Expect the unexpected for State of Play streams. When we hear there’s a Japan-centric PlayStation showcase, we immediately think of Final Fantasy XVI. But right off the bat, we got a new game announcement from Capcom. They’re making another dinosaur game! But it’s a new IP called Exoprimal. We were so close, Dino Crisis fans. So close!
“In the game’s main mode, Dino Survival, teams fight for every breath against countless dinosaurs while racing to complete missions before rival squads in 5v5 matches. A dynamic mix of objectives keeps players on their guard and ensures each match is different form the last. Exofighters will need to stay on their toes as hunts transition into precious cargo deliveries or desperate last stands against relentless assaults. Opposing teams are even given opportunities to tackle adversaries head-on and impede their progress.” We didn’t get any of that from the first trailer, so uh, huh.

On the PlayStation Blog, Capcom notes that players can swap suits “on the fly.”

Exoprimal is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox, Xbox One X/S, and Steam in 2023. At first glance, it looks like EDF with dinosaurs, which rules (in theory). Earth Defense Force is such a singular creation, with such a particular tone and form of jank, so whether that’s the actual gameplay vibe we’re getting remains to be seen.

I literally thought it would be a new dino crisis, but the moment I saw all the people shooting I knew it was some gay online only team based bullshit. I then threw my phone across the room in a rage and it destroyed my rice paper walls.

Just let Putin launch the nukes.

Capcom: "We're introducing a new game, a game about a crisis involving dinosaurs, a "dino crisis" if you will, you can also play as a redheaded female character, we call the game... EXOPRIMAL!"

>Not playing as the Dinosaurs
Once again, Crapcom wastes a opportunity

Also this is giving me "Evolve" vibes, and if I remember correctly, that game didn't do too well.
It reminds me heavily of Anthem, it's literally just Anthem with dinosaurs.

All I asked capcom, is a game where I play as the "monster", wrecking the humans. True to form, you continue to further disappoint.
Still, good luck with your shitty not-EDF/anthem clone.

It doesn't play anything like EDF apparently, it's horde mode with power armor that's just effectively a different weapon set and not something cool like titan fall mechs.

I can't get over how there's a Regina-like character in the trailer. There's no way that wasn't intentional.
Regina is a fucking queen and I wish she'd come back.

Kills me they leave the plot hanging where they did with DC2
Seriously want to see a real DC3 where the time distortions that DC2's notes discuss start to happen in the modern era and the need to send dinosaurs to the future.

Evolve was fun as hell, the only reason it didn't do well is because Turtle Rock are greedy shitheads.

From what I understand the third Gun Survivor game, Dino Stalker, does pick up from where the plot of DC2 left off.

Capcom were working on a real Dino Crisis 3 though that was a direct sequel to 2 that would have involved dinosaurs on the loose in a modern American city, what killed that idea? 9/11, Capcom were worried about the imagery of a destroyed US city so soon after 9/11, hence the "dinosaurs in space" plot of the 3 we got.

I completely forgot when the WTC was hit by pterodactyls flown by Jihadraptors and a Tyrannosaurus Shiek.

It looks like left4dead but with dinosaurs and specialized mech suits. There's even a dude that looks like a bootleg coach!
Unrelated but why do all the "realistic" graphics in games nowallt hese weird uncanny probably AI smoothened cgi skinwalker demons? Like this isn't even a "brown shooter" argument here I'm making a lot of games people criticized for that had reasons for everything looking brown and dingy. The past few years a whole lot of games that are "next gen" look like the worst FMVs of several gens ago in the human department and it all looks really samey and mass affect andromeda-y. Is it just me that feels a weird homogeny going on compared to older realistic games all having their own visually distinct style?
This one isn't the worst looking at the trailer again but like it has that same general boardroom "realism" vibe.

While it’s okay to want a Dino Crisis sequel, I’m still waiting for someone to make sequels to these gems:

Well, hopefully when this game bombs, we can get its assets recycled into a fucking modern Dino Crisis.

You would think after the raging success of all the Resident Evil remakes, they'd consider going into the back catalogue for it. Especially since those stupid new Jurassic Park movies are still successful.

I'm surprised Capcom isn't dipping more into the back catalog in general, you'd think you'd see a lot of old ips get RE engine revivals, Capcom has built up enough of a new generation of a fanbase that people would jump at the chance to play a new Dino Crisis, Onimusha etc.

And in particular a Haunting Ground reboot would make sense, since RE8 cribbed a lot from it and since everyone went nuts for RE8, you'd think a Haunting Ground revival would be an obvious thing even if the original wasn't a big seller back in the day, but I guarantee you a reboot would be a hit today.
