An update to dislikes on YouTube

we live in the gayest timeline in the world. I'd almost be less annoyed if the ppl in charge were actually competent/forceful in their leadership but they honestly seem like they're just stumbling around.
When you are young you think political leaders and industry leaders are these really intelligent people who know what they are talking about and earned their right to be at the top. Honestly. the older you get the more you realise everyone is an incompetent idiot and those at the top just managed to fail their way upwards through even greater incompetence of those around them, nepotism or some combination of these and other factors.

I think youtube is one of those lightning in a bottle accidents and the only thing saving it from collapse at the hands of the utterly stupid company leadership is the fact there is no viable alternative.

It's a slow burn update. I got an email that says "Otherwise, your access to public dislike count data via the Data API will end on December 13, 2021." so that could be the cutoff point.
I see. Most of Invidious instances also show the dislike count for now, but since it's an API thing it will probably be gone by that point too.

You tube is losing money at an amazing rate and the lesbian in charge is trying everything in her power to sanitize the Tube for the big power players who can shell out those bucks.
According to Alphabet's official 2021 Q3 earnings report, YouTube is printing money.

I can still see dislikes logged in, will accept bitcoins to let you know the dislike number on a video of your choosing

I'm interested if anybody who runs a youtube channel has seen an option to remove viewing dislikes from their videos already, i remember the guy in the video or some other place said that creators would be able to enable it for themselves before it is enabled for everyone.

The only option I saw was for users to be able to view ratings for a video. I believe that applies to both thumbs up and thumbs down. I didn't see anything specific to just thumbs down.

Despite what people here are saying here, getting rid of the Dislike button isn't going to make Youtube lose users. However it will make it harder for Youtubers to get views through recommendations as you got rid of one of the ways people interacted with a video. This also makes it harder for not only the Youtubers to make money but also Youtube itself. They will need to roll out a new way to interact with videos to get impressions on them or watch creators leave or resort to third party payment processors like Patreon only and tell their viewers to use adblock.

SoCiEtY grows more dystopian every day

I’m relishing the visible dislikes on Biden videos for now445D954E-5438-4E06-9875-03E8010D5373.jpegAA459B57-4DC2-445C-96E0-766B44C27F6C.jpeg4644655B-6E9A-4BBA-953F-53786C7CE58C.jpeg84D11759-70E0-4276-B4A3-9FF7B2777810.jpeg

And I know this has been a thing for some time now, but seeing the comments turned off on the channel is still so jarring. The entity that is supposed to be made of and made for the people is blocking the people from engaging with it—what’s the point of even having an official channel if it’s just one way communication? The advent of social media has allowed for bodies of government (city, state, federal)/representative entities to establish accounts to connect with the very people they purport to champion, and the biggest one keeps taking away opportunities for its people to show meaningful dissent or approval on a very accessible platform—what kind of message does that send about the country? Those dystopian novels are sounding less and less far off : (

So my jew mind is telling me a way to use this for big money, basically deliberately fall into a scam with 10000 (hidden) dislikes, waste 1000$ and then press charges against Youtube for 1M$ for removing a way to know it is a scam.
Wonder if it's possible or it's too risky to engage a monopoly through the court system.

Doesn't matter. Literally everyone will just keep using YouTube and giving Alphabet trillions of dollars because people are too lazy and stupid to give up comfort.
I agree. Not to mention most people just use their "smartphone" to do anything. The Yt app is already there and practically all Android users have an account due to the google account they have.

According to that report, YouTube ad revenue is about 12% of the total for Google Services (Page 2). That means the costs of running it would need to be less than 30% of their operating income to see any profit. Out of the highlighted bunch, I'd guess YouTube actually needs the most resources to operate. The real money printer is Google's search and ads network. Also their NASDAQ index is something you'd hear in a YTP.

That said, I don't think the money angle works for this story. No dislikes just means it's now easier to push whatever idea you have to passive viewers. You'll still be able to see them in your own channel's stats, so clearly it wasn't done because of muh mentals. It's gonna be fun seeing more closed comment sections or channels going on comment deleting sprees because some of the negative ones might have more likes than the video itself.
