I'm back to throw myself into Star Wars once again:
Talking Obi-Wan spoilers, there's a couple leaks and rumors I don't think anyone's commented on yet:
...And a confrontation that's actually worthy of his character.

According to the Reddit thread above, it was previously reported by MSW and others that A'Sharad Hett was going to be the main villain in Hossein Amini's script. In this version, Hett would have joined the Tuskens as before to hide after Order 66. At some point he senses Luke and tries to kill him, fearing he would bring the Empire to Tatooine, and the series would conclude with Obi-Wan killing him with both his own and Anakin's lightsabers. Rumor also had it that there would've been conflict between the farmers and Sand people, and even Jar Jar would have appeared looking grizzled and with a beard (what?).
Had Amini stayed on, it would have been the second time he worked on a project with Ewan McGregor, but according to reports from Collider and SlashFilm, Kathleen Kennedy wasn't happy with the script and instead hired Harold to rewrite it. This conflicts with Kamran Pasha's assertion on his Patreon (and likely in podcasts with Midnight's Edge and other channels) that Hossein Amini was Kennedy's "pet writer"; when he was fired (by Kennedy?), she lost control of the project, and later "got revenge" by firing Gina Carano.
Mind you, Gina wasn't technically fired; rather it was leaked to Jason Ward by Kennedy or someone in LFL that her contract was up & wouldn't be renewed for any Star Wars projects in the future. Which seems to be contradicted by the fact that her character, Cara Dune, is showing up as a playable character in Lego Star Wars.
I think the situation might be the reverse of what Kamran's thinking: Having Obi re-fight Vader was Kathleen's idea, whereas Amini wanted to pull more from the EU and the PT. Creative differences ensue, and KK does the predictable thing and fires him.
If the rumors are to be believed, the black imperial bitch is the same one from Chuck Windbag's books... Still expect Doomcuck and others to claim that Filoni is totally going to ignore the new stuff and retcon Chucky and JewJew's shit out of existence.
Oh, you mean Rae Sloane, the Grand Admiral of the future First Order which she is part of forming in the Unknown Regions. I dunno, maybe Reva is a "Sith" name for her and that's the same person, but that's probably a stretch. Rae Sloane was neither Jedi nor Sith based on what little I skimmed about her on Wookiepedia. And there's no other black female Imp in the trailer that I noticed.
"The fight is over. We lost. We're done." Uh, seems pretty defeatist for a guy who brought Luke and protects him under the idea that Luke will be the chosen one that will save the galaxy. You know, the New Hope.
Also, the lead inquisitor here, according to leaks that have been confirmed by this trailer, is supposed to be "a female Revan character; even her name is 'Reva', based on Revan.". So, look forward to cringeworthy comparisons to Revan ahead.
Apparently this is how you race- and -sex-swap a character without actually doing it. That's clever, I guess.
What's more interesting here, though, is Obi-Wan's line in the teaser. Based on the leaks, this line works a lot better in context. It's what he tells Nari, the Jedi straggler that finds him after a 10-year search, in an effort to save his life. Sadly this doesn't work, and Obi-Wan later sees him publicly hanged by Reva in the Mos Espa/Anchorhead streets. This is appropriately tragic from Obi-Wan's perspective, and it's already much darker than anything in the previous D+ shows.
This gives me a bit of hope the show won't completely suck. Obi-Wan is partly beaten down because, according to MSW's take on what will happen, he's been trying and failing to contact Qui-Gon like Yoda instructed him. He also tries connecting with Luke by getting him a T-16 Skyhopper toy, which Owen prevents. Between these two stressors and living a very rough, solitary life in the desert, him being "broken down and somewhat faithless", as Ewan put it, is believable. He tells Nari "the fight is done; we lost..." and tells him to bury his lightsaber in the desert, because that would have saved his life, as depressing as it is to hear.
This is where we get into the Leia rescue arc, which only lasts until ep3. Some folks in the thread think this contradicts the OT because Leia never saw him before. However, the leaks make it clear that Obi is in disguise, as well he should be. The Reno-like planet that he and Bail Organa go to is called "Daiyu" and they rescue Leia from a spice den, which eventually gets to Vader and he intervenes. Ep3-6 will then focus on Vader vs Obi.
Obi-Wan and Vader will have several skirmishes, but only two duels. The first duel is apparently going to be epic, with Obi-Wan pushing Vader 50ft into a wall and then watching him get up like a Terminator. Obi knows it's Anakin in the suit. They're going to use "mega Force pushes" on each other, and Vader ends up whooping Obi. The second duel will be on one of Mustafar's moons, and this is where Obi-Wan will rally and defeat Vader after finally hearing Qui-Gon's voice. There's supposed to be a lot of back-and-forth between them in these encounters, with the
latest wild rumor being that Obi will mention Padme in an attempt to turn Vader.
The leaks mentioned a lot of Jedi Temple flashbacks, presumably from Vader's perspective, back to the Clone War era pre-ROTS. Hopefully they learned that people didn't like the repeated Bacta tank flashbacks from TBoBF and will keep these to a minimum, but it sounds like we're going to see either Ahsoka or another "certain apprentice" in them (Maul?)
So yeah, this show could be ruined by either Filoni or Kennedy bullshit, but I'm relieved by the leaks so far. And to reference Kamran again, Jon and Dave are "stepping back and hiding their influence so that Kennedy can take credit for it and bow out gracefully," as he predicts Kennedy will do at some point in the future.
They don’t show Leia in this trailer, but what they do show lines up with
the leaks that I posted from Making Star Wars a couple of weeks ago.
I wanted to briefly comment on that personal statement from Jason Ward. I didn't watch the video he made, but for anybody who wants to dig into that drama, I submit
this archive of his shenanigans. There's no entry on this latest video from Jason because the blog was retired in Feb 2021 after 3 years of documenting LFL drama.
