"Zero Punctuation" and "Dev Diary" by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw - The only thing worth watching on The Escapist

@Sawamura Simp
Come on bro, if you watched these back to back(like I sometimes do) you would know that every other video he makes a le hitler bad joke, even when it barely makes any sense. He's asshurt about him, just like he's asshurt about JK Rowling, which he made very clear in that Hogwarts video and he's the low hanging fruit of boogeymen/strawmen. No need to cherry pick a few different reviews where he makes safe-edgy jokes that go against the flow, but I will clip that (((rat))) video, thank you very much.
I preferred the XBLA Double Bill review era of Yahtzee- The "also I think Hitler was right" Yahtzee.

Man this sucks. I actually still watch Yathzee although he has lost bite in comparism to his older episodes. Hopefully he comes back in another form

where a taco restaurant chain was a clone of its competitor (Taco Cabana Inc. v Two Pesos Inc.), because in real life making a palette-swapped copy of something with just a few minor changes is enough to get you shut down by the law.
Did you even read the specifics of the case you're citing? We're talking about a specific art style, not a branding suite. If Yahtzee appropriated The Escapist's logo, color palette, and house style (fonts, etc.) into his new series in an deliberate effort to confuse the half-dozen fans of The Escapist, then this might be relevant. The Escapist can't claim ownership over little geometric blob figures.

One interesting thing about the art-style mess is that half of the images are already ripped from google.
Yahtzee will probably get away with a different coloured neon background. This time likely with some "texture" to make it more legally distinct. He's also probably smart enough to still imply that it's an indeterminately sized void/space.
I'm personally interested in whatever he replaces the imps with. IIRC he was pretty fucking proud of them.
Yahtzee could also probably get a lot of milage out of the "shaped like itself" excuse. IE: "I'm simply drawing in my regular art-style"
This worked for Lauren Faust against Hasbro regarding all the designs she did for TFH. (Although she had a much larger catalogue of similarly styled work.)

Why is yathzee following that fired editor? That retard deserved to be fired.
At least just go solo instead of joining up with them, why work hard just to share your earnings with 10+ talentless faggot scum instead of working for your own family.

I have always wondered how these gaming publications can support having so many people working under them, even though they are essentially a dying form of media. I know that The Escapist have like what? four different ways to donate? But is there some rich guys just throwing money at these gaming news sites like they do with traditional newspapers?

Did you?

It's not just a "specific art style", if Yahtzee went with a 5-7 minute format video talking about video games in his trademark style of reviewing (crude humor, etc.) then that could very well be an infringement of trade dress, depending on how much of a problem the Escapist wants to be.

Go ahead and check their front page with your adblock off, it's grotesque. I can't imagine they are making a ton of money, but I doubt anyone was demanding that much either.

Yahtzee has literally carried the site on his back for the past 15 years. I think he's said that basically the only reasons he stuck with The Escapist is because they have the rights to ZP, they handle all the financial work- and most importantly- they give him complete creative control. If they have been fucking with the last bit, it probably didn't take much for him to pick up and go. He basically IS Zero Punctuation, he has the luxury of taking his fanbase with him, even if he doesn't have the IP.

I've always thought his "imps" bore a more-than-passing resemblance to the little background guys who appeared in the Hell sequences in South Park, a few years before the first Fully Ramblomatic videos. In fact, I think I had just assumed they were borrowed from there. This episode aired in 2000.

I honestly thought Yahtzee had ownership stake in The Escapist as I knew it existed but didn't really know anyone who worked there besides him in the last decade. Kind of retarded of him to not take some stake and basically be nothing but a dude that can be axed at any point, the guy must have no ambition.

I mean, he has a rich wife he can prob mooch off. He can write his books (that nobody outside of his cockwarmer fans will read) and make games (which he'll either have to put on steam or swallow his ego and try GoG again)

I don't know who did it, but I remember someone talked about his first book ages ago and it was mentioned that it was ok but just became uninteresting as it was too dense with that always on snarky humor that doesn't lend itself to long format story telling.

I've only read Jam, and it was fiiiiiiiine. I think he mentioned (I think in let's drown out) that he knows he's not going to make bank off of them

Its not even the snarky humor, its basically Yahtzee rehashing his best moments from his reviews, while rambling his hatred about WoW with his smart ass self-insert always being right, while anyone who acts differently is treated like they're the village idiot.

And yet with the amount of shilling he does for them, it kinda gives an impression he is hoping to make bank and become this generations Terry Pratchet or Douglas Adams.
