Thanks for posting this; couldn't bring myself to actually watch the episode and this is a good highlight real.
Honestly, as gross as this is to say, Ethan is totally fine with these comments imo. The main point is that Ethan (and the producer, Dan) were getting at was that there are archetypes of gays: bottoms, tops, power-bottoms, etc. Ethan has made lots of assumptions in the past, calling people "power bottoms" based off of their appearence and the caller is triggered that Ethan would make assumptions on their sexual status based on this alone.
The caller is out of his mind thinking that you can't assume these types of things - you can make an accurate bottom/top judgment almost all of the time based on looks and personality; this is called "how society has worked until the last decade". But the ever-progressive crowd can't stand any judgments (even in jest) made on anything besides their own personal truth, so assuming or joking about anything is the same as a hate crime against them.
However, this is the exact audience Ethan has curtailed with his SJW crusade and he is reaping what he sowed hard here. Apologizing to them is gay too, just own it - humor and comedy is all about finding the line people get triggered over and fucking with it. If he respected himself as a comedian (and wasn't worried about the shekel train) he would just tell these triggered queers to get over it, but alas, the apology cycle begins again. It's also never a good look when the producer of your show ends it by telling the fans and audience to "shut the fuck up" over and over again.
Also of course Ethan eventually brings it back to "how does the shit look and work" - just curiosity, no poop fetish here /sneed. Gross.
