Ian absolutely slapped this together at the last moment as a response to Sam's video. Ian doesn't even notice what he has in his own video.

Ian keeps whining that he has questions about "your comedy" and that Sam wasn't genuine with him so he didn't get to find out, yet during the interview with Nick while Sam is there both Sam and Nick are being genuine and explain the comedy.

Sam's point is that showing your taint is uncomfortable, and if you don't do it well and it's not funny then you just have your taint out for no reason.
Ian at the end of the video says the point is "to never show anyone your taint." Ian doesn't get it and thinks Sam was saying 'hide behind "meta-irony" so you're never embarrassed'.

It's really funny to me that Ian doesn't get this because his style of humor literally used to be showing people his taint. The entire premise of videos of his like 'LEGIT FOOD REVIEW - Dumpster Chicken (Ft. H3H3)' is 'I am showing my taint to Ethan to gross him out'. It's literally just do something uncomfortable and hope it's funny.

Really Ian should have not posted anything rather than this because he just comes off as either too dumb or too autistic to carry on a conversation and unable to see outside his pre-conceived notions.

Fair point, but Ian is still capable of being perceived as charismatic to those who don’t actually know anything about what he’s like. A lot of his “Content Cop” videos have aged poorly given Ian’s own inability to handle drama, but prior to that being revealed, he generally came across as actually looking better than the subjects of his videos.

Conversely, Ethan came across as an unfunny hack from the beginning, and when he’d do videos taking the piss out of “cringey” content creators he’d always try way too hard to be funny which had the effect of making him look worse than whomever he was mocking.

Yeah my read of this was that Sam was legitimately excited expecting some Filthy Frank kinda guy that drops to the ground in a tingle costume screaming that he's gay. I think he wanted to give Ian hilarious content (which is why half of Ian's video feels like an actual MDE video instead) and assumed that Ian was on edge early on because Sam was deliberately pretending to have red flags and issues- and then by the end of the interview he was way more aware of Ian's intent and as a result didn't want to hang out with him nearly as much for the remaining week that he was there.

Ian was just another journalist coming at him with an angle, to pick on him for his style of comedy and act like it's such a problem exclusively because it drums up plausible deniability over his offensive political views. He just wanted Sam to "explain" his honest political opinions behind his jokes, because it'd be easier to attack without the "meta-irony". He records himself talking about Sam with the same face that Oprah made talking about "girls being raped by over 9,000 penises" throughout the doc. And then he gets butthurt that Sam doesn't want to hang out with him anymore the moment he caught on.

I feel like Sam's vid's thumbnail is very telling of how it made him feel- I can't tell if the message on the left is supposed to be what Ian is saying to Sam or vice versa, but either way it makes Ian look like shit to me, and it hits even harder after seeing the actual documentary.

And Ian is going to get so much pussy. All the women that would seethe at Sam's display of masculinity will see Ian's victimhood and get really horny guaranteed.
