think a lot of millennials especially the ones born before 1990 have this view to be seen as smart and cultured you cant just move to a city in your red state, not matter how green- transit friendly, and quirky that place might be. Upper class leftest or larpers who desire to be them aka linsey. For them YOU HAVE TO live in a overly expensive blue state mega city nyc San fran or Boston. Neverminded the fact that its no longer 1998 and every city even some down and out rustbelt town has today, hipsters and immigrant ethic restaurants. Im also going to power level a bit i live in a older Midwest city, in a gentrifying area, when we first renovated my house at a time when every house on my block was pretty much all boarded abandon, and slowly watching a neighborhood that was pretty much dead come back to life is way more fulfilling, then moving to some already place that been gentrified back in the 90's just because you seen the place on a romcom. But linsey will never move to a small city no matter how progressive that place might be, because she cant use it impress her upper-class friends she does not have.
The thing about global cosmopolitan cities is that they are *usually* actually nice places to live. There are things to do, there's easy transit to get around, you don't have to commute a million miles to your job, etc. That they are far leftist hellholes is mostly an American/Canadian/Australian syndrome. In most of the world, cities are populated by all types of people and the "diversity" leftists so crave is actually a real, positive thing.
The problem is that American conservatives are so fucking driven by "if the left likes it, it must be bad", and thus think they need to live on an acre of land (that they do nothing with), drive their giant pickup truck (truck bed never used for its intended purpose of crops or lumber), 20 miles just to get groceries, with their high cuisine being a trip to the Golden Corral. "Health care? I'd rather be dead than red!"
Unfortunately in the US, this dichotomy has led to the cities becoming crime pits (can't oppress the victim class! They only rape and murder because of white supremacy!) and white flight is happening again, and even the lefties are leaving.
This will only get fixed when people are willing to listen to each other instead of being retarded political tribes. That the other side isn't always wrong about everything. Right now the identity politics of the left are the most egregious in their fundamentalism, which means that people on the right have an opportunity to make compromises where they make sense, win hearts and minds, and take advantage of situations like the left eating its own, as we see here with Lindsay.
And I can't believe I'm writing this because I'm a fucking democratic socialist, but I'm sick of what the left has become.
