Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

REBOOT seemed like the fun show that I had never heard of until now. Though, I must say, the 3DCG elements remind me so much of Cubix:

Funny enough, I still have the toy of the main lead robot from the latter. Today, one could say that this could be considered an obscure show to many.

If you’re wondering, I still have no clue how I was able to get the toy and VHS tape of Cubix in question. Consider Mom and Dad at just picking up what they think their only son would like.

What happened now? Because fuck looking at the tags on twatter.
Lumity fans are cooming because this happened in the new Owl House episode...

it's impossible to watch the show without being reminded how Luz and Amity are girlfriends every 3 minutes by literally everyone and their mom. They're just cringy and annoying, I hate them. Nomad of Nowhere had better lesbians.
Weirdly enough, I like Eda and Rain even though I hate nonbinary shit and Eda is a Mary Sue (that's because the show was originally meant to be about her with Luz being a sidekick apprentice. It was also supposed to be set in Hell (sounds familiar???) and Dana doesn't even like writing kids shows). I'm a minority who prefers the first season where Disney had more control 'cause I liked the slice-of-life Harry Potter ripoff over the pretentious and preachy gay drama it is now. Seriously, can cartoons just STOP with mental illness allegory bullshit?
edit: Oh yeah, Dana said Lilith is autistic or some shit. Yay for representation

A more fitting name would be "ToonBoom Style," which has become the defacto production suite of commercial cartoons.

And that's not even ToonBoom's fault because the software is clearly capable of producing quality animation, but sadly the clear productivity improvements have resulted in us largely getting creatively stifled works.

In the old days the nerdy director and his storyboard artists had months to tinker with the animation. Now they have to just follow the models that have already been drawn when the show was in early development. Seriously if floors me to go back to the original Rugrats Pilot done by Peter Chung and notice how many crazy perspective shifts and odd camera angles he fits into a 6 minute cartoon.
This kind of animation is more or less long gone besides the remaining holdouts in Japan's Anime, because the work it took for this pilot could probably make a full season of the CGI Rugrats abomination.
I keep forgetting that Peter Chung of Aeon Flux fame was involved with the early days of Rugrats (makes the reboot all the more cheap in comparison). The 90s was a really interesting time to be an animator.
^I think we outta roll with that name since its more suitable.
It really is a shame since, much like how CalArts can produce good students, there can be good art done with Toon Boom.

I’m convinced Dana only submitted her show to Disney due to already having clout with them; Owl House is such a poor fit for Disney it’s no wonder things didn’t work out in the end. Also glad someone still remembers Nomad of Nowhere; what happened to it was fucked up.
She was also revealed to be Asexual/Aromantic too
Huh. I’m starting to notice outside the lesbians and the “non binary” bullshit, most of the representation this show is praised for is outside the show itself. Almost as if the creator is pandering…

I'm sick of owl house shit
lumity is cringy af

edit: probably my fault for following cartoonfags

I had it on by accident last night and holey shit the show has gotten worse. Your right on them constantly mentioning how Amity is Luz's girlfriend and I'm sorry I really can't stand non-binary in general. Fuck this cartoon for trying to tell kids that's normal. Non-binary will never be fucking normal!!!!!

With whole Lilith thing so is this show trying to be she-ra? Seriously why is it that all cartoons with female leads have to be lesbians and along with every character being non-binary and asexeul lately? We're never getting a show like Kim Possible again where the main character is straight are we?

I seem to recall this being fairly popular in the UK, although that might be me confusing it with Shaun the Sheep. The UK likes its cartoon barnyard animals for some reason.
Here in America they were eventually running new episodes at 5 pm on Sundays, which should tell you how the network eventually thought about it.

Which was a shame. It was a fine show. Mo Willems should have had the opportunity to do more in animation, but at the very least he's found his niche as a kids' book author. (But we'll always have the Offbeats, of course.)

So this just dropped:

KING TWEETY is a brand-new, high-flying adventure featuring Looney Tunes beloved characters Tweety, Sylvester and Granny as they jet-off to the Canary Islands where Tweety is crowned king.

This is literally The Loud House Movie but with Looney Tunes characters, right down to the "old fart is jealous of protagonist's newfound royal fame and wants to take over". If Chuck Jones were spinning in his grave any faster, he'd be a perpetual motion machine. *sigh*

What in the holy mother of fuck is that animation style?!?!

It doesn't fit these characters at all! Sylvester's eyes are creepy as fuck (in general, not just the big-eyed pic), looks like a fucking muppet.

Every creator now wants the representation points but lack any balls to have gay men as they are less accepted by the populace because..well...what pervs don't want lesbians.

Same politics also drag this. Cartoon Network and Disney Channel are incestuous in their show runners as most of their creators come from the same pool. There was a meme that depicted this, showing how 2008's Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack lead to pretty much every big animated series on CN and Disney last decade.

Basically, Flapjack began the apocalypse.
