I remember back in the day an Australian i knew introduced me to both the Escapist and Moviebob in one fell swoop. That was a huge fucking self report in hindsight. Even back then Yahtzee was the only one worth anything. I swear this is like the third time I've heard that it died though

It died when Yahtzee left as he was literally the only thing still driving any traffic to the page(mostly just the youtube channel)
Died again when their youtube channel got taken over by some gambling bullshit
And after struggling along on life support, now it's officially just AI garbage even though it's likely been that for months already anyway.

The gaming journalism "industry" of the past in general is in shambles. The Internet contributed to the death of the magazines and Youtube destroyed a lot of the appeal the dedicated gaming journalist websites had.
No, they earned it. People lost complete faith in game journalism as any people who legitimately liked gaming was replaced by failed journos who couldn't suck cock well enough to get into actual journalism. Add to it articles written to appear in google (lots of words and links for the sake of it), reviewing based on whether the game is made by Nintendo/trannies, and political opinions no one asked for (regardless of political orientation).

The Escapist is now officially dead. All staff has been sacked and it will now post only AI generated slop. If SecondFart's situation wasn't so pathetic and dire, I'd call that a win for Yahtzee. But he's on the chopping block.
It's crazy how many years The Escapist got carried on Yahtzee's shoulders, i never watched anything on there apart from ZP back in the days. IIRC i tried watching some non-Yahtzee content over there exactly once and it was utter tripe.

Only Non-Yatzee thing I viewed on The Escapist was an article that talked about how Anita Sarkesian maybe isn't a bad guy but more of a good guy.

That pretty much says it all, really.

That's what they get for firing the King of Kino.

You're next, Lindsay. #BobMob

Balatros a good phone game, it's like pvz but a bit more complex.
What the fuck? Balatro is a card game where you make different poker hands based on a huge variety of assorted enhancements, and Plants vs. Zombies is a tower defense game where you defend your house from zombies with plants in your front lawn.

Game journalism really demonstrated just how many people are employed in the industry who do not actually enjoy video games, but are just there to push a message.

When your only experience with mobile games is pvz, anything is gonna feel like a more complex version of it without a frame of reference

I meant in reference to the casual repetitive nature of both. They're both casual games with only one or two simple mechanics mechanics but having gameplay variety through many situations. Balatro feels like a popcap game, is what I meant, it feels like something designed for mobile, a time killer game which does not require investment like say a jrpg or a strategy or something similar.

Its only a matter of time until people fully loses interest with the shit he has to say.
It's a wonder he's lasted as long as he has tbh. I used to refresh his page on The Escapist every Wednesday til his new video appeared, now I only look up Fully Ramblomatic if I want to hear what he thought about a specific game I just finished.

In his defence, Current Year games are 99% '7/10 it's okay' so it must be a struggle to come up with original ways to say 'this shit is boring'.
Did they just hope a couple existing names would carry them or were they just incompetent retards?
The site was already sold off years ago, long before the mass exodus of Yahtzee and co but after Jim Sterling had left and Moviebob had been fired. Once they started putting ZP on YouTube there was no reason for me to go to the site so I have no idea what they've been putting out to keep the lights on this long.

Speaking of the YouTube channel, it is an absolute trainwreck since the Second Wind drama. All they upload now are gambling compilations that get a couple thousand views, despite the channel still having over a million subs.

Their last actual gaming video, about Black Ops 6, was uploaded in August 2024.

I know it's basically rubbing salt on a rotting wound of a week old horse, but if you take a closer look at those three thumbnails, you will notice they are like mutated, retarded triplets.

2nd and 3rd are basically identical with swapped thumbnail soyjaks, but all three use the same background.

The problem is he doesn't have an idea of what a good game is anymore. Not even in terms of taste (which has gone down the drains, Yahtzee 10-15 years ago never would've entertained the idea of Animal Crossing with a straight face), if it's too easy he'll complain about it ("it just throws upgrades at you") and if it's too hard he'll bitch about poor design and pretended he played through it (actually watched it on YouTube).

I am just waiting until all the legacy gaming videos get pushed off the first page and it's nothing but gambling soyjak thumbnail slop. That's when the company will be truly dead and so will it's legacy. Since the last gaming video is that of Black Ops 6, we can blame that horrid game for killing off The Escapist for the lulz.
Unteralterbach. In the ending, several Kiwis find the devs and lynch them for being pedo fucks.
Oh god, why did you have to remind me of @MarkM 's favorite game? Day ruined.

What game should Kiwi Punctuation review?
He got his suspicious beginning with a couple of reviews of bad game, right? KF could do a five minute shot on one of the recent failures like highguard for episode 1 and then something halfway decent from the more indie developers with things to both praise and also say crap for episode 2.
