It's a little more complicated than that. Mexico has hit the tier of prosperity where the average person can eat as much as they want. Since just about anyone can run a business out of anywhere, you can't go more than about 50 feet in any populated area without running into somebody selling snacks, whether it's American brands (Sabritas), Mexican brands (Barcel), or handmade street food. You could just as easily bloat up on street fries, horchata, and chicharron as Takis and Coca-Cola.

From what I got from the clips, it seems they're going with the character being a simple thief (which I think was like the much older version of Moon Knight, like the Silver age one), and when the Moon Knight takes over he essentially has no control over his body or actions. While they def are using a darker version of the character where he just punches bad guys into pulp. So, really, it's less about the religion part and more about them trying to blend two different Moon Knights into one.

nah Spector's never been simple, but he's definitely always been in the moral grey area, and early on it was pretty much implied that Khonshu took over often enough. (If I remember my Avengers West Coast)


was he ever a simple thief? i don't recall because his first appearances were in the Werewolf at Night comics, which have some gaps in online scans iirc. i don't think they went into his specific backstory in his first appearances beyond "hunts evil by moonlight".
