Fighting in Korea, spending his whole life working so hard as an engineer but getting jack shit in terms of credit for it, (despite chris's claims, no it's not because of bob we have bottled water) and marrying a harpy like barb when she wore the skin of an angel will take it's toll on a man....And the worst much like bob himself that fateful night was still to come.how does bob already look 90
Its been said that even if the courts don't take any action to keep chris away from 14 branchland or barb Harriet will, but do we have any confirmation she's actually staying with her? most of what's been said about that has been speculation post car crash and a few photos of a seemingly deserted 14 brnachland.

Sorry if this has already been asked (I couldn’t find anything) but does the state being responsible for mentally ill inmates for 30 days still apply if for some reason all charges are dropped against Chris?
2. Requirements for discharge planning for individuals with serious mental illness assessed as requiring behavioral health services upon release from the local correctional facility, which shall include (i) creation of a discharge plan, as soon as practicable after completion of the assessment required pursuant to subdivision 1, and (ii) coordination of services and care with community providers, community supervision agencies, and, as appropriate, the individual's family in accordance with the discharge plan until such time as the individual has begun to receive services in accordance with the discharge plan or for a period of 30 days following release from the local correctional facility, whichever occurs sooner. Discharge plans shall ensure access to the full continuum of care for the individual upon release from the local correctional facility and shall include provisions for (a) linking the individual for whom the discharge plan has been prepared to the community services board in the jurisdiction in which he will reside following release and to other supports and services necessary to meet his service needs and (b) communication of information regarding the individual's treatment needs and exchange of treatment records among service providers;
By that logic if Chris, once released, later ends up in jail overnight would the jail then be responsible for him for the next 30 days?Virginia Code 53.1-68:

The way I read this, they need to find somewhere to dump Chris so that he can get treatment when he's released from the jail regardless of conviction or charges. This law is on the jail itself, not the court. It doesn't mention guilt or innocence, just that the inmate be mentally ill.
Its amazing he looks that old, but almost respectable in a way,, say what you want about Bob and how damaging a parent he was, he did lead an incredibly hard working life, fighting in a brutal war, working hard in a lower blue collar job yet still managing to innovate by apparently designing mechanical tools used to mould plastic, acquired a huge collection of records and had many hobbies. It seems he was far from a 'good' guy, considering how badly he encouraged Chris's delusions and how he may have been difficult with his past failing marriages and political views. But he definitely embodies some stereotypically positive American traits like being a self-starter and being an honest hard working civilian for so much of his live despite coming from what was probably a rather poor and backwards family lineage.A Happy 42nd Anniversary to (the late) Mr. and (the not so late yet) Mrs. Chandler!

True, there is that problem, but it could end rather badly for the ween in question. I'm too lazy to look up Virginia law, but if Chris ends up under a more or less permanent protective order against returning to Barb or 14BLC, that could make the ween an accessory. @Pointless Sperg or @AnOminous likely know the answer. I suspect Greene County would want to make an example of such a ween. They've been treating Chris with kid gloves. Will they be so kind to assholes who really should know better?

It seems like something that could be exploited if it doesn't require someone to actually be charged with anything or if it applies to minor crimes like say someone turns up drunk and disorderly and are kept overnight then the state are required to be responsible for them for the next 30 days.

Since the first couple of violations of a protective order (assuming no other crime or enhancement like firearms or physical assault) are misdemeanors, the weens would be fine.
He didn't actually fight anywhere. He was conscripted after WW2 ended, and finished his tour in Korea before the Korean War started.
I just hope that it doesn’t lead to just letting crazy people go with minor crimes if they’re seen as too much work/resources to follow up with. That's the way I read it. The law seems to be intended to try to break the endless cycle of jail → streets → rinse → repeat for the very minor stupid crimes¹ that happen with mentally ill people. The duration in jail doesn't seem to matter, only the mental capacity of the inmate.
However, it's a new law, so who knows how the Virginia courts are going to interpret it, or how the jails apply it? And how the fuck do they intend to enforce it?
This is, of course, assuming the courts deem Chris to be mentally ill. I'm not sure if "incompetent to stand trial" qualifies or if he needs an official determination.

I came to think of this:
Is there ZERO possiblity that, after Barb dies, Joseph Cole Smithey will claim Barb's mortgage debt on himself in order to do some favor for his half-brother and thereby let Chris keep living in 14 Branchland Court without being homeless?
I heard that Cole, while seeing Chris as a nuisance, still does not have a full-fledged kind of resentment towards Chris, so it makes me wonder about the possibility that Cole will do Chris a surprise favor regarding the house.
He doesn’t have a resentment but he seriously doesn’t seem to give an iota of a fuck about Chris or any of that life. Whatever Barb and Bob did was clearly enough for him to never revisit that side of his life ever again, he literally probably barely even knows about Chris’s infamy or perhaps is even unaware about what befell Barb. He’s moved on and will probably not even mention that side of his life ever again. I don’t blame him honestly if he doesn’t want to do a favour for his insane pervert anchor of a half-brother.I came to think of this:

If there's any equity in the house, I could see Cole not only not helping Chris, but if Chris is squatting there, just forcing a partition sale just to make him homeless.I came to think of this:

According to Cole, who is a man entirely comprised of pure bullshit.Barb nearly shot Cole to death when he was a child.
