Klonoa 1 in this package is like some horrid marriage between the original PS1 game and the Wii remake. You could almost call it completely lazy in design, but it clearly took some effort to combine both versions of the game into a brand new remake of the game and make every facet of it almost as jank as possible.Pretty disappointed with how Door to Phantomile's been handled in this remake. There's a ton of audio hiccups and even performance issues on most PCs and consoles. My autism goes full boar with the cutscenes though, where some look alright and others look worse than how they did on the Wii. In fact the ending shows that they had the Moon Kingdom part properly redone and yet it's lame as hell in the actual cutscene.
Lunatea's Veil was far more well put together and besides some similar audio problems, it has me wondering if this was originally intended to just be a Klonoa 2 remake. The first game feels horribly rushed and un-optimized. Here's hoping some Unity whizzes manage to fix these problems with mods.
Is it still worth getting for the switch? I have Klonoa on the Wii, but I don't have Klonoa 2.Pretty disappointed with how Door to Phantomile's been handled in this remake. It's still very much worth getting despite its flaws. The games both play well (on Switch they run pretty okay as far as I know), it's just the visual presentation that flops. You're also saving hundreds of dollars by getting these remakes rather than the originals on ebay.Is it still worth getting for the switch? I have Klonoa on the Wii, but I don't have Klonoa 2.
I think it's a bit hit and miss in spots. The screenshot comparison you posted is one such case where it's a big miss, but I've played roughly halfway through the game (after getting all four Elements and just before the world goes to shit) and they've at least made SOME effort to keep facial animations somewhat consistent with the original. I still don't know what the fuck went wrong in that one specific scene you posted though.Graphics and presentation look great for the most part. (I'll get to that)
Facial expressions seem to look worse than they did in the original. Lolo is supposed to be smiling in this cutscene, but for whatever reason isn't doing that here. And I can't help but feel her eyes are just a tad bit off. Maybe I'm just nostalgic for the old look, who knows?
Klonoa 1 does the same thing and I think they just decided to keep it faithful to the original while also adding a touch of "QoL". A bit redundant, but I don't mind it one bit.Why are there TWO indicators for how many doll pieces you collect on the UI? That doesn't seem necessary.
I can see why they included it with Klonoa 1... Sort of. But I don't know why it's a feature for Klonoa 2 and I can't imagine hardly anyone ever using it outside of maybe just trying it for the novelty of it.The pixel shader makes the game look pretty bad. Wouldn't recommend.
Shit, you're right. I had a feeling something was off about that. For whatever reason, Leorina and Tat are no longer silhouetted during the intro. Why do so many of these remakes remove details like that? I remember they did the same thing with the final fight in Ocarina of Time's 3DS remake.
That is fucking JARRING. How do you fuck up the graphics of a "remake" to where the original game looks superior in every way?
I've played both the original and the Wii remake on emulator. It's a fairly easy platformer, especially the remake since they increased the amount of health you have and increased the range of your grab attack.I think I might get into this game, it looks kind of cute. Is it hard to play?
The bulk of both games have some pretty easy platforming. It's only ever during the last levels that the difficulty spikes a bit.I think I might get into this game, it looks kind of cute. Is it hard to play?
Pretty easy games overall. Although there are optional challenge levels at the end of both and you get little extras for getting 100%. Very tough to do in 2 though as unlike in 1, where getting 150 dreamstones in every level generally isn't too difficult due to how many there are, 2 requires you not to miss a single one, which can be annoying due to the longer levels. But you don't really need to do any of that to enjoy the games.I think I might get into this game, it looks kind of cute. Is it hard to play?
Just as a note, you don't have to collect 150 dream stones to unlock the challenge levels in either game. All you have to do in both games is just "rescue" every resident/collect every Momett Doll bell.Pretty easy games overall. Finished Klonoa 2. My thoughts on the remake.
I would say wait for an update or modders to fix these issues before purchasing right now. As of now, it is FAR from the definitive version of the game.As I said previously, the face animations are clearly fucked up in a lot of areas. The King of Sorrow is a pretty big example of this sort of thing. His face remains static for his entire screen time when in the original he's supposed to have a more pained look after you beat him.

For whatever reason, Klonoa doesn't shed a tear as he's leaving either, which I'd figure if anything you would at least get THAT right.
I will say though, I do appreciate actually having Popka in the ending in a way that makes sense. Him pretending to be asleep only for him to watch as Klonoa leaves rather than disappearing for some reason during the ending was a great touch and probably the one thing I can say was a general improvement to the game as a whole.
There are also other issues, the music cues during some of the cutscenes don't work properly, so instead of there being moments where the music stops to emphasize a certain part of the scene (Like how Leorina gets an element by herself) the music continues to play. Don't know what they were thinking there.
The script also got changed in random places leading to moments where characters essentially repeat what they just said or saying some really awkward lines.

I booted up Klonoa 1 not long after and I have to say, I've forgotten how much lighter Klonoa feels in the first game.
So far, I'm sort of mixed. They clearly just ported the Wii version and changed up some assets and character designs so that they're more in line with the PS1 version. At the same time, they used the PS1's audio clips for the cutscenes which makes going back into gameplay kinda jarring as they're clearly using different audio.
I love these games and I agree entirely. After much deliberation, I've decided that the Klonoa fanbase qualifies for exterminatus.
