DarksydePhil / TheyCallMeDSP / Phil Burnell - General Discussion

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.

I'm aware of that but Phil has this uncanny ability to big himself up and making himself seem like he's God's gift to Earth. Remember when he first switched to Youtube and had extended Twitter conversations with the Youtube support bot on Twitter thinking he's talking to an actual human being? He even told the bot to follow him on Twitter for more robust advice on how they should run their site :story:

Not to mention, when Youtube finally added subscriber-only mode (equivalent to follower-only on Twitch) a few months ago Phil was sucking himself off on the following prestream and claimed that he was single-handedly the reason they added it since he suggested that feature to the Twitter support bot and that Youtube follows him, listens to him and loves him and his streams and his expert business advice.
People speculate whether Phil will return to Twitch as soon as he'll be able to apply for affiliate. I personally think he will, but in either case if that happens Phil will make up some wild story where he'll make it seem like Jeff Bezos himself sent a behind-the-scenes apology email and interaction, bent the knee and kissed the ring. So yeah, Phil will never get an apology from Twitch but he'll make it seem like he did if he ever runs back to Twitch.
A lot of the twitch speculation comes down to one question: how long before he goes back on his word once it becomes available? He has repeatedly said he won't ever go back but will his greed or ego win out.
That's absurd. Phil is an absolute pussy, he's not going to hurt anyone, he isn't capable of it. Much more unstable lolcows are fucked with way harder and haven't gone postal on their loved ones. Even proper nutters like Boogie literally won't pull the trigger. The idea that Phil is going to suddenly lock him and his "family" inside and chimp out is just mental.
Boogie did pull the trigger, just not aiming at the idiot. With Phil, I'd argue that he's more likely to run home and crawl into a corner begging the horse and cat to not leave him. Phil isn't physically abusive but there is a case he may be psychologically abusive. Look at his wheelchairs, their behaviour is like that of an abuse victim, only they can easily walk away if they wanted to.

but there is a case he may be psychologically abusive
Only when there's two computer screens and some number of miles separating him from the other person. He would not say anything like what he says on his hugbox stream in person.

Edit: Also, re: fucking with Phil--do what you want. Just don't try and plan it here ("No trolling plans. We are not an autistic Illuminati. If you embarrass yourself or the forum trying to troll, we will ridicule you."). Similarly, if you're going to brag about doing something, be prepared to be mocked if it's not as awesome as you think.

Phil has ruined the word and meaning of chill for me. It is painful how much he uses that word to describe extremely unchill streams.

Phil should be more honest and label his streams as “toxic, hostile, childish, and disturbing”.

Anyone else got a word or phrase that has been forever scarred due to Phil’s stupidity?
Support.

Do you guys think Phil will leave his "member's" mics unmuted?

Or do you think it's going to be another mute straight away and goat laugh when they die situation.
At this point? When even his paypigs call him out on his shit, he's gonna want to mute the shit out of them. Also he won't want them upstaging him a third time.

Whether you get mad whenever he gets money or not, one thing never has or will change - that money goes to self-indulgence. Pulls, Total Wine and DoorDash is the way he's chosen to go. I'd get it people getting mad if he was doing a walkthrough video of his new Lamborghini, but the reality is that he fucks himself over every day.

His physical health sucks, his mental health is worse, despite him claiming his life is amazing at the end of every year, he is fundamentally incapable of saving money, so everything that happens to him IRL is an emergency, even before he even knows how much it will cost (just like the shower).

If you've seen his recent rants, it's just a boomer spiraling out of control. This is peak Dave activity, and it keeps getting better.

Why would you get mad at him? He's doing exactly what a lolcow does - he keeps getting worse and gives the community funnier clips to make fun of.

So yea, IMO, the bottom line of the fact of the truth of the matter is that, I'd argue, no amount of money will make him happy, he's not happy currently and hasn't really been since about 2-3 months after he moved to WA (which was basically the peak of his life), and he's claiming his life is amazing just to spite you. And if it works, and his arrogance and fake flexing is getting to you, it will be better for you to take a step back and look at the bigger picture, which is a fat, unhealthy man, miserably stumbling through his life while people support his toxic and self-destructive habits.

Don't get his discussion of "trolls win" or "we win" distract you from the fact that he has lost this entire time, because for you and me, he's a fat man on the internet, and for him, this is reality.

There's no winning for him, there's no retirement, there's no comfort. He goes to bed every night (probably) drunk to be able to sleep, deals with insults every day, and sits on his stream every single day, knowing that he directly depends on these people who insult him, or actual wheelchair individuals, so he can continue with his life.

And all this for a job we're allegedly "jealous" of?

I'd rather flip Ch'king Burgers all day than this. There's more dignity in it anyways.

TL DR - FILL is a miserable loser, is absolutely determined to continue being one, and doesn't need extra help to be such. He's destroying himself, therefore no need for you to go out of your way to be salty about it, or to try and help him. He's already lost the game he decided to play, and he picked a difficulty too high for his skills. Your "let's laugh at Fill" is his reality, and generally, DSP is taking the L every day of his life - and we get to see it live in 360p webcam quality.

:story:
You are now my spirit animal :feels:
Since Perry Caravello has overlap with some detractors, here's some funny news. Perry got banned on Twitch recently, however the ban got overturned today and would you look at that, Twitch apahlagized to him!
View attachment 2639612
And yeah, it's a boilerplate apology that's probably automated and sent by a bot, but you just know that Phil got it he would be creaming his pants and would sell it on stream like Jeff Bezos himself realized that Phil did nothing wrong, he did everything correct and personally apologized to him and told him that he loves him and his streams.

So yeah, big ups Perry for getting a formal written apology from Twitch while poor little Phil is still waiting for one :story:
Perry is an international treasure. While I like to watch him to point and laugh it's in a very different way than the way I do with Phill.

Perry can show actual gratitude and non selfish emotions. A while ago he bumped into a fan in a 7-11 while dressed like an egg, and the sheer joy that he got out of that short interaction was so wholesome that I had to do some push ups and shoot a gun to removed the gay emotions.

At some point Phill will end up doing Perry like streams but it will be another beast entirely, much less dignified (yeah I said that) and even more dumpster fire like than his current ''gameplay'' streams.

Phil should be more honest and label his streams as “toxic, hostile, childish, and disturbing”.

To tell you the truth is probably one of the biggest but it really just lets us know when he's about to let a big fat lie.

Mate that reminds me of the Viscant story. That just shows what a pussy Philip is.

To quote the best "Phil is a pussy story" ever for people that might not know it. Enjoy the long read, it's well worth it.
The TL;DR is Philip wanted to fight a guy and pussied out, begged the bloke behind the scenes to not fuck him up.
Viscant
I'm trying to remember how the whole thing started and I can't. This would have been either Evo 2005 or 2006 because I was working out at some hole in the wall Mexican boxing gym at the time and I quit that place in July 06 when I moved away.
I know a money match was involved and I know Phil had been talking trash for weeks/months before I finally got sick of it. I'm PRETTY SURE favorite55 is right that I challenged him to a money match and knew he wasn't going to accept and was going to be like "lol fite me irl at evo" and I accepted. I can't remember what the game was because even though I was thoroughly washed up at MvC2, he had literally zero shot at me in that game. Mixup 10-0'd him at ECC and he wouldn't have done any better on me. CvS2/3s he stood about the same chance as Marvel. If it was ST I don't know why he would decline because even though I was good at that game, that's the only game he was relevant at on a national level so there's no reason for him to decline. Anyways, that part's not important. It started over a money match challenge that I and everyone else knew he was going to bail on.
From here it turns into what sounds like a total farce except I can assure you that it was 100% serious which makes us both look like total, complete fucking idiots.
So first Phil was like "OK well you have to sign some document because if I kill you I don't want to be responsible" and I was like whatever. Then there was an actual serious negotiation over who the ref was going to be and I THINK we settled on Walter from CT but I don't remember this part either. Then there was an honest to god negotiation over weight and that we were going to have to weigh in and everything. Again, I'm not making any of this up, as dumb as this sounds, this absolutely happened. Finally it was agreed that he wouldn't have to go on a diet to fight me and it was settled that we were going to fight, it was going to have MMA rules, it would have a referee and we'd sign waivers. God I was dumb in the mid-00s.
Anyways, so we agreed upon this early in the year and from here on is where the story gets weird (lol "gets" weird). So apparently Phil was under the impression that this wasn't going to happen and that it was just internet shit talk but a few people from the west coast went out to one of the east coast tournaments and told him that
a) I was taking this seriously and was going to fight him
b) Had probably been in more gym fights in the past 2 months than he'd been in in his life.
So one day Phil IMs me on AIM and tries to back out. He was like "hey so how about this. How about we PRETEND like we're going to fight and then when a whole crowd is around us we both do DX crotch chops to the crowd!!! It'll be such a goof!" This really happened.
And I'm just like "...are you fucking kidding me?" I honestly couldn't believe he was pulling this and I was still mad about the whole thing and actually wanted to fight him.
I told him wasn't going to do any of that "trolling" but if you want to drop it, then fine I'll drop it, we can be adults about this. And that's pretty much what happened, I'm not going to jump him from behind in the parking lot or get in his face and threaten him.

It seems like we've had yet another return to the autistic slap fights about what "the right way" to troll Phil is (I'd guess we get them every month or so). I think it's worth noting that we technically have four separate detractor communities all simultaneously existing on this forum, which probably lends itself to the periodic name calling and hair pulling we get to enjoy. Below are those categories with helpful descriptions and examples of community members that tends to get large amounts of positive feedback on their posts and (imo) are the strongest example of their camps. The categories have been spoilered to avoid cluttering up the page.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that the majority of people that follow Phil are watching him waiting for some kind of karmic justice. As the thinking goes, sooner or later, Phil's evil deeds will catch up to him, he'll lose his money, job, house, wife, and cat and on that day, cosmic balance will be achieved. This is the camp that tends to have extremely precise trolling boundaries, because while Phil is a scamming bastard, trolling in the wrong ways can lead to losing the moral high ground; a self-aware person can't both hate on Phil for being evil and defend a worse evil in reaction to Phil. Many people in this camp tend to burn hard and burn out- if you've been around here long enough, you start to see the pattern of people that post obsessively 15 times a day for a month and then completely vanish, only to be replaced by a matching set shortly after. I suspect such people find Phil to infringe a set of values that is deep-seeded in Western culture, particularly those affected by the Protestant work ethic: that the righteous are rewarded and the guilty are punished. While some have theorized that the frustrated rage that manifests at Phil is jealousy, *I would argue*(tm) it stems from a clash of personal philosophy with impartial reality- "My brother is a good person who loved his family and and died at 27; why does this fat toxic idiot continue live as a cancerous wart on society?" It's not envy that drives that sentiment; it's existential crisis which can manifest as 10 MATI posts in as many minutes. All that said, while such things are difficult to gauge over the internet, it seems like people approaching from this angle probably have the most normal and human reaction to the vortex. Attempting to hold standards and not reveling in chaos and misery purely for its own sake is probably what keeps this forum from becoming the glorified monkey house that was the subreddit or some of the more notorious discords; hell, lack of a moral compass is probably what pulled SoK into the running joke it became. Or maybe we're all just autistic faggots and it was destined to happen regardless of who and where.

Future Goals for Phil: Terry A. Davis

Technically, this is what this site is entirely made up of, but how much seems to vary from thread to thread and in Phil's
case, it seems to be closer to the exception than the rule. Typically, these are the people that argue the strongest against any kind of trolling- the running idea being that Phil will always give himself enough rope for any given hanging without any need for help from the community. The interest is a little more varied than the previous group- some are here for laughing at a garbage fire, some for being astounded at the train wreck and some to write autistically long posts psychoanalyzing Phil (or worse, his detractors) in an attempt to understand the monkey by granting deep motives to his type writing and poo flinging. The connecting point is treating Phil and his community as a zoo animal ("Look, don't touch") and can bring a chorus of boos when this delicate creature is messed with in any serious way. These people tend to last the longest, but also have the highest variance in post quality- for every unique/useful post exploring and explaining the current state of Phil's streams, we get twenty rehashing the same basic points made about Phil since the
beginning. A good give-away for such posts is anything starting with "Long time lurker" "Rate me MATI" or "Forgive the Power Level".

Best Community Example: @Surly Muppet has been the go-to for the last couple of years, but due to inactivity @N0thingICanDo is probably a better reference point

Future Goals for Phil: Otis Eugene Ray

While ostensibly they make up the face of the detractor community, they make up an extremely small percentage of active posters on the Farms. There are probably a few reasons for this, but it's probably the highest risk/reward group on the forum. Doxxing seems like a good path to acquire those juicy internet points (although it could get you temporarily banned depending on Dear Leader's mood), but generally if your troll attempt gave DSP any money/attention/pity points, you're probably getting jeered out of the room. Or if falls flat. Or if you're also a fat idiot. Part of the on-going argument about trolling Phil has see the question "Why doesn't he get trolled more" and the answer is pretty straight-forward: Because the Farms will almost certainly mock the troll more than Phil. There have definitely been some successes that managed to tick all the right boxes (The Night of the Living Derichs is probably the most recent one), but it's a very narrow window to meet. Most commonly, people in this category make one or two posts and then quit/stop posting after getting bombarded with "Dumb" ratings. This is the group that is most interested in the milking the cow by any means necessary- expending significant time/money isn't really a problem as long as it keeps the laughs coming. I've seen defenses made for Superhound, OnlyIcedCoffee, snowkarl, Anonymouse, and a number of others shunned by people in the previous two groups because they are creating chaos and that's what truly matters to people in this category. Laugh at Phil, laugh at detractors, it's all the same to them.

Best Community Example: Sweet Deranged @Nigel of Ukip

Future Goals for Phil: Perry Carvello

I broke out this group because while they may fall into other camps, every restreamer or rehasher that I can think of has very different motives than a normal detractor. Like the proverbial broken clock, Phil successfully nailed the restreamer phenomenon and the cycle they go through. Start as a Phil restreamer with commentary, create a community, start branching into other things, and hopefully become an independent streamer. Tevin remains the best example, but it's been attempted by almost everyone I can think of. As Phil has also pointed out (I think correctly), those channels need some drama to continue to spin out content- some legitimately (such as the accounting breakouts) and some not (see James the Lesser Express Lane on...pretty much anything). Where Phil gets it wrong is that he creates pretty much everything needed on his own without the need for drumming up anything else, but I think the point to be considered is that commentary that pushes up controversy to the direct gain (particularly financial gain) of those further that controversy should be taken with a grain of salt. (It's perhaps worth noting that Youtubers who vocally refuse monetary compensation for DSP content still profit on him by gaining a following and they should know this- anyone who says otherwise is either lying or practicing self-deception in an egregious way.) It doesn't make their contributions invalid, but it does make it automatically suspect. It think it's worth considering, especially as I've heard more than one DSP restreamer attempt to keep the moral high ground on the banking leaks while still profiting off their drama, or, to pick a more consistent and long term example, benefiting off of a man who scams the mentally ill while claiming to be better than him.

Best Community Example: @Piece of Peace

Future Goals for Phil: Nothing changes

I wrote a long paragraph and realized it wasn't helping and didn't matter. Draw your own conclusions.

For me:
Behind the Scenes
I used to only associate this phrase with movies being made but now only think of shady transactions and interactions off camera
The Truth of the Matter
I'm pretty sure he got this from Triple H promos, he'll use this phrase when he's thinking of an excuse to not do something
I'm just being Honest
He always says this when he's being an asshole or insulting someone
Ladies and Gentlemen I am in Independent Content Creator
This signals me to turn off the prestream and come back in 15-20 minutes

Viscant is a mad lad, first Phil(DSP) and then Dale(LTG).

That guy made the best highlight I have seen from the FGC, excluding the legendary Diago parry.

Do you guys think Phil will leave his "member's" mics unmuted?

Or do you think it's going to be another mute straight away and goat laugh when they die situation?

I'm guessing he will still mute everyone regardless but part of me hopes he keeps it unmuted and they ask about what food Phil ate.
No way he would speak to another human. He is terrified of people. He talks tough when he is speaking to his chat and is banning everyone, but the few times he's been encountered with an actual voice he freaks the fuck out like some sperg and fumbles to mute them or leave the game immediately. He's a complete pussy that probably walks around the mall on his day off with his head down, and doesn't say a word to the cashier when he buys shit.
