Olly...

If Miss Solemani looks so much like you (she doesn't)...and if you think every British actress looks like you...they'll just cast her, and they'll just cast them.

Which is...good? That's who should get the role. They don't have to demand certain angles or an inhuman suspension of belief to play the parts.

Your problem, Olly, was not your "look" or "gender" or whatever...

Your problem was that your "acting" was all faux-Shakespearean pauses and over-enunciation.

Superficial and "big" characters and over-sculpted line readings, that was your thing, Olly. And that works on a community theatre stage, but you wanted more.

Oops!

Socialist queens 👑✨🥂🍾

When was the last time PT mentioned a book that wasn't Nabokov's Ada? He's as bad as Resistance libs with Harry Potter. His children's cartoon references are richer and more varied. It doesn't sound like he reads fiction as a rule.

There's plenty of art in Glasgow for anyone willing to walk out of the house and into a gallery, but mourning fantasies he hasn't lifted a finger to realize on Twitter is more fulfilling for Alice, I guess. Because art qua art doesn't give him a buzz. He likes art — wants to possess art — not as an end but a means, an ingredient of personal aesthetic, a proof of imagined character. Holidays in Paris (cosmopolitan sybarite), vintage designer clothing (tasteful, timeless, not a trend chaser), Issey Miyake specifically (avant-garde, unconcerned with the conventional trinkets of femininity), all horrendously expensive because the desire at the bottom of it is to be rich.

How wonderful to be rich. I'd be a wonderful rich person. Nowadays rich people are soulless; that's the problem with them — fucking Teslas and Rolexes and Gucci slides. I'd have a cool aesthetic. I'd buy vInTaGe dEsIgNeR. I'd wear Issey Miyake to the guillotine and loom around like the Grim Reaper while the blade comes down on the baddies (not me pls I'm a podcaster!!) blah blah etc. bullshit.

It's telling that Alice's dream gets more specific about the things he has than the things he does. There's nothing he really wants to achieve in there, only luxury consumables that magically transform him into an aesthete without demanding a drop of effort from him. He can't even imagine himself running a calorie deficit to fit into his hypothetical commodities, which trust fund art girls, for all their privilege, must do to stay in fashion. Just give money get glamour no sweat all dopamine.

On that note, Alice spent £10,000 – £12,500 on a hair transplant. For a hijabi. I guess that answers the "how often does he commit to the LARP" question with "not often enough to curb an obsession with the hairline in the mirror."

Apparently Olly agrees he’s a narcissistic opportunist. This person excoriates Olly and he a) scours the comments reading up on himself and b) try’s to damage control by agreeing and engaging.

Person: You’re a disgusting narcissist, everything you do is calculated.

Oliver: Thank you for your feedback, it’s appreciated and I’ll think more about your valid points.

Lol.
In good PT fashion he answers criticism just to tell you a story about how awesome he is - being dragged into protests, making a speech up on the spot and not really doing anything wrong.

BRO DO YOU NOT HAVE EARS CAN YOU NOT HEAR HIS VOICE DO YOU KNOW WHAT AN ACCENT IS?
What about Chubes accent or upbringing OR ATTENDANCE OF ST ANDREWS in the first place suggests poverty?
wtf?
@PennyAni get her straight and link her the Newcastle Royal Grammar Schools fees page PLEASE.

Fr when I started reading that comment I thought it was gonna go along the lines of “chubey from Newcastle and probably got knocked out for having a plummy voice when he had to step outside the compound walls now and then” Nope.
Handmade herself retarded.

I tried mate, hopefully in a nice way? She hasnt responded.

For the record, can I say as an American born in the Southwestern U.S. that Joan is so full of absolute shit about how offensive it is to mock a "Valley Girl"/"Val"/"Valley" accent. Holy fuck. I will give her points for creativity as I've never heard that take before and would've never conceived that anyone, ever, would take to Reddit to scold people for putting on a Spiccoli accent.

Idk about her. I thought she was peaking. She kinda reminds me of when I still used to be very proper and PC about doing my very, very utmost to not "invalidate" anyone through my speech or opinions, but I was starting to have rebellious thoughts in my head about how bullshit it all was. It's like she's *there* a little bit, you know? But she's kinda stuck and she's using the opportunity to wokescold people even more about the very things she's questioning.

I mean, straight up agreeing about how maybe being a man for 25+ years could have more of an effect on one's character than pretending to be a transwoman for 1+ year in PMs....
but then in public very righteously "yikes"-ing others who said the exact same thing. And, I mean.... "borderline incel-y"?

Antipsychotics for anxiety disorders, anticonvulsants for depression, definitely more. A quick search says about 10% of prescriptions in the UK are off-label.

Super common in the U.S. too. Especially because many physicians are scared of prescribing scheduled drugs nowadays, if you go in for- say- anxiety attacks many are more likely to give you an old school antidepressant that has sleepiness as a side effect rather than just giving you Xanax to address the problem directly. Same with people I know who have pain issues and have been prescribed Gabapentin or Abilify or whatever. I think this is a pretty well known phenomenon to most adults?

Joan repeats talking points, basically. She doesnt try to verify or make sense of them, she just parrots them.

I haven't watched anything but don't understand why there's so much fellating of Paris Lees in this thread.

I dont think there is? It's just that on that one filmed interview/appearance with Paris and Olly, Paris came across as a remarkably more normal and relatable person while next to Toob.

More from yesterday's National Student Pride event:

View attachment 3166226View attachment 3166230View attachment 3166233

And a pizza review video from a few weeks back with a couple surprise cameos:

View attachment 3166235

I love how when dainty Olly went to try the pizza he did it so aggressively that the Pizza dude was like "yah Abigail, wrap yer craw around it!" or however he phrased it. I loled a bit.

Oh u just realised the girl sitting next to “Jammie Dodger” is his gf.
She’s fucking slagging off the north now, talking about how “A footballer called Mo Salah ...? identified as Muslim- and he’s at a football club called Liverpool, and we know that the North isn’t exactly the most livable” Bitch what the fuck that mean? Also, identified lmao-

The fuck? Lol so we're seeing some pretty nasty classism going completely under the radar on a panel supposedly about how bigotry is bad. Shocking.

Can anyone post the stream from the pride panel??? I can’t watch it on the website for some reason. I need to see Hollywood chube 😩

I wasnt able to find it either. But yk, I had to set some personal boundaries for my own mental well being when it comes to watching Olly.

It's pure cringe porn- like it can literally be almost painful to witness. I'll only sit through a long video or interview now if I feel it's been too long and it's now my turn to go through and outline it for this lil community here. Or if/when we do a watch party.

Whoever coined Olly's protest and Pride speeches as "Revolutionary LARPing" gets a gold ribbon. That's 100% what it is.

Someone had said earlier in the thread that Contra has higher quality visuals and aesthetic in her videos and I'm inclined to say that the only reason why we notice this is because Contra actually dresses up the background as well, instead of just putting on the costumes. Contra makes the surroundings look like an actual place, an actual livable room. PT doesn't even try. It's all about how he looks and maybe it's just me but there's nothing more distracting than a drab, plain background.

For real. Like, remember how proud he was of the Violence and Protest video thumbnails? I *think* that was the costume that he teased beforehand was going to make his fans lose their minds because it was so sexy and epic?
And his endless bragging about his crew and stylist and producers and and and....? And then he delivers a cardboard, Athena/vaguely Grecian warrior costume in front of a background of what looks like either 70's-era wood panelling or a very tall wooden fence and some potted plants that looked like they were stolen from a dentist's office waiting room.

I mean, in a way I guess you could honestly call it "stunning" lol

Oh hey guys- Olly said in a tweet that he's pleased with how this newest video is coming along! Has he ever said that he wasn't happy with how a video was coming along? Is there any other YouTuber who teases new content every single gd time with commentary about how awesome the video is or how pleased he is with it? Who the hell does that? He even manages to slip in self-praise in the closed captions on every single fucking video he's made this past year or two. I mean, wtf lol.

I had an awesome world history prof in college who used to say "Careful not to break your arm there patting yourself on the back."
Is there literally nobody in this dude's life who likes him enough to gently suggest that that's super weird and narcissistic and also kinda sad?

It's rather telling that Philosophy Tube wants to live in Imperial Russia / 1920s USA / Victorian Britain since all three periods treated the working class like shit and were rather horrible to live in for the average not-rich person. Sorry that’s like totally wrong @PennyAni … like just wrong in every way lol. Antidepressants will address the problem directly at the root cause of someone is having panic attacks, and make them stop happening. Xanax is a bandaid solution, and a horrible one at that - you’re taking them after a panic attack is already starting, it is habit forming, and will make someone have MORE panic attacks as it’s not addressing the source issue and actually stopping them from occurring… and more anxiety if they don’t have access when it’s felt it’s “needed”.

Xanax prescriptions are extremely American. I have never seen someone prescribed Xanax even once working in Canada. Wayward Americans travelling up north and wandering into cdn hospitals are stunningly overprescribed everything under the sun. I have never seen anything like it. Stimulants? Check. Benzos? Check. Painkillers? Check check check. Anything you want? Sure have it whatever.

Honestly stupid chube should just move to the states if he wants doctors to give him literally whatever he wants whenever he wants without question. The problem is, he thinks he deserves his whims for free.

Lol that the article uses both of the worst conceivable ones.

I haven’t read Ada- after enjoying Lolita I picked up the next Nabokov book I saw, (maybe called Laura or soemthing, some other name) and was surprised to find it just had exactly the same plot and maybe the dude was a fr nonce, and just didn’t pursue it.

Is that the character in question another Contra reference? Or is the Nabokov call-back arc related to his #Abuser?

Lord have mercy. Delusion, thy name is Oliver Lennard.
idk why I just had the image of a sketch comedy style scene of two aging, near blind pensioners with stereotypical upper crust British accents misidentifying random things as their child

"AROLD! AROLD COME QUICK! OUR SON IS ON THE FRONT PAGE OF TODAY'S PAPER" "MARGARET THAT'S NOT OUR SON ITS A MAP OF THE UKRAINE" "OH BOLLOCKS" "MARGARET WHATS OUR SON DOIN SLIDING ACROSS THE STREET ON IS BELLY LIKE THAT ES GONNA GET URT" "AROLD ITS NOT OUR SON THATS A DELIVERY TRUCK" "OH BOLLOCKS"

It would be funnier than all the jokes Ol' Lies inserted into his wank videos combined, Michael Caine and Judy Dench should be perfect in those roles.

Yeah, it seems like he stole his whole "love" of Nabokov from Contra:
I put on the Capital Punishment livestream because I don't think anyone here has gone through it yet. At 18:48 Olly mentions that he attempted to record an audiobook version of Ada for Contrapoints but only got 1/3rd of the way through it before Hontra dumped him so he never finished it. I'm fairly certain it was for Contra because Contra's favorite novel is Lolita and also Olly started publicly talking about his love for Ada around the time they started dating.
I think Ada's a great book but I worry Olly has ruined it for me. Maybe try Pale Fire if you want less sexual degeneracy.

In good PT fashion he answers criticism just to tell you a story about how awesome he is - being dragged into protests, making a speech up on the spot and not really doing anything wrong.

All of that but also -! ....due to this highly frustrating and mean-spirited (and ultimately wrong, despite his initial agreement that it was fair) criticism, Choobs has tragically now been forced to turn down most of these kinds of opportunities. :( ....set to the swelling music from the invisible orchestra, made up of the world's tiniest violins, that follows Choob around to add dramatic accompaniment to his every noble misadventure. O, the humanity!

I get that being trans is largely due to social contagion nowadays (well actually, it always has been, but in the good old days it functioned more like an underground cargo cult), but imagine having your 'egg cracked' by Olly.

Agree on Chube. Wrt the part about prescribing meds off-label, I was posting about what is frequently done in the U.S.; not what I thought of it or if I condone it. I mean...I dont think drugs like xanax should ever be handed out like candy lol.

(But I do actually have some more nuanced personal opinions on that topic....)
Wrt anti-depressants being used to treat anxiety.....of course, absolutely that can work. (Doesnt always, but can). Usually doctors where I come from will first try out different SSRIs that have been known to be helpful with anxiety, like Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, Leprexo, Wellbutrin etc. Whether or not they will be helpful for the anxiety depends on the person, the drug, the dosage, etc.

But that's not what I was referring to. I was talking about, like....doctors prescribing old school anti-depressants and anti-psychotics like Elavil or trazadone or haldol to take *as needed* (when those drugs are generally meant to be taken daily) for acute anxiety (when they're generally meant to treat depressive or psychotic disorders) simply because they have a side effect of drowsiness. Drowsiness =/= relief from anxiety for most people with anxiety disorders. For some people they might help with, say, insomnia that's tied into anxiety. But the anti-depressant effect isnt even going to have a chance to work if you're only prescrining those meds to be taken as needed so as to benefit from their side effects instead of taking daily- as directed by the manufacturer- to actually treat depression-related anxiety. Sometimes strong-ass antihistamines are also prescribed for anxiety disorders for the same exact reason. I hated taking them for that because they didnt help ease my anxiety, but just added to it a super fun "prisoner in my own body"/zombified- lobotomized kind of feeling. Trazadone and Haldol had a similar effect. Fuckers.

Anyway, even if you do find relief for GAD from a *newer* SSRI, prescribed as intended to help with serotonin-related anxiety issues, they wont always help with acute panic attacks. So that's where meds like benzos/Xanax or less addictive alternatives like Buspar come in.

Idk anything about benzodiazepines like Xanax in particular being a more American thing, but I wouldnt be surprised. I've known quite a few people who have been prescribed benzos to take, like, at a set dose every single day, sometimes multiple times a day, as a preventative measure against anxiety or anxiety attacks. Which....I hate to slag of anything that a person claims "works for" them, but at the same time there's no way you're gonna escape some kind of dependence on the meds if you take them that way. At the very least you'll develop a tolerance, which of course means decreased relief unless the dosage is steadily increased.

Me, I have generalized anxiety disorder that also includes semi-random, Hell on Earth-style panic attacks. After years of being prescribed every single drug I've mentioned here plus many more, I finally found a sweet spot with a three-pronged treatment approach: Zoloft (sertraline) prescribed at a dose a bit higher than is usually used to treat depression alone; therapy- which helped immensely when I was able to finally afford it; and lastly a benzodiazepine similar to Xanax prescribed at a low dose to be taken prn only for acute panic attacks. I never have been addicted to benzos either psychologically or physically, probably because of the way they're prescribed in my case. If they're handed out like candy to take at the slightest twinge of discomfort, then yeah....you're gonna end up with bigger problems. But panic attacks *are* acute conditions that can benefit greatly from fast-acting prn meds like Xanax. Just like with opioid painkillers, they can be dangerous but they also have their place with certain chronic pain patients.

Fuck. Sorry for the novel lol

Holy shit, Joan is retarded. On top of what's been said, I can't believe she described St. Andrews as 'bougie'. 'Bougie' in itself is the bougie version of the proper word bourgeois as mangled by US nig slang, I've seen it being used to describe anything from trashy new-money idiot behaviour to 'that's classy (sincere)', it signals anything but legitimate wealth and power. As in, people will compliment useless tacky nail art or an expensive handbag as 'bougie'. The bourgeois are legitimately middle class and St. Andrews well above that. I see Joan's taken it to mean posh, then. She is wrong on so many levels that she needs to stop posting. Yes I will take those puzzle pieces, my autism is activated.

Seconding Pale Fire or maybe Pnin (it's short and silly) if you want to give Nabokov another try. I also made the mistake of reading The Enchanter and Laughter in the Dark immediately after finishing Lolita (I'm guessing you read one of those). The rest of his novels are very different from Lolita and are worth giving another try imo. I'd also recommend not jumping into Ada right away, but if you do then here's an annotated version online.
