Sony hate thread

The Switch has tons. Probably the best JRPG lineup since the original DS.
Most seem to be ports. (On a note, a lot of people shit on Super Neptunia RPG purely because of how dire the Switch port is, with absolutely no other considerations - because RPG fans seem to want everything on Nintendo and only go to other platforms if that's not an option for them, for some reason.)

I wonder if part of this is due to the vast majority of the install base with a high retention rate in terms of actually buying more than a few games for it being tranny weeaboos/furfags and soyboys; the only people I've ever seen liking RPGs in my country were the typical 'sweaty autistic nerd' archetype and nobody else, so.

As for the Sony censorship thing, I wonder if that's related to SCEA/SCEE running the PS side of things now. SCEE being based in the UK, the country where the Nintendo magazine literally tried to boycott the release of Senran Kagura a few years back or something, would certainly have advocated for "all cute/moe weebs bad".

PS+ revamp is due out on the 23rd in Asia yet Sony has shown nothing, this is just a really bad marketing fail. They should been drop info every week showcasing a few of the BC games to the run up of it coming out. Sony aren't even trying to build up hype.

PS5, first year I thought was fine mostly due to how MS had nothing for Series in terms of console exclusives while Sony had Ratchet, Returnal and few other games of lesser note, far cry from the PS2 first year but better than PS3 and PS4's first year for sure.

But 2022 is not good at all, everything is crossgen first party wise and stuff like GT7 is an always online game. Outside GoW we have no idea if Sony has any other games planned for the year. I know games get delayed and everything but this smells of just poor management and planning. I have to wonder how many games Sony have in development. Tons of third party devs that Sony could contract to either make games based on Sony's under used IPs or get them to make new Sony owned ips. Hell doing remasters collections for PS3 era games like inFAMOUS, Killzone or Resistance with improved graphics could be a quick and cheaper way to pad out the their barren release schedule but also get those ips on PC at the same time.

Speaking of ports, Sony let the Vita die but outside of Tearaway and Gravity Rush they never tried to port any of their games to PS4. Remasters of games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Soul Sacrifice, and Killzone: Mercenary just made lots of sense to do but they never did.

I get PS5 is going to sell no matter what, but lack of info on anything is just crazy, the fact Spider Man 2 is a game for 2023 is the next know first party next gen game is a joke. Under Jim Ryan Sony's marketing and press department seems incompetent, you can't will games into existed but you can do a good job marketing what you do have. I feel Nintendo line up for the past few years has also been weak (not as weak as Sony's) but they are a master a marketing and making the most out of what they have.

Now seems Sony is going all in on GAAS games, it makes sense to go into that market but making 10 games in that market by 2026 is over kill, 5 games would be too much. Trying to force GAAS stuff into GT7 ruined that game and Destruction AllStars was a huge flop. This money and dev power could be used on making much needed games for Sony that won't be dead in 6 months.

Since we were in the topic of TV ads earlier, for curiosity's sake:

Fuck Sony for the Vita by the way. They released the thing, had about ONE years worth of games made for the fucking thing(with the TWO of the big system sellers being a COD and Resistance shooter made by a fly by night shovelware studio that shut down almost immediately after) and then just left it to rot after that. Never bothered to resolve any of the issues like the shitty memory cards, they just turned it into a glorified PS4 controller.
I do recall dodgy ports like the Jak&Daxter and God of War collections, while the Sly Cooper trilogy was the sole decent 1st-party port. Or the infamous Vita port of Borderlands 2.
And by the time the PS3 was out of the picture in Japan, multiplatform 3D games became even less and less optimized on the Vita so unless you were really into the whole portability thing (eventually the free online + the easy but late piracy), it was generally hard to recommend the Vita version over the PS4 one. Even a few 2D games like the first Risk of Rain or Rabi-Ribi were prone to massive slowdowns on the Sony handheld.

Sony also tried to push the Online Pass with its first-party offerings, to the point you couldn't even have access to the new contents from the free updates on Soul Sacrifice Delta without one.

You guys think sony is gonna keep on trucking after the PS5? I don't have a big enough rainbow to give you.
It's mere speculations so who knows. I don't believe (yet) Playstation is doomed to disappear but it's clearly no longer the same cultural behemoth as it once was.

Largest amount of japanese third-party games since the DS and SNES to be even more blunt, with many franchises and studios that "belonged" more to Playstation in the past. And the number is only going to get much bigger in the future. I do maintain the fact the Switch is more a Playstation system than some people are giving credit for

What's weird is Vita had some Japanese exclusive games that could have sold well, which Sony easily could have stepped in and published in English with translations. Plenty already had English translations completed on other systems, like Catherine and a couple Dragon Quest spinoffs.

Is there even a reason not to publish something like Puyo Puyo Tetris?

Gaijin filth cannot hope to comprehend the delicate nuances of Puyo Puyo. Also a russian invented Tetris but let's pretend it's ours from now on. Here, let's give them Quantum Theory, the gaikokujin will surely appreciate that.

From my understanding, Puyo Puyo never really sold well outside Japan, and the modern entries all have story modes with a decent amount of text and full voice acting. The only localized entry before PPT that wasn’t a reskin based on another IP was Puyo Puyo Fever sometime in 2004-2006 depending on region, and even that only released on Gamecube and DS in the US despite releasing for basically everything else in Japan and/or Europe.
(Fun fact: PPF was also the last first-party Dreamcast game, releasing in 2004, and it included the full localization found in other versions)

Wouldn't the Tetris branding alone basically guarantee sales though? I don't know how popular it is anymore but it sure used to be.

The Tetris branding is probably what convinced them to finally localize it almost half a decade later. There used to be a lot of Japan-only Tetris games, especially on the Super Famicom, but eventually they started bringing everything over.

Microsoft: "DVDs? Yeah, our new Xbox can play them, but we really don't wanna pay licensing fees so you have to buy the remote if you really want them. Also Nintendo and I won't even release our machines until November."
Wait a minute. How did THAT work? Shouldn't the Xbox natively read DVDs with the drive without another peripheral?

Ever notice how this logo is somewhere on the casings of most things that can play DVDs? It's not actually on the original Xbox, but it is on the remote & receiver. Ostensibly, this made it so Microsoft didn't have to pay licensing fees to the DVD Forum on every single Xbox sold, but they did for the remotes.

Hacked Xboxes can play DVDs without the remote just fine. It really was just a weird instance of Microsoft figuring out how to cheap out a little bit.

Apparently Ubisoft had a tight control on the Tetris license with Tetris Ultimate (which came out on Vita, 3DS, Xbox One and PS4 in 2014), but there seemed to be a loophole in the licensing deal that didn't cover the PS4 physical media and the Switch. Hence why Puyo Puyo Tetris finally released in 2017 on western shores.
Word on the street is the lack of digital edition is down to a Tetris Company rule of not having competing versions of the game on the same platform. Tetris Ultimate from Ubisoft is already on the PlayStation Store, so no digital version of Puyo Puyo Tetris for PS4 owners. I've reached out to the Tetris Company and Sega for clarification.
"A downloadable version of Puyo Puyo Tetris is not available for PS4 because The Tetris Company currently has an exclusive license with another partner for PS4 downloads," a spokesperson for the Tetris Company told USgamer.
Coincidentally, a digital PS4 version of Puyo Puyo Tetris was made available shortly after Tetris Ultimate was delisted in early 2019.

Related to that, the reason crummy Bink Video was often seen for cutscenes in games, even into the 360/PS3 era, was because it was a flat fee to license as opposed to a licensing fee paid per disc pressed(sucks to be a very hyped multi-disc game that tanks in that scenario).

Yes and no. There are some ports like the Final Fantasy games. I'm okay with some ports like the NIS Classics releases because they re-release old games that are hard to find and expensive like ZHP or Phantom Brave. Then there's stuff like Saga Frontier which was completely reworked and has added content originally cut from the game. There are a lot of multi-plat games that came later that I wouldn't consider ports like Ys 8/9/Origins or Dragon Quest 11 Super Duper Edition. Then there are Japan/Asia only games which are completely original and have English. I know a fair amount of people that import so it isn't as uncommon as you think. Between Amazon, Play Asia and VGPlus in Canada, it's easier than ever to get games from overseas.

That said, I hope Persona 5 never comes to the Switch because I am completely sick of autists whining about it.

Oh neat, is that available on other platforms?

Same. Joker being added to Smash absolutely fucked the Persona circle IIRC.

Speaking of Ubisoft, Ubisoft+, their subscription service, will be launching first on PS+ on May 25 (NA). But, it'll be called Ubisoft+ Classics and will be part of Sony's PS+ Extra and Premium subscriptions.

So, for $15-17 a month, you get access to Ubisoft games on your PS5 (4?). Let's see if this holds up its value.

It's about time they did something but they still had to fuck it up, Sony did stated "It’s almost here! Our new PlayStation Plus service is launching soon, and we are pleased to share with you an early look at some of the games* that will be included during the launch time frame." but people don't read shit, they just look at the meat which is the game line up so they now think the 9 PS1 games and 1 PSP game will be the only ones at launch.

Also what a weird group of games to list

PlayStation Studios

  • Ape Escape | Japan Studio, Original PlayStation
  • Hot Shots Golf | Japan Studio, Original PlayStation
  • I.Q. Intelligent Qube | Japan Studio, Original PlayStation
  • Jumping Flash! | Japan Studio, Original PlayStation

  • Tekken 2 | Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., Original PlayStation
  • Worms World Party | Team 17, Original PlayStation
  • Worms Armageddon | Team17, Original PlayStation
Off all the games for the PSP to list why Super Stardust Portable? I mean PS4 as it's own better version which I would be shocked if it wasn't on this. Also why list two Worms games?, think they would say hey we have MGS1 or classic RE games pr some more of the bigger hitter 3rd party stuff.

However give Sony this, the the ps4/ps5 line for new games isn't bad and nice if you own PS1 or PSP games digital already you will have them again once for free once they are added to the service.

So like, where are Sly and Ratchet for the PS2 classics? Hell, where is Shadow of the Colossus, the biggest game for that system? Also, I guess no Little Big Planet for PS3 given the server shut down, though it would be nice to have the campaigns and port stuff over to LBP3. No PS All-Stars because Sony is a coward that will never acknowledge that gem.

In saying this, I might be out of the loop and these games were already there. I don't exactly follow PlayStation that much.
