Dungeons & Dragons: Wizards of the Coast Removes Problematic Lore - Wizards of the Coast continues to excise potentially problematic content from Dungeons and Dragons books to address issues of system racism.

Mechanics are honestly secondary to the game experience for me. A good group can make a clunky system fun regardless.

That's the problem though. It's not that the game mechanics are getting screwed up (honestly, I like a number of 5E's aspects for example). It's how you have to keep an eye out to make sure your group isn't filled with screaming retards or dangerhair slacktivists.

And I admit I've had more luck than this in most, since my group is older, more experienced (and genre savvy), and less inclined to put up with sociopolitical bullshit. Even our token liberal knows better than to talk politics on game night; we're there to have fun, not bitch about real world issues.

It reminds of this quote about anime:

To be fair, Miyazaki is a notorious cunt. He is not a nice person. His son worked hard to make an anime film that wasn't even bad, but his father publicly mocked him and berated him over it. Just because he wanted to win his father's approval.

Yea It's a common misconception that Miyazaki is merely anti otaku. He's a notorious misanthrope who hates everyone and everything. Kind of like a Japanese Andrzej Sapkowski.

Unironically they started down the path of heresy when they got rid of THAC0 and negative armor class (i.e. mucking with the fundamentals to supposedly appeal to normies—this is the same thing only it's mucking with the fundamentals of lore*, not mechanics.)

*and not even just lore, something like the fundamental ontology of the fantasy universe: they say in the article that making orcs evil is generalizing against a whole group of "people." Monsters aren't "people." They're fucking monsters. There's no real analogy to this is the real world just like how a fantasy character with gender dysphoria would seek out a girdle of genderswapping or whatever instead of shouting TWAW. The rules of "reality," shockingly, are different than those of fantasy.

Thank God you can download basically everything ever published for old school AD&D and I even have a bunch of dog-eared books from that era we still fuck with.

I tried, I tried real hard to do Tabletop RPGs. The group that invited me were nice easy going guys. They did Pathfinder and I saw the Barbarian class. I like a Barbarian because I picture Conan. I dreamt of speaking in the shittiest Arnold impression ever. I then read the lore description and the Barbarian is referred to as she/her. The whole description just constantly referring to a female Barbarian.

Now I definitely got some autism, whether that's a birth or by consooming too much stupid nerdshit is a mystery. And I'm not so autistic to be mad at the thought of a female barbs being the treated the same as males. I'm a gamer I'm used to fantasy treating gender being a cosmetic choice. But I looked at that text and I felt there was some pointed intention by the book's writers and editors. They intentionally wanted me to feel "triggered" that a name I associate with male warriors was being addressed to women exclusively. They could have just written it gender neutral like most video games do.

Everything I found in Pathfinder (whatever stupid edition I read) felt like it was an intentional choice to leave me, a dopey nerd with an ordinary knowledge of fantasy confused. Because when I read it I can't get into the groove of how things were named. The Gods, all a bunch of fucking jibberish names I can't keep track of. And DnD does that shit too what type of fucking name is Wee Jas??? I don't know how PnP nerds willingly work to memorize all this worthless shit!

And you know what's funny. The original DnD didn't waste your time with this mindnumbing garbage. You look back at what DnD named gods all the way up to the 3rd Edition and they just used the names from historical mythos. I know who Zeus is why can't I just be a Wizard who worships Zeus???

I swear if some company would just make an RPG for dumb people like me maybe this autistic hobby could attract nerds like me. You know I look back at DnD names I know by just knowing pop culture and guess what they originally had basic generic names that anyone could easily understand. What's a Mindflayer? Sounds like a monster that fucks with your mind wow that was easy to figure out! A Gelantinous Blob, I wonder what that could mean?

What's my point? I don't fucking know. I think the PnP RPG writers make shit needlessly complicated as a form of grand autistic gatekeeping. You have Orcs in your lore well you know what they should just be Orcs like everyone already understands them as from the Lord of the Rings movies.

Only fucking Warhammer understands this. It's called KISS; Keep It Simple Stupid!
Dumb names are for the sake of copyright . . .

The use of "she" in books is some garbage that was injected in 1999 to "appeal to female gamers" - it's proto-representation bullshit.

I once designed a massive city centered around a world renown wizard’s college. In reality the whole town was secretly controlled by a cabal of mind flayers who would selectively groom students for greatness only to kidnap them right after graduation. Of course they would only pick the top students to kidnap and then carefully rewrite the memories of family members and anyone who may have known the student within the city limits which was easy considering they had Mindwitnesses spread throughout the city just underground and out of sight linking every mind in the city to the Elder Brain.

But I guess now all of that would be racist.
Sounds like some Protocols of Zion shit, to me.

Ehhh, THACO wasn't really my gripe with AD&D. It was more the magic user/fighter sliding scale, especially low level magic users dying from anything stronger than a stiff breeze.

That said, bringing a cripple into a room and using them as trap fodder because their legs are already useless is a nifty idea.
Spoken like someone who's done that with a hireling....*wink*

Back in the early days of 3.0 3rd party publishing, ENWorld had thread after thread of people haranguing publishers to use "Them/They" and insert at least 1 female "iconic" for every male.

Holy Nerd Shit, Batman, those people were the fucking worst.

Now, they infest pretty much every level of the hobby.

All hobbies

It’s bizarre. They’ve infested knitting, of all hobbies.
My wife complained that entire knitting websites got wiped out, profiles full of download links got erased because of [Sin of the Week] with some of these patterns the only places you could get them.

She got pissed and quit a major online knitting community when, at the height of Burn Loot Murder, they took down all the American Flag themed knitting patterns.

No it's not. The point is absolute demoralization. If there is no where to run to, you'll have to fall over and adopt their way of thinking, even it you're just going through the motions to be left alone.

Gate-keep these people.

All I'm hearing here is that there's dumb faggy controversy over nerdy bullshit, and if I really want to do my dumb nerdy bullshit my way, all I have to do is dig out my old d&d books from a box in my basement, call up a few fellow peeps who like to nerd out, and play the game that way while laughing at all of this.

Seriously, even if you don't have the books, it's easy enough to dig em up online, I just kept mine for nostalgia purposes. And I'm damn sure not going down to some "woke" infested game shop to play whatever d&d is now with people I don't know who are half my age anyways.

Honestly think it was just unnecessary there's no reason why you know you just light armor plus three medium armor plus five heavy armor + 7 whatever magic effects there's no reason it's it's just extra work and it doesn't really add to it removing Seiko was a good decision and I would not really trust the decision-making process of somebody who thinks it was a good thing that should have stayed in the game maybe the only actually good decision that was ever made was removing Seiko everything revolving around casters obviously was bad because you know casters are well that's another discussion but yeah I know think it was they go stupid they goes a waste of time even if you go back to Old School pre-ad&d basic D&D very easy to just literally like I like I said about remove fakeo ignore the entire chart and literally just say oh yeah light + 3 medium + 5 heavy + 7 shield plus two leave me the f*** alone I don't care and and you know and just like yeah so just just okay the thing rolls you know 18 does that hit you yeah it hits you okay fine move on does you know d6 plus whatever damage but they're people who like to keep it we got to keep our AC on our on our on our token on our thing it's going to be this it's like just tell me whether I think f****** heads and you declare whether or not you got hit I don't want to I can't keep track of all your I don't know what the f****** stats are I can barely keep track of my s*** you keep track of your s*** and that goes bad that's all I have to say
