Sony hate thread

I heard the reason they got rid of the PS2 backwards compatibility in the PS3 was that those early models were super prone to overheating and cooking themselves to death. Still, they should’ve figured out how to improve the cooling system instead of stripping the feature out though.
It also didn’t help that MIPS was done for since SGI was going under. Why keep a production line for obsolete processors active when you have an already expensive console? You have to save costs somehow.

Sony should of hired a software firm to get Cell to emulate MIPS like Microsoft figured out with the 360’s PowerPC and the original Xbox’s Celeron.

Yeah, I missed out on getting a Memory Card 1019 too, though admittedly, I never looked very hard for Gamecube stuff. It had a reputation for being kind of a lame console, which I'm sure sounds staggeringly crazy to zoomers who grew up with it, but I bought mine on launch, and I don't think I actually played anything on it within the entire years of 2003 and 2004. By '05, I tried giving it another chance and picked up Metroid Prime, only to be completely perplexed as to why anyone liked it. To this day, I never made it past the second level, and I think of it as the worst FPS I've ever played. I've been told not to compare it to other FPSes, and that it's really more story-driven and about exploration, but all I saw was a really awful game that didn't hold a candle to Half Life 2. To this day, I still don't know if it's actually a good game and I was just not into it at the time, or if it really actually is bad, and the fans are just Nintendo simps that'll bend over backwards to insist anything by Nintendo is good.

I should also mention I've never actually enjoyed a Metroid game, and I've given a fair shot to a few of them. I even gave Super Metroid a half hour and just didn't care. 2D Metroid to me always just felt like boring Mega Man.
I agree with you about 2D Metroid but the GC had some solid games on it.

I still have my GameCube, although it's my second one. The first one was a 2nd gen machine, but I sold that at a garage sale to buy a 1st gen machine. The reason being that the 1st gen had an extra port in the back for a specific wire that allowed for Component hook-up (red, green, blue) rather than Composite (red, white, yellow).

For anyone that doesn't know, Component cables were the last analog cables created before HDMI became the standard and made everything digital. Since the video signals are seperated by 3 wires rather than stuck on one wire like the yellow composite cable, it ofers better picture quality (HD progressive scanning up to 1080). The reason why Nintendo nixed this idea (at least from what I read) was because back then there weren't too many CRT-TV's, or even HD TVs that had this input (and surprisingly to this day they STILL don't have this kind of input, it's only HDMI and Composite for majority of cases), so they released the 2nd gen GameCube without that port for cheaper.

But Bloodborne still doesn't even have a PS4 pro update. Seriously, why does Sony despise this game so much?
Cuz it was made by those icky, non-woke Japanese! You really ought to be playing The Last of Us: Super-Deluxe-PS5-Golden Edition and Horizon: Forbidden Enjoyment instead!

At that point, you might as well get a Wii with its much cheaper component cable. Aside from Game Boy Player support, a Wii can do literally everything a Gamecube can, and just as well (even without the GBP, it can still emulate GBA). Even the broadband adapter’s functionality works through the Wii’s built-in wireless.
Also I would hope no one here is so much of a zoomer that they don’t know what component cables are.

Strong rumors about Returnal coming to PC, apparently this game is listed in the Steam database or something like that.

We cant have chad games like Bloodborne on PS5. That would make sony fans become based and conservative. Bring on the soy, Last of Us 3 and Horizon 3 coming to PS5 in 2024. (Also coming to PC in 2025)

Horizon: Zero Dawn remaster announced for 2023, Sony fans on Reddit suddenly pretending like the original game is completely unplayable by modern standards, despite being from 2017. $70, no DLC included, not free nor discounted via PlayStation Plus. Marissa Moira spergs out for another 150 pages insisting Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will outsell Breath of the Wild 2.

I completely understand why a lot of people would look at the Gamecube and think of it as a lame console, just look at the damn thing! It is a goofy looking cube with a carrying handle. It did not help either that Nintendo being Nintendo chose as storage media those silly mini-DVDs that held less data than a regular DVD ( 1.46 GB vs 4.7 GB ) all because of "Muh Piracy!"

Regardless, I should consider myself lucky that I got it plus a bunch of games for it at the right time. I managed to pickup mine around the tail end of its lifespan ( around 2007-08-ish ) The Gamecube was not popular on my neck of the woods so by then there was not much demand for he console or its games which were easy to pick up on clearance sales, second hand stores and ebay as well.

Regarding Metroid Prime I'm of a completely different opinion, it is among one of of the best games I've ever played. When I first heard that it was going to be a 3D game played on a first person view and on top of it was being developed by an unknown American studio with no prior games under its belt I thought Nintendo had lost their minds. When I finally got it and started playing I discovered one of the most refined gaming experiences I've ever gotten my hands on. One of the biggest concerns with the game was how the platforming in first person was supposed to work? Past experiences with other games that attempted it were terrible. But somehow Retro Studios fine tuned the levels and platform layout in such a way that it made jumping and navigation throughout a seamless and intuitive experience.

The game is by all intents and purposes Super Metroid redone in 3D. The game is an action adventure rather that an FPS because indeed exploration is the main focus, the "shooter" part is mostly automated using a lock-on system. combat relies on prioritizing targets and switching to the correct weapons and power-ups depending on the different situations and boss encounters rather than pure aiming. Thank goodness Retro recognized that implementing this as the core of the combat mechanics was the right move because trying to use the Gamecube controller to play with a traditional FPS layout is a nightmare ( using the c-stick for aiming fucking sucks! I played "Geist" and the awfulness of that experience still lingers ).

Half-Life 2 is a outstanding game on its own right but it should not be compared to Metroid Prime because mechanically and design philosophy wise are very different beasts.

It is a shame you haven't been able to enjoy Metroid at all, to each its own I guess, for me it is my favorite Nintendo franchise, Metroid Fusion alone made the purchase of the GBA Player worth it.

EDIT:

Additional irony, Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster lifts mechanics directly from BotW and introduce them as "innovative" improvements.

Sony licensed MIPS so they could have anyone manufacture it, they weren't beholden to anyone like Xbox with Intel and Nvidia or Sony with Nvidia or Nintendo right now with Nvidia.

I didn't know Gamecube memory cards were special, few years ago you could pick up used 1019s and new 251s for pretty cheap, hell even today i keep tripping over used 251s. There are some definitive versions of games on it(Viewtiful Joe, Killer 7, RE 4, Enter the Matrix is somehow the least broken version) and certain games like Sonic Heroes are still better than PS2, but you really have to like Nintendo games to get much use out of it. I.E what they tell you about Prime is correct, Metroid Prime at it's core is a somewhat autistic game about exploring shit, scanning for enemies and lore, solving puzzles, etc. If you just want an FPS gallery shooter your options are limited on the cube. You've got, like, Medal of Honor, Geist, CoD 1/2, Second Sight and Star Fox Assault, not all that appealing when you consider xbox had the heavy hitters like Halo, Doom 3 and Half Life 2.

251s were the only thing made for a little while after Wii became huge, which is how I missed out on cheap 1019s. Though I never did fill up my 251, most Gamecube saves weren't enormous. NOBODY BRING UP ANIMAL CROSSING

Just another daily reminder that Sony fucking sucks and bows to dictators.
