Steven Universe - Now a Griefing Thread

Nice to know Cartoon Network cares about their show so much they'll put the climax of an episode on YouTube even before a premiere date is announced.
Well, we've already established they'd rather air a bunch of episodes back to back between months of nothing instead of air it weekly like a regular tv schedule.

That's not an official SU channel though. So I think they're just posting leaks.

My bad.

I get the feeling that if they could, CN would do that to every show they have on their line up. Including the Adult Swim and Toonami blocks.

Either way, the waiting game sucks.

I really wish Cartoon Network would just let the show air normally and not hold onto episode to release in blocks like this.
I really wish CN would just rethink how they schedule all their shows, to be frank.

And even I, as a non-fan of this show can agree that this scheduling is a load of crap. At this point, what kid even remembers that this show exists?

That's nothing compared to the year-long hiatus Gravity Falls had. SU would be forgotten if it wasn't they fact that they still rerun it like every other show.

You are a fucking sped. If banning you wouldn't trigger an autistic backlash it'd be justifiable at this point. Stop shitting up legitimate threads with your lazy, passive-aggressive shitposting. You've been in these threads for half a fucking year.

Easy there, don't shoot the messenger.

There's a fan theory that the show's staff are leaking the episodes are a message to Cartoon Network. I think this might be true, because whoever is leaking the episodes would have to half insider access.
I... I think I can get behind that fan theory. If only because of how CN's treating the show's release schedule (i.e. like shit) at the moment.

If people want to binge watch they will. I don't get why they are trying to force people to do that when only a few people actually want to do that. If I even wanted to watch this show, this Steven Bomb shit would be a minus.

I guess when your show has no actual fans who are children in the age range it's supposedly for, and the entire fan base is obsessed autists on tumblr, you can get away with treating them like shit.

And even then, if one were to sit though an entire marathon, it'd probably top out at, at most, only a day's worth of episodes or thereabouts (We're dealing with 11-minute episodes at roughly a total count, as of late, of 78 episodes). Even less if they just want to catch themselves up with the more important episodes.

By doing the "Steven Bombs", while CN is burning through the episodes on a regular basis (which is good for me, which means I can forget the show exists much quicker). Yet at the same time, depriving the fans of what they want for extended periods of time, makes them feel cheated. And I personally, don't want to incur the wrath of a pissed of SJW as much as anyone else.

'Sides, this ain't the only show CN's fucked over, and probably not the last either.

I have pretty mixed feelings about this show.

On one hand, it can be very well-done when it wants to be. I like to watch the actual story-driven episodes because the overall conflict actually is an interesting one, in my opinion. I think it'd be better if action and story development were the rule, rather than the exception. I've watched it and genuinely felt excited when shit like Jasper and Peridot coming to Earth, or Yellow Diamond showing up happened. I'm also interested in seeing what happens when Malachite shows up again. The episode seems to have been leaked, but I haven't watched it. I'll just wait for the TV airing.

On the other hand, the excessive filler and stupid LGBT pandering kind of hurt it for me. I've said before that the awful Tumblr fanbase keeps me from legitimately considering myself a fan of the show. The filler episodes can sometimes be entertaining, but overall I've just watched them and thought "okay, why do we need to see this?" The filler-to-relevant episode ratio is balanced pretty squarely in "filler's" favor, and it makes the show seem almost lazy. Like, they've got a deadline to meet but don't really feel like putting effort into writing shit to move the plot forward, so they just bang out some generic story featuring Steven and whatever townsperson he decides to pester on that particular day. In a way, it actually comes across as a waste of effort; the time, money, and resources spent on these pointless episodes could've been much better spent on episodes that actually advance the plot and develop the characters.

Though, my perception may be tainted by the fact that Cartoon Network is really shitty about airing new episodes. Fans have to wait so long, and then when they finally come out, it's mostly filler and maybe one or two good episodes? Fuck that shit. I think it'd do be

Honestly the best way to enjoy the show is to completely detach it from the death grip that tumblr has on it.

As for the filler, yeah, some of it's ass, but I really do like it when we get to see other members of Beach City interact with Steven as a reminder that there're more characters than him in the show. I also just take solace in the fact that Steven doesn't go to school because then shit would get really cliche, like the tried and true trope of the main character trying to hide his powers from his classmates or having to deal with school pressures, etc.

I agree with the filler episodes, especially now that the actual story is supposed to be moving along and people know Steven's not ever actually going to ask questions (who were Pink Diamond and White Diamond? Why and how is this lion obviously somehow related to me and my mom?), and then we have to waste some episodes on the townspeople and a lot of characters that have nothing to do with anything else besides filler (Lars, the pizza family, Sadie). The first season was really, really hard for me to get through, I forgot all about it and then a friend who watches the show just told me which episodes to skip and which to watch to see how it opens up to season 2 and the homeworld story. That made it much more watchable.

However, I also really do like some of the filler episodes when they seem like they were done for fun and not just forcing us to wait until they bother focusing on the story again. There are some side characters I don't have a problem with as long as I get some laughs out of the episode (I can get through a Sadie episode, but I'm skipping it if it has to do with Onion or Lars). For me, I can't stay entertained with a lot of the filler so it just doesn't work for me, but when it does I don't mind, although it is frustrating that people have to wait so long for ten-minute episodes and just get a bunch of pointless episodes after a huge cliffhanger or something.

I still think it's pretty cheesy that a series that can prove it has really nice pacing and plot also has to have you skip a lot of it if you don't want to deal with pointless side characters. No one that I know thoroughly enjoyed the aimlessness of the first season until the homeworld plot began and I don't want any new seasons to go back to that.

I also just take solace in the fact that Steven doesn't go to school because then shit would get really cliche, like the tried and true trope of the main character trying to hide his powers from his classmates or having to deal with school pressures, etc.

I definitely agree with this. Not having Steven be that kid who has to choose between saving the world and "oh no, homework!" is a relief
