Postal: Brain Damaged if you’re interested in boomer shooters. I’ve played a lot of games in this category and it’s decent. It’s more fun to play than any of the actual Postal games and not nearly as janky.
