E3 (but not really) 2022

I can't wait until old nostalgia is replaced by new nostalgia.

And it's got undertale music too for that extra bait. It didn't even release until 2015. I guess it's demo was technically out, but seeing this is nostalgia bait for gen alpha mobile gamers, I don't see the cross over.

Then of course you had the Pokémon sterilization that came as a result of backlash against Black & White along with some new hardware issues I presume.
The only reason why people btiched about Black and White is because they couldn't catch Pikachu (or any of their favorite past gen pokemon) until post-game. Black and White was a hard reset. It gave people roughly the same amount of new pokemon to catch like Red/Blue/Yellow (151 in those games, 155 in B&W) and allowed people to actually try out the newer pokemon in which some of them were based off of other pokemon from the past (Jellicent being gen5's Tentacruel for example) and setting the story in MURICA, so it was supposed to do it's own thing outside of the japan regions that the first 4 games were based off of. Black and White also had really cool and beautiful animations for all the pokemon sprites and attacks.

But because of the bitching, it's why we have past gen pandering to the utmost extreme now-a-days. and why every new generation has a short Pokedex. The last games (Sword and Shield) pokemon roster even with the updates and "season pass" is only a little below 100 new pokemon (810 - 905... that also includes the new evolutions from Arceus) and the one before that (Sun & Moon) was even LESS (722 - 809)

I think you're missing the original point.
Honestly, I don’t know what to make of the Prime 4 situation, or who to blame.

Nintendo obviously doesn’t know how to make 3D Metroid, and their one attempt with Team Ninja for Other M was a colossal failure. Retro Studios was the father of the Prime series, so without them it just couldn’t be done. This is basically the Donkey Kong situation all over again, where Nintendo handed the IP off to a different studio, then couldn’t recreate the success when the studio was gone.

Now Nintendo didn’t lose Retro, but Retro obviously wanted to move on from the series, and who could blame them. They made 4 Prime games in a row between GC, Wii, and DS, 5 if you include Pinball. DK was their break and initially more financially viable. Then Other M happened, and fans were pissy about the state of Metroid, so Retro making a second DK game got a lot of bad press, even though the game itself was a 10/10. DKCTF would then get low sales because Wii U and lack of hype. Now Retro has spent the past 8 years shitting itself as management is a wreck and projects could seemingly not get off the ground. The state of Prime 4 is centered around Retro being able to save itself now, as Nintendo tried and failed to find someone capable of recreating what Retro did.

Personally, I think the game will happen, but not for a while as Retro has been taking increasingly longer time to make shit for whatever reason.

One of the few games I actually look forward to. Looks like Dead Space, so I'll gladly take it. Can it be still a fuck-up? Who knows, that's why I avoid preordering stuff.
Some journofags got to see about 30 minutes of gameplay and they said it looked insanely polished but not in a way where it's obvious bullshit choreographed just for the demo. It's surprising since I thought the studio was relatively small but apparently they've got around 200 employees which is nuts since they were only formed a few years ago. Whoever is doing their animations deserves a raise because the head stomp in the trailer had some shit I don't think I've ever seen in a game where the persons head is actually providing pushback against the guys foot as he tries to move his head away and fight the guys foot back. From the talk about the gameplay demo the devs seem really excited about freaking people out with the gore too which is a good sign, they seem passionate. Here's the journofags talking about the gameplay if you can stomach them.

Apparently Acquire Games is doing a stream too. Tommorow June 5 at 7:00AM EST

I'm personally not worried about the polish. I'm just worried it's going to be one of those comparatively short and scripted cinematic experiences that became all too common when people took with them the wrong lessons from Last of Us and decided third person games need to all be 90% narrative

Hearing about "yet another Mario" at this point is dumb anyway, when's the last Microsoft game that wasn't a sequel? That zombie game from four years ago? Sony's a bit better but their games are almost Ubisofting into their own genre at this point.
Isn't Nintendo supposed to be better than the other two "evil" corporations? I remember when the Nintendo fans were coping hard over the forced paid subscription to play online, "well, Sony and MS did it so whatever!".

I hope Schofield has learned a thing or two from his awful "cinematic" CoD WW2.

... that's not exactly a good justification for putting up with a paid subscription. I can't believe those were actual words that came out of people's mouths (actually yes I can, these are the same people that put up with the same mario game from the DS to the WiiU)

Also Nintendo partnered with TenCent. Doesn't exactly make them any "better" than the competition.

Exactly. I'm fine with making 42 Mario games as long as they bring something new to the franchise but not in a Miyamoto way aka "let's make a new gimmicky console and force the devs to make a game with it".

it's not even a console gimmic thing

NSMB DS - Mario has a giga mushroom that makes him plow through everything
NSMB Wii - Same game, except now there's an ice flower
NSMB 3DS - Same game, except now there's a flower that turns shit gold
NSMB WiiU - Same game, except now there's an acorn power-up that is similar to the tanuki leaf
NSMB WiiU Luigi - "Hard Mode" + Speedrunners

Shit on Nintendo for absolutely no reason? We got a Metroid Game this year, we got Star Fox Game last console. The only series he mentioned that has been ignored is F-Zero and why would Nintendo focus on a franchise whose last outing was poorly received and wasn't even ported to America?

We had a Metroid Game come out this year.
That's enough for one decade I guess? t. Nintendo exec

We're in the sad state of affairs where 2D Metroid doesn't count to most people.
It's not a matter of counting, it's a matter that 2D and 3D metroids have different feels and aims. 2D Metroid is fast and twitchy, 3D Metroid is slow and methodical. Both are great, but one does not replace the other

Would Sony "save" E3 by announcing that they're releasing a side scrolling Castlevania exclusive and a remake of the first Jak and Daxter game? Of course not ,because remakes and games with gameplay from 1995 aren't exactly system sellers.

Actually its worse, there is that time Sony "saved" E3 by announcing the crowdfund campaign of Shenmue 3:

Jak is supposedly getting a movie before a new game.

If the rumors are true it's a new timeline and it's supposed to serve as the background lore for the new universe.

>Remake of the first Jax & Daxter
oh sweet summer child

You need to visit the Sony megathread one day. They are releasing the first original game as a digital download and the emulation they are using for it makes it look and perform crappy.
Jak 1 already got a physical release on the PS4, the whole trilogy and Jak X Racing did. They work on PS5.

If you got them all you were sent a promotional copy of Jak 4.

Well Metroid got a new game recently, although is a 2D title, Starfox got that crossover with Starlink but the toy-to-life aspect is a giant turnoff, for F-zero there is Fast RMX at least and that is a Switch only title:
The N64 Cruis'n series also made a comeback recently:
Bayonetta 3 is also around the corner too, so there is at least something to look for on the Switch that isn't "bing-bing wahoo" or JRPGish.

I do agree with the sentiment that the "core" lineup is still very shallow nowadays, but to make the best of the switch you have to dig a bit further and go beyond the average nintendo-tism circlejerks on social medias.
Cruis'N Blast is great. It's not super hardcore but it is a lot of fun.

Fast Racing NEO is fucking awesome and super hardcore.
