This will be a slight bit off-topic but I just wanna muse a bit.

I am saddened that the Democrats have poisoned certain topics beyond recovery. My own pet one is climate and environmental issues.

It should not be a hard case to -conservatives- to -conserve- nature. There were so many avenues of argument that it beggers belief.

Conservation of nature: "We have such lovely natural beauty and splendour, perhaps we should help to maintain it more?"
Independence & Self/Community-Reliance: "Encourage recycling to reduce our reliance on foreign oils and products. Consider community composting and vegetable growing. Carpooling can help tie communities together."
Religion: "Did God not bequeath Earth to man and command him to rule it? And is not a part of rule the act of safeguarding?"

And I can keep going. These issues should in theory by bipartisan as fuck because unlike something like guns, or taxes, or almost anything else "Preserving Nature" has no real hard reason to be a political divide.

But they -made- it a political divide, went balls to the wall nuts on it, made apocolyptic predictions which never come true. and poisoned the very concept of the issue for generations.
I honestly wouldn’t be too worried about it. Maybe in the Midwest it’s different, but in the West, actual conservation is pretty popular among the rural conservative type, not the cargo cult green stuff found in urban areas. People who actually live surrounded by nature don’t want to see their home destroyed. The Captain Planet villain is a projection of people who are fine with strip mining for lithium and covering the hills with solar panels.

What you say matches the Midwest as well but not how you think. Rural people in general are more conservationist, but the cities are where the pollution really occurs. Small, low-level acts could do a lot to drive down emissions and general pollutions if done on a wider scale.... but the impetus is dead.

Presenting Environmental Conservatism and Self Sufficient Homesteading as compatible would have been an incredible political move. Instead they doubled down on the irony of Consumerist Environmentalism where you just need to buy the new cars and the new solar panels and pay taxes to the new wind farms and if you spend enough we can totally fix it. Imagine a world for a moment where they'd promoted the idea of owning a sewing machine and knowing how to patch your favorite but worn down lazy day t-shirt, instead of fast fashion companies presenting an "environmentally conscious" brand image while running coal powered sweatshops to make pizza patterned leggings.

But alas, we live in the consoom hellscape. I wish we lived in the world you wanted to see, my friend.

I think there's ways to find an audience if you can make a clear case why it's actually to Save The Snails and make it clear that it's not some bullshit NGO formed to push the idea that The Snails are found at a particular lot of land up for sale (and not at that other parcel of land who's owners happen to fund Save The Snails)
if you can give a decent amount of accounting and paper trail of "here is how we improved wetlands, here is a stream that was fugly shit and now looks nice, here are less dead turtles" concrete results (obviously lacking in most leftest "eco" efforts) then it's a lot easier to sell

I would be much more supportive of environmental and alternative energy causes if they weren't choosing the worst of all options for every pet cause.

Alternative energies like nuclear for grid and hydrogen for fuel are thrown to the wayside. Solar and wind are not quite as powerful as they should be, but they enrich the *right* people. Electric cars are inherently grid dependent and couldn't be sustainable unless their huge subsidies continue. Their batteries have dogshit shelf lives and they're extremely limited in where they can travel long distances due to charging stations. Hydrogen could be much better (not to mention it's likely possible to convert internal combustion engines in pre-existing vehicles to run on it) but little is being done to pursue it.

Add to that it's a sham because only western countries are being targeted, while China and India rape the shit out of their lands and the entire Pacific, and will never agree to give up their 'prosperity' for environmental concerns.

I would love to be able to be the steward of the earth God has put us on this world to be, but that's just gonna be me on a few acres of untouched woods or prairie.

Under Trump and DeSantis, Florida has banned more offshore drilling and expanded measures for conservation. I wouldn't be too worried about it. People want to keep the land prestine, just not give up their lives and futures to chase a hypothetical doomsday scenario thats always revised to save face. Return to Teddy Roosevelt, the best Roosevelt.

In other news, I saw that Matt Walsh documentary being spammed everywhere through "special means". One of the most disturbing things I've ever seen. It's as if Mendele was promoted throughout modern society as a hero.

"Can a chicken cry? Can a chicken commit suicide?"

People in Seattle are getting ballsy. Biden's approval rating here is worse than most of the blue utopias, but this isn't something you normally see.

Fuck biden AND fuck you for voting him.
In other words, 'I don't care if this "outs" me as a trump supporter.'
Absolutely no fucks given.

Oh well there's your fucking problem right there. You have it set to M for moron. You should have it set to W for winning.
:winner:
Just take it and get outta here, ya stupid dumb animal.

No fucks should be given. I'd buy a car from them, no doubt.

Seattle seems shitty but I feel like if that was in Portland it would be riskier, from what I understand Seattle has more of a problem with everyone being strung out and homeless.
Still though, it just ain't the same city it was in the days of Dr. Frasier Crane

Not to doomer you @Gehanna, but I feel much the same, as I like that my city and has recycling and such. Doesn't make me "better", just that I'm playing a part in trying to prevent the Idiocracy garbage piles.

But the doomer in me knows that for every effort I do, there's some street shitter in India, China, wherever that gives zero fucks about the environment.

Can pat myself on the ass all I want, but reality tells me I make zero difference.

iirc early on DeSantis was facing some pushback from more established GOP over his wetlands conservation

oh yeah, anything you ever do that isn't _as_ bad for the environment as China, India, and some other shitholes like whatever derkaderkastan they make wrestling belts in, but they will shit out more pollution by the time I'm done writing this than you will ever do in your lifetime
but still, "we're keeping cool wilderness where you can shoot wild boars and shit wild so you can shoot wild boars" is some good red meat for GOP base
