Archie Battersbee's death is not a suicide. It might had he not been revived, but he was and an output from his heart was obtained. I already said that HHJ Arbuthnot made the same mistake and the Court of Appeal reversed that. I already said that his date of death will be when the life support is withdrawn. The cause of death will be as a result of a catastrophic hypoxic brain injury. There will be no coroner's inquest. There will be no verdict. There will be no mention of the word suicide.

With respect, if you disagree, please look up the law on coroner's inquests and the leading textbooks and show me what grounds there are at law that require an inquest in this case.

If there is an unexpected death, the doctors cannot legally sign a death certificate as the whole role of referring to the Coroner is for THEM to decide the cause of death.
And as others have pointed out, this process is VERY different to the US - a specialist Forensic Pathologist (Doctor) will undertake the examination and document findings, and it will be reviewed by the Coroner's Court (Legal). It's not just Some Dude who got elected (see this video from This Week Tonight that explains yet another reason the US is so fucking mental).

The Forensic Pathologists will likely only do an external examination of Archie's body as he's had multiple scans done they can refer to, but he will still very much be referred to the them as a legal requirement.

After the June hearing where the Justice declared him officially dead as of 31 May, the hospital said they wouldn't do anything until the family had decided to appeal (despite probably not having to legally do so, maybe?).

I dare say they'll give her a little bit of leeway but it must be so tense in that PICU.

Even if they felt there was no need for an inquest, there will be. Regardless of the fact he was revived, his death would still come under "misadventure" and would need a formal inquest. Need I remind you of the gentleman who died 22 years after Hillsborough whose death was also termed "death by misadventure "? As the cause of his and ABs deaths were not natural and were caused by accidents.

It also sets a precedent for future cases with extended periods on life support following a possible suicide attempt under the age of 18, specifically if there is a chance of a pattern due to internet behaviours.

In ABs case, itll go on not only the condition of the body ante and post mortem, but also the specifc timeline leading up to it, before and during hospital care to see if there are any changes that need to be introduced by the originating NHS trust.

Also, if Hollie lies about the timeline to the coroner, she is megafucked. Especially as there is video evidence of her constantly changing stories.

It's also a good practice to use for anyone started on steroids (which he is - he wouldn't actually be triggering his own cortisol cos brain dead), and for anyone not eating.

In ICU it's part of an acronym FASTHUG which is a quick daily checklist to make sure you're doing (or considering) the important stuff for your patient:

Before Hollie had her own thread, I posted in the Tard Baby thread about an inquest that had happened recently in Essex for another 12 year old boy. He’s been hit by a car by a mentally ill man who had spoken about wanting to kill people with his car. There was no question as to how to boy died (he was hit by a fucking car) but the inquest looked into the whys and hows and how badly the authorities fucked up, letting a schizophrenic man with clear plans to kill remain on the streets.

That’s why Archie will have an inquest. So many unanswered questions about how he met his death.

I would have thought it was standard with patients with tubes down their throats to help prevent acid build up and reflux. The way the emphasised the last two as if they’re mediocre drugs that get given to all bed-ridden patients though is in my eyes baffling. Considering one is because his gastrointestinal system is struggling it’s ass off and the other is used to stop his blood congealing and caused clots or a heart attack. Woman has lost it
