Horrifying Things That Are Viewed As Normal

Also Aspartame. That stuff plagues diet sodas and even chewing gum.

That shits horrible, I have a allergic reaction to it makes me puke I can take it in small amounts like a vending machine coffee but if I get cheep drinks like knock off coke, lemmonaid etc I start puking and I cant taste anything for a while after.

cutting off a small piece of a babys penis because an invisible man told you to

I've no idea why that's so common in the US, in the UK outside of a few religious groups it's kinda rare infact I know one person who's had it done for a medical reason but other than that it's rare.

The guy who invented breakfast cereal Aldo promoted circumcision for the same reason: to reduce masturbation.

Circumcision. I know my take won’t be welcomed by all, but it must be said.

I had a coworker once who was pregnant and for some reason she was already talking about when she planned on getting him clipped. Like Jesus, lady. Let the poor kid take a breath first. Not Jewish, even…Just one of those southern white girls.
It causes permanent physical and psychological damage. It isn't just a "whoops, didn't know any better".
One I never see mentioned on this site is little kids being exposed to shitty pop/nigger music on a constant basis. Over the past 15/20 years the public attitude on this changed completely, there used to be a conscious effort to shield kids from music that is overtly sexual or adult but now you have 4 year olds being taught dances to Cardi B or Lady Gaga songs like it's nothing weird at all, and a general attitude of little kids having a "right" to be regularly listening to top 40 music instead of anything appropriate for their age range.
We used to have very vocal groups go against sexual, satanic, etc themes in media 30 years ago. Now that they're gone, a huge chunk of modern music videos are arguably soft core porn and I know one of them is even about having sex with the devil.

I pull out my phone? Screen. I go to work? Screen. I go to the gym? Screen. I go home? Screen. I get in my car? Screen.
I open a sliding glass door? Screen. Not even doors are safe! I know you meant electronic screens.

The fact that you can buy caffeine pills without any ID. Why is the easiest way to overdose on caffeine given less scrutiny than barely alcoholic light beer?

People are expected not to put basic thought into their conversations. You risk being weird if you discuss anything more complicated than politics and the advancement toward the future mentality of the space age is on life support at best. We aren't just expected to be dumb, but are treated as though we are dangerous if we show any signs of intelligence outside of our hobbies and work. Imagine it being normal to have conversations where recreational learning is a given and for fun. Or even better when you try to apply basic logic to political issues it isn't shot down as some -ism. Curiosity and thoughtfulness are an offense in modern society. This frequently bothers me.

I'm a big meat eater, and don't plan on changing that, but having helped butcher animals it is kind of horrifying taking an animal apart like that. The killing itself doesn't really bother me, circle of life and all that. However the pile of viscera, and the bags of good meat, left over at the end are an uncomfortable contrast. Still tasted good though.

The fact that people will believe anything that some overpaid talking head on TV says, even if it contradicts exactly what was said last week. This applies to social media prostitutes as well.

One other thing that I realize horrifies me, and it really does when I think about it, is how people don't want to really fix our sociopolitical problems. Every solution is a hodgepodge of scapegoats and band-aids.

I'll share one quick expedient example of what I mean. Take how both the left and right blame video games (scapegoat) as a source of societal ills for different reasons. The left accuses them of encouraging sexism. The right accuses them of encouraging violence. What makes it worse is they both think that just banning or censoring video games (band-aids) is going to make these problems go away. Naturally, doing this never works. There are myriads of other real-life problems that either barely acknowledged or ignored altogether.

Why do these activists and their allies do this shit? There are a variety of reasons: narcissism, corruption, and stupidity among others. It would be too easy, too obvious, to fix the real reasons for sexism and violence existing, but then that wouldn't give any activists, politicians, and celebrities any validation or influence if they actually fixed the problems! Then again, since most people are too busy consuming, fighting, and ignoring the world around them anyway, they can keep the vicious cycle going and no one cares.

It horrifies me because sometimes it feels like when you actually want to do good in the world, your efforts are shot down or even downright meaningless because "the people" and the assholes who wrangle them don't care one way or another either.

This is how it's always been, and it is unavoidable due to human nature. Even good things in the past we romanticize like the American Revolution had attention whores, crabs in a bucket, and humans using power for personal gain. We have constant exposure to news and a better way to gossip so we always know what our neighbors are up to, MLK being an adulterous would be spreading like fire on the internet in spite of his good intentions and tarnish him fast if he were in the modern day. Petty people can tear each other down faster with it, but it doesn't mean we should stop fighting for what we want. Slavery, women's rights, worker's rights, animal rights, and so on took a long time to get fixed or where they are today. The only way to get through is to find others like you and continue to push on, even if it takes a long, long time.

This post is cynical, but I'm trying to say even the smallest effort is not in vain. It's sad and feels hopeless, but no one said fixing large problems wouldn't require a ton of effort. There are people who want things to change but don't know how to help, those who'd like change but can only focus on their own struggles, and people who want change but are burned out by what feels like hopelessness from a callous species. The loud ones taking advantage and gain of others are always going to stick out in our mind and will always be an obstacle. The only thing we can do is keep going and take comfort in being less alone than you think you are.

I'm young and retarded though, take my opinions with a grain of salt.

Starfucking.
People who give money to literal millionaire livestreamers, then jack off to the 10 seconds of attention they get because "the famous person acknowledged me". They treat their favorite celebrities as some sort of deities, who can never say, or do anything wrong, then blindly agree with whatever they say, and praise them for the dumbest shit.

The aversion to "Sincerity" that the west has culturally kind of horrifies me.

The entire west seems to have gotten this "Ironic Better than everything" attitude that I think really does a disservice to it culturally. You can't just enjoy things anymore*, you can't just look at something and be like "That is nice"

*I am not counting Shills on Social Media, they aren't unironically enjoying things they are shilling for a product for money.

something like half the country is on SSRIs and nobody sees a problem with it.
And how nobody really talks about how they can fuck up your gut biome or about SSRI discontinue disorder. SSRIs are great for treating certain mental disorders with cognitive behavioral therapy alongside, but why is everyone and their brother on them first before non-medicated solutions?

Medication is another tool to fix a mental disorder but like any tool you need to know how to use it first. You don’t hammer a nail with a saw.

To add to your first concern, I wonder why people have so little wonder about the natural world and other cultures and their ways of life. These are magnificent things (for the most part, there are some flat out degenerate cultures in the past and present). I'm not saying you should be an expert in physics, amth or some cultural studies, but I've noticed that most people have NO interest in the world past what is in front of their eyes. It's so depressing and confounding. Most people are so short-sighted and so self-centered that they literally are NPCs. Technology is a great thing, but I really question whether bringing it to the masses was good seeing how it dehumanizes people to be either self-centered automata or animals.
This bothers me too. I don't expect anyone to be geniuses or intellectuals, but you don't have to be those things to enjoy learning or thinking. It's almost like a lot of these people could have been born as farm animals and it wouldn't make any difference. It feels like a waste of your humanity to just live like an automaton. I get that being too detached from everyday life isn't good either, but it doesn't hurt to balance it out with intellectual curiosity and learning.

Pointing out that a highly influential person had a mental illness as if this makes being mentally ill seem any better. The monster haunting someone is not any nicer to have just because some famous person was also haunted by it. It's fucked that anyone has to suffer from that.
